View Full Version : I'm Number #2
RX-Nut 07-12-2003, 02:30 AM Just got my baby today at 6:30pm Hawaii Time.. According to the dealer's first sold on the island.
Sorry, I dont have pics at the moment as it's dark out.. If you can think of something else I can prove my worth, I'll try to produce..
I'm gonna see if my digicam works, it's been acting up.. But I wont be in the pic as my wife is already sleeping and no one is around to help me shoot it...
http://rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6416
Its a small world out there when the internet is involved. Congrats on receiving your car and be sure to get that camera working because I need something to get me by before my car comes in a couple of days.
moogle 07-12-2003, 02:52 AM Sorry buddy... subjective statements are hard to believe. U mentioned it's dark, digicam acting up, and wife is a sleep... mmm OK. Well we'll see in a few days when ur camera is ready and your wife is a awake.
RX-Nut 07-12-2003, 02:58 AM ooh.. hurtful.. however, I understand..
Best I can do right now is a scan of the owner's manual..
I'm sure 3Rotor can vouch this is how it looks..

Bammmm! Now that's a friggin' comeback.
Nice!
Way to go...congrats on your car..I know you were worried for a while, being an islander and all.
BTW couldn't help but smirk at you calling yourself a #2...:)
Couple dozen laps around the island should get you to 600 mile zone!
RX-Nut 07-12-2003, 03:34 AM Thanks.. I promise to show good pics early tomorrow when there's light.
All I can say it's damn fine.. and I am surely not disappointed. I havent really punched it, as I'm trying to go slowly.. But you can feel the teeth alright.. this kitten wants to shred.
Only 30 miles so far, but I'm gonna try to rack up 600 by the end of the weekend.. The manual actually says "No Special Break In is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 1000km (600 miles) may add to the performance, economy, and life of your Mazda." Go figure..
It's funny.. that particular part and page of the manual looks redone.. looks like Mazda glued a new piece of text over the old. Can't really see what was underneath it..
Look out true believers .. I smell like a number 2... stinky.

As the kids say: OWNED
Schneegz 07-12-2003, 05:59 AM Whatever happened to that one kid who claimed he had received an RX-8 months before anyone in the US because his uncle "owns a dealership" and "has connections" with Mazda? It's too bad he's not around. I'd like to make fun of him some more :D
Congrats to the first two owners Stateside. Lucky bastards!

Apparently your government sold him a pre-owned alien spacecraft (circa 1950's) and he's currently on a tour of the outer planets. Hopefully he'll post soon.

Just what I needed to read 1st thing this morning.
Congrats RX-Nut, glad to hear it all worked out for you in the end. I know you were sweating bullets that the dealer was going to jack the price up on you once it came in.
MaRX8 07-12-2003, 08:38 AM So did you have to pay dealer mark up? You said that the Hawaiian dealers where kind of bad at that? I'm just curious because you had been complaining about it for quite awhile.

After all that crap you went through to get the car, you of all people, deserve it. Congrats, and we can't wait to see pictures!
akrx8 07-12-2003, 09:51 AM awsome nut,im curious what you think of that bose system?
QuantumTheory08 07-12-2003, 10:20 AM Yeah, I was on another thread just on this topic.
The noise cancelling system, if I understand correctly, is to remove the "car noise" from the "music sound noise". The system "knows" what the music is suppose to sound like. When the stereo is on, THEN the noise reduction system is activated to eliminate any other "car noise".
I read about this system several months ago. Bose has sold special "noise cancelling" headsets for small aircraft for years.
I was just curious as to how it all "sounded" in the new car.
Boozehound 07-12-2003, 10:32 AM Bose also sells a consumer version of the noise cancelling headsets (~$300). I tried them out a few months ago and they worked quite well (good for droning mechanical noises), but in the end they weren't much better, if better at all than the ~$150 Panasonic headsets I tried later.
But as this all pertains to cars... has Bose (or anyone else for that fact) used the technology in any other cars yet?

Looking forward to the pics. Dealer says mine is in Michigan to get accessories. Actually had to rent a car today until it gets here. My 240 SX (sorry, it was a Nissan) sold in 1 day on the web.
Mine's Titanium as well so I want to see your pictures.

ehH??? come back??? You can take one of those owners manual in any dealer. You just ask for one; they already have the manuals but the car they don't have one.

no the dealers do not have owners manuals. the manuals always come with the car only. it is a packet that comes with the car that has all the warranty info as well as the owners manual. so having the owners manual is a good reference that he has the car. unless he downloaded the picture from another web page or something......

haha..Al Capowned again. Anyway, I am sure rx-nut has better things to do than make stuff up on the internet. I would understand calling bs on him if we were on another forum which was infested with 16yr olds, but here "most" everyone is on the up and up, so cut the guy a break.
ibfubar2000 07-12-2003, 01:36 PM yeah who here would be childish enough to say they have their rx8 already or that they saw a truck load of them at their dealer or...uh wait..n/m :D

MrWigggles 07-12-2003, 01:48 PM "Du', I think you're lying, man. That's probably someone else's car."
Seriously, great to see you next to your wheels. Waiting for daylight to take pictures was a good idea.
Did you wind up getting it for MSRP or did your dealer still give you a hard time?
Hang loose.

