So I've been searching the dealers around me today to see what RX-8s they have coming in. I know what options I want, but i'm a little confused as to how i can tell if any of the dealers have a car that matches or if any of those cars are spoken for already. So here are my questions:

1 - How can i find out which of those cars are spoken for? Ask the dealer?

2 - How can i tell what options have been installed? Usually all i see is the GT package and NAV. I want a moonroof for one...and I would guess that has to be ordered from start. or am i wrong?

3 - If i do find one not allocated to someone, how can i find out when it is coming? Are the VIN #s actually in order of when they will be delivered? Like is 0675 going to get here before 5789? Or how can i tell what allocation the VIN is in?

4 - What can I add to a car I find in this way? Can i add things like the appearance package? I know i can add pretty much anything in the Accessories Pamphlet, but what else can I add? (I guess what is port installed only?)

Just for more info if anyone really wants to help out: I'm in Denver and want a yellow GT with moonroof, appreance package, black leather, rotary accent package, and other stuff out of the accessories.

1. yes only the dealer knows what is spoken for<p>
2. the moonroof is on all gt packages, can not get a gt without a moonroof<P>
3.no way of telling when the car is getting there unless you have the dealer run the vin history they can tell you where it is and how long until it is at the dealer approx.<p>
4. you can add evrything you mention at the port so as long as the vin says new or in transit.

Thanks for the fast reply! So would you recommend that I call the dealer and ask? Or do they not like people inquiring on VINs? Also, there is a dealer that has 2 yellow GTs on their list. Here are the VINs:

One has the NAV and the other doesn't it looks like. I don't really want the NAV, but I'd consider it if i could get one...:)

However, I HATE this dealer and really do not want to give them my money. Do you think it is possible for another dealer to trade them for one of them? The dealer I want to trade with only has 1 RX-8 coming from searching their invintory. Seems a little weird, but they are brand new.

What would you all suggest I do now?

call another dealer and see if they will dealer trade. most will but being a new car model they may not at this time until the dealers get more of them. but call to see.

Perhaps in the US.

In Canada most (all?) of the cars on the first batch are GTs, and none have the moonroof or Nav package.

The brochure up here shows precisely two options for the GT: Moonroof and Nav package.
Personally I am VERY happy about this as it allowed me to jump the queue.
A fellow with a preorder on a car at my dealership wanted the moon roof, and when told his car did not have it, decided to wait.
I then got to pick up that one.
