View Full Version : RX8 for girls too ?

Girl

Rear ended and car totalled so I am shopping for a new car. My fav is the RX8. Used to have an RX7 in college and loved it. I know it saved me when I was that age and drove way too fast. That was 15 years ago, and maybe a few more than that.
Is this car "cool" for an adult woman, divorced ? My son age 10 loves it. I am very feminine and fun loving and just appreciate the car. I would rather have that car than a BMW or Lexus.
I don't want to see like a guy .............. Do girls have this car too ?

Not only do a lot of women own an RX-8, but a rather surprising number of them post on this website. You'll find that most online car communities have little female interaction, both online and at local meets, this one has quite a bit.

Just a friendly warning that the RX is the type of car that you develop a relationship with. If you are ready for that type of commitment, then I say go for it. Hard to describe, really. You each just take care of each other. Yo! before the eyes start rolling, admit it, dudes! :)

i just like the way it looks and drives. no relationship for me but i would expect to keep it for a long time. not a car trader. i don't mind adding oil.
i suppose i did have a relationship with my old Rx7. after college in NY my friend had to push it to start it all the way to Calif. that was a fun trip. got it fixed when i arrived.

I've noticed quite a few females driving this car. For a sports car, it seems to be quite popular with the ladies.

Yes we do. In fact, you and I have much in common besides living in Southern California (see bolded stuff above). You'll love the car, but I'm afraid I'll have to tell you that the RX-8 is no more immune to being rear-ended than whatever your previous late car was. The good news is, though, that the 8 can be repaired to just-like-new.

Make sure you look for Phee, another of our kind who also hangs out here a lot. You and she both are from San Diego (I'm in LA Co). We could have a Ladies Only RX-8 drive!

Why don't ya'll stop in TX on the way to Florida? There are four local ladies w/8's, a wife who can borrow the 8 for a few days and a former 7 owner who's soon-to-be an 8 owner who would love another road trip!

First you'll have to come up North to the Bay Area. There are several of us females up here that post on this board. I love this car. I've had it for a year and still love it. :D

I agree...that was one of the first things I noticed about our trip to Austin. Lots of ladies driving 8s.

The first time I became interested in the 8 I was commuting to work one morning following a winning blue being driven by a very attractive woman. I idled up next to her at a stoplight, beeped, rolled down the window and asked her what she thought about the car. She loved it, of course, and that piqued my interest enough to learn more about the car and ultimately become an owner.
Additionally, each time I've taken my car to dealer for service, I've had the good fortune to meet other 8 owners like myself. They've all been female!
If you really like the car, and are prepared to adapt to the way to maintain and operate a rotary-powered vehicle, I say go for it. Definitely not just a man's car.

Ditto that! (as long as I don't have to be seen in a bathing suit!)

If too many chicks buy RX-8's, I'm afraid it will develop a reputation as a "chick car" and this will ruin sales to males for Mazda, since guys will then shy away from it. I'm not advocating a position on the issue but making a prediction, and am open to be convinced I'm wrong.

By using the current member population, I'd say that that although there is a strong female presence, the majority of RX8 owners is overwhelmingly male. I don't think Mazda has an issue with this car being a "chick car." And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't my money spend the same as yours?

Hey, that's me! Welcome to the board, Girl.

First off, your son's friends will think you rock just for buying the car. He will never ask you to "drop him off a block before" anywhere again. And it definitely gets male attention ;)

Seriously, it's the most fun car I've ever driven, and it handles sooooo smoothly. I look for excuses to drive. If I can help in any way, send me a private message. And Aratinga's idea of a Ladies RX-8 cruise would be way fun. We could tear up SoCal!

Girl - I don't think they even sell the 8 in pink. *ducks*

What I MEANT to say was if you like the way it drives, can handle the periodic maintenance, and are in fact a girl, then yes, the RX8 is for chicks.

thats wat i do... and plus i think a girl would look down upon a guy if they were driving an automatic... i know alot of my friends say that when they meet my friend with a g35 coupe... "ahh wat? an automatic? why didnt u get the manual?" im pretty sure if they were talkin about a rx8 they would be a little more harsh seeing how the automatic has less power and all

Thanks for all the posts and replies. It is great so many women have them.
I will most likely be buying one (silver), SOON ! After I drove one I knew I loved it but wish the expected reliability was a little better.
Now my only issue is reliability which after reading through the posts, I believe I will overlook and live with ... and hope if anything fails it does so under warranty.

Cheers to the ladies RX8 club ! Such a neat car . There are a lot of people browsing around here. I am so glad I found this place.
