Hey everyone, was watching the tuner transformation on the speed channel the other night and on a ford focus they painted the stock wheels black. They did not go in depth on how it was done though :( But it actully look pretty good.

I was planning to buy some black rims for my black 8 but now I am wondering how this would do because I like the overall shape of the stock wheels with the rx8 center caps.

Anyone know how to do this or have any pics of this?

thanks

chris

I searched the forum but could not find anything out on it except a brief mention of powder coating so I went over to http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=412&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C458%2C459%2C460&KickerID=68&KICKER

Is this what I should use? Thanks

im getting it done by worco powder coating in long beach ca. He does powder coating for big stars. He used to do shaqs powder coating. He specializes in powder coating sand rails, roll bars and wheels. He's charging 50-60 bucks a wheel...not bad!

wow, at a price like that it is so much easier to just take it to him! I am on the east coast so I will not be able to get him, but I am going to look here. What color are you going to do, my 8 is black so i think i will do black

Where on the east coast are you? Try Manassas va. There is a place there that can do them in 4 days. Any color. Most places I found needed like 3 weeks to get them back.

mines are going to take 4 business days...they do everything in house so they don't have to take them anywhere else...

I am in southern north carolina, so about five hours from DC. Manassas is definetly a possibilty if i can not find anyone here. What's their name? What do they charge?

Thanks

Thanks for the info -
I already called Worco and I'm going tomorrow.
Now I have to decide if I want them completely black, or leave the edge the way it is and do the rest black...

I guess black would make brake dust a non-issue. Hmmmm...... (ponders)

I Scratched The Edge Of My Rim Back Tire Do You Think This Powder Coating Can Fix The Rim?

I think they can repair it and then powdercoat it.

As I mentioned I was going to do, I took my rims in on Saturday to Worco.
I got a call today that they are done.
I will pick them up tomorrow, and have the pictures posted this weekend.

I decided to go all black instead of leaving the edge untouched for several reasons.

1. If they powder coat the entire wheel, and don't have to worry about leaving an area untouched, they can sandblast the wheel, and start with a completely clean surface.
2. Starting with a clean surface, gives them the best results as far as durability.
3. Since they sandblast, it's less labor than doing it slowly with a sander. (Less $$$)
4. It's quicker. I wanted them back within a week.
5. If I decide to get the edge polished, I can have it done later for pretty cheap, and I didn't have to pay the extra labor charge for the precision powder coating.

Tomorrow feels like Christmas. I will have trouble sleeping tonight.
I saw some of the work they do at Worco, and it is definitely top notch stuff. I'm sure I'll be very happy with the results.
