I was just checking out Dharrison's sight and there is a new RX8 ENHANCED DATA VIEWER comming out that will let you read all(?) 200+ pieces of information you could view from a WDS... even tire pressures and temps  . This is something I've always wished for....

In addition, the "Be The Dealer" program, which will let you flash your car yourself, seems to be comming along nicely.

Seems very promising :p http://www.obdscan.net/

Make sure you get the correct firmware version if you want to wait for the programming capability. It is different than the CanScan USB version. It has a power supply and different pin-outs for the OBD connector. From what I have heard the programming part is still in the early stages. A lot of the PID's are not accessable yet....they are working hard...

The good news is that they are at least working on it. I would love to be able to eventually go into the stock ecu and retune it myself for whatever I wanted.

and thats when the renesises will start blowing up like improperly modified FDs. I'm not saying you will blow yours up (if there was only 1 person on the board that knew what the hell they were doing, it would be you), but chances of joe-schmoo getting in there and changing something they shouldn't have...well, i can definately see that happening.

Since it is a nonturbo, it would be extremely hard to damage with improper tuning. It is mroe likely that alot of cars would just run a little worse. It's the people that just add forced induction and try to tune it themselves without knowing how that would blow things up.

I wonder if the updated program can be used with our existing Canscan.

Very cool - sounds like I'll have to upgrade my CanScan when he gets the "Be the Dealer" stuff set up. :D

Am I reading on the site that you need to have access to the ESI site to download the updates?

If so...I don't see a "tuner" opportunity. More like the ability to load the same files the dealer has access to?

Exactly - This will only flash with an existing file. So, there is NO tweaking a map.

Also this has NO digital dashboard like Hymee's - I would wait for the sCANalyzer

hey snap-on...will the snap-on OBD II scanner work on the 8? i've tried using my friend's scanner and i can't seem to initialize.

***nevermind. Snap-On's website sells an optional CAN adaptor for the Global OBD II program.***

If you have an old 2500 series chassis the CAN cartridge will get codes and flash level. It will also display FFD and vehicle data.

FWIW, I emailed Dan last week to ask him about this- I was one of the first RX8 customers of his older RS232 unit. He said when they're done with the new USB package, he's going to try to get the serial one to work with it... apparently it might be too slow to handle the stream of data from the PCM. I have also asked him if there's going to be an upgrade path for RS232 users to USB if they can't make it work, but haven't heard back yet.

I'm working with the USB version and an EDV beta copy, it's looking good!

but it does have an nice api so you can make your own displays

I didn't care about a digital dashboard, based on my past experience I don't consider it anything more than a "gee-whiz" feature, it really doesn't offer much with regard to programming or troubleshooting, I'll take graphs and tables over it any day

um you get graphs and tables with the Scanalyser also

yes, but I got the CANScan setup last week and it was coming from Houston so it only took a day

I'm not knocking the Scanalyzer nor do I have any intention to, this thread is about the Harrison R&D CANScan USB with EDV software and I was simply attempting to explain what was important to me personally with regard to my decision
