Quick Q for ya guys... I have this problem where, if I have the car on and idle, the rotors spinning seem to 'squeak' as they turn round and round. I think it's the rotors anyway.... If I depress the clutch however, that sound goes away.

Do you think it's an oil change that's needed (I'm about due), or is it something else?

My wife started the 8 about two weeks ago on a cool morning. She came in and said it was making a funny sound. The same sound you described. I got in and press clutch in and it went away, I released the clutch and it was gone. Never heard it again. Sorry, don't have an answer for you, but it sounds like clutch. Also, my 8 only had 800 miles on it.

Your last statement is the clue. The engine is running whether or not you have the clutch depressed. If it was the rotors you would hear it regardless of whether the clutch was depressed or not. The "squeak" you hear is probably the clutch throwout bearing or the idler shaft in the transmission, not the rotors.

This sound seems to be a fairly common complaint. Mine has it and others have reported the same sound. If you are really concerned, take the car into the dealer and have them take a look and listen.

Ya i've seen this before. The fix was to change your tranny fluid. I put redline tranny fluid in my tranny & same sound virtually went away. Still does it tho very very faintly.

I'm calling up the dealer today for the same thing. Except the sound I hear sounds more like someone sharpening a small knife on a stone wheel. It's pretty faint, but still annoying. I hope that's the same thing your hearing or do I have a different sound than you all?

If the sound disappears when you depress the clutch, it's probably the same sound. If not, the dealer will deal with it.

Same sound here, but I haven't been really concerned about it. My last vehicle of slightly lower class (Chevy S-10) did this also. The engine was quiet as long as the clutch was engaged and "rattled" a bit when the clutch was let out on idle. You could even open the hood and pinpoint the noise to one area, but we were unable to figure out what was causing it. I had my transmission and clutch rebuilt (I have a friend who is a service guy) just in case and they found absolutely nothing wrong with it. He took me out on the lot to test drive a brand new one that had never been driven and it made the same noise. From what I know, it is a fairly common sound for all manual transmission vehicles, but I will ask my service guy this week when I take mine in for the other 7 or 8 things that need to be fixed (yeah, I am a little picky about my 8).

Sounds very much like a noisy throw-out bearing.

i have same problem, when the clutch is out (untouched) the car makes a squicky noise..... something needs lobrication. as soon as press the clutch the noise is gone.? i dont think its the bearing !

You would definitly hear it when there is a wall right next to you. if you go to ( to go windows) you would hear it? any one talked to the dealer? or fixed it?

Did you read this entire thread? IT'S THE IDLER SHAFT IN THE TRANSMISSION--A NORMAL NOISE FOR THIS CAR.

You can worry when you push the clutch in and it makes noises, that would be a throw out bearing.

Thats a fact "4 years to supercharge", the throwout bearing is only being used when the clutch pedal is depressed for gear change. If the foot is off the pedal, the throwout bearing is not being used. In neutral, (foot off the pedal) this sound is surely the input shaft main bearing sound.

Remember, there are other discussion threads that say people have modified this engine to double or more our standard horsepower and have not had problems with this trans, noisy or not.

It must be OK but going to a synthetic (RedLine, RoyalPurple, Amsoil etc.) has to be the right thing to do for everyone at some point, maybe after about 1000 miles for breakin or beyond.

Definitely let the transmission get through the break in period so everything seats properly.

I wouldn't put synthetic in till at least three thousand miles. I waited till 12,000.
