That motor is a lot heavier than the ECOTEC 4 banger, and will make the Solstice/Sky nose heavy. Would probably be great for smoking Mustangs, but I wouldn't autocross in one.

The LS motors are pretty light and compact. Also, I thought the ecotec was a cast iron block? The weight may not be that different.
edit: I guess the ecotec is an aluminum block, probably would skew the weight.

The idea is just as good today as it was when carrol chelby dropped a 427ci Nascar engine into a british roadster in the 60s.
PS the article is wrong about the 400hp 6.0L LS2 being the most powerful Vette smallblock. The 5.7L LS6 made 405 hp.

Don't hold your breath........they can't even launch a regular Solstice on time.
Meh, people have been doing this to Miatas for years, plus they weigh like 500-600 lbs less.
I really don't get the point of a V-8 solstice. I mean, the cost and weight will be about the same as a Vette and your warranty will be gone. Why not just get a Corvette?

I thought that myself not to mention the Corvette platform is better engineered to handle the motor. I imagine the cost will not be too far off and it will be a lot easier it will be a lot easier to finance. Regardless, it is still a cool car and their goal is to only sell 100/year which should not be a problem.

I thought, the solstice was priced in the upper teens / low 20's? So i can't imagine that this will cost as much as a vette. It would be a 25k to 30k upgrade to cost as much as a vette.
Engine
+ fabricating parts to fit the engine in
+ new tranny
+ new diff
+ new driveshaft
+ suspension tuning
+ enforcing chassis to handle the extra power
+ LABOR

Yes, this could easily turn into a $30k project if you want to do everything right.

Just because a car is nose heavy doesn't mean it can't handle in the twisties. Dynamic weight transfer is important as well, not just figuring out an easy statics problem.
Figures Mallett had a hand in this. Those guys have too much time (money) on their hands. God I wish I was rich.
I'm still not sold on the original idea of the Sky/Solstice. I wish GM could market the Vauxhall VX220 they modeled it after (right?). That car rocks.

True, but when there is this much work done to the car, you cannot say that it will not affect the handling characteristics of the car. All those modifications (engine, transmission, etc.) will add weight and affect the weight distribution.