There's a lot of people wondering about proper break in...

Congrats! I seem to remember one of my posts on another thread, how I thought it would be fair for you to get you car before all the rest of us. Well, except for 3ROTOR, you did just that. After all the BS you went throught with your pre-order experience and the dealership, you DESERVE it buddy! :D
Have fun with your new ride!
Gamera 07-12-2003, 04:25 PM Nice color! :D
Glad you worked everything out with the dealer. Great pics, thanks for sharing, and enjoy the new ride!
QuantumTheory08 07-12-2003, 05:10 PM I tell ya,....these new owners

....Will any of us really know what it is like???
Nuts - Congrats!
Please write back to: www.rx8forum.com
Pretty Please.

RX-Hachi 07-12-2003, 05:51 PM Congrats man! I hope you are enjoying your ride and not reading this board. But when you do, let us other Hawaii guys know if you got it for close to MSRP, or ended up paying a dealer mark up.
BTW, JSG claimed the number 2 spot first. Out of the forum members, I believe you're number 5. But hey, I'm just jealous;)
halfon 07-12-2003, 06:22 PM Can you show us the interior of the car ?
Thanks
javahut 07-12-2003, 06:48 PM Car looks great! Congrats!
Can you tell us how that front license plate holder is attached? Do they have a bracket mount specifically for that, or did they just go through that sheet of plastic in the false grille? Would it be easy to take it off?
I really want to see how long I can go without a front plate here in Texas without getting stopped. If I do end up having to use it, I want to try to modify it so that it hangs a bit below the front grille... I think that might look better than having it inside the front grille.
Hopefully, I might have my car before you can reply, and I can find out for myself!:)
I haven't used a front plate since I came to texas in 95 and have never been cited for it. Even when pulled over for speeding tickets. I can't stand front plates and have requested my dealer leave mine off entirely for my RX-8 (we're not sure yet if he can legally do that). I definitely don't want drill holes :(
nostatic 07-12-2003, 09:27 PM You know, this car seems to sit very high compared to other sporty cars out there. Like, really high. I thought maybe it was just the magazine shots but there is clearly a pretty serious gap between the tires and fender. I'm not trying to derail this thread, but those pictures of Nut's car made the gap noticeable to me.
Wolverine 07-12-2003, 09:36 PM Congratulations RX-Nut! Keep us updated on hows it going with the car!
ExquisikRenesis 07-12-2003, 09:38 PM Congratz RX-Nut!!! Hope you enjoy it wisely.
The car look nice...i mean really nice...but the only problem is that the sidemarker is orange?! Man! if only they have those clear sidemarker in stock. Otherwise the car is really nice.
BTW Rx-nut, is your car gunmetal or silver?

Yup, it's just bolted on.. Easy to remove. In fact when the car first showed up PDI wasnt even done and there wasny even the plate holder on it..

Yea was out all day. racked up about 200 miles. I ended up paying a markup.. Pretty much inevitable. I pushed hard for MSRP, but they wouldnt budge. And with the "line" behind me, wanting the car, they wouldnt have cared if I walked. I was about to, but they were willing to neg. BTW, their sticker price was $39K. But I didnt pay that. whew. I dont wanna say what I paid cuz I know I'd get flamed.. but I did pay some markup. Hot car, had to be done. I saved up extra to prepare for that.. :(
You're right JSG is actually #2... My bad JSG..
I shoulda said #2 USA forum member.. DOH!
STi-Nut 07-12-2003, 11:36 PM Hey guys, remember me... hehe... I was the one who was there all the way when rx-nut was getting shafted by dealers. I gotta admit that the RX-8 looks a lot better in person than in the pics. Also, the interior is pretty spacious, belying the outer dimensions of the car. I have to admit though, myself and rx-nut are about the same size and with both of us in it, I wouldn't recommend anybody sit in the back seat; unless they want to cut off circulation in their legs. Ride is smooth for a sports car and the quality of sound is pretty good (crisp highs and tight bass). To all you dudes out there who are about to get one, I am envious. It looks to be a well engineered, and constructed vehicle. It looks to be an excellent choice. Who knows, I may decide to get myself one... if they ever decide to offer the blue used in the x-men movie:cool:

Youre right.. the car looks to be a bit taller than normal. It's ass looks to be up in the air. But it's all part of that wedge deal they were going after...

mantisflie 07-13-2003, 04:19 PM Congrats Nut. That's a nice looking ride. I'm starting to fret over my Sunlight after seeing your Titty. That was the color I wanted, but it looked darker in the pamphlet and so I got scared and went lighter. Oh well. Have fun!!:D
Renesis08 07-13-2003, 04:52 PM Congrats man. Nice choice of color. You are officially the Big Kahuna :D on the Island now.
Ren-gen 07-13-2003, 07:08 PM I bet the RX8's springs will settle with time and the car will lower a tad (probably a 1/8-1/4 inch). I would get a precision alignment after about 10,000miles.
Looks great though!!!
