View Full Version : OK....so who in VA reserved my plate?
HalleysComet 06-30-2003, 11:05 PM OK...Who in VA took my plate!
I went on the VA DMV site to reserve my plate RX-8 and it was taken!! It wasn't taken last week when I checked. Why didn't I reserve it then!
Good plate choice whoever has it ;) Now to choose from something else on my list.........
lefuton 07-01-2003, 12:12 AM what was your plate going to be?
HalleysComet 07-01-2003, 07:51 AM RX-8
ninedeep 07-01-2003, 09:29 AM That was me that reserved the plate - RX-8.....:D
nhuhta 07-01-2003, 11:20 PM I got the RX-8 Florida Plate back in March.

HalleysComet 07-02-2003, 07:53 AM I am still trying to decide on one. I wanted something simple with a statement. RX-8 was perfect for that.
Am I one of the only women with an RX-8 on order or what? Most friends think I've lost my mind and wonder why I don't just get the BMW or Audi. I get the.....your getting a what?.....a Mazda RX-8?
I try to explain about it being the next generation rotory, ect..... and they still think it is odd that I have decided on this as my choice. It may not be an Audi, but I think it looks just as good and will have a much better engine. I am not automotive expert though.

Yeah, you are...I think there are about 8 of us total, and maybe 3 of us that frequent the boards on a regular basis.
All my female friends are like "Yeah, that's a really nice car" and they have that look on their face that says "I don't know what the hell you're talking about." All the guys just kinda stare at me and drool a bit when i tell them. It's a nice feeling. Can't wait till they actually see it.
So what's everyone else getting on their plates? I was thinking of the gaelic word for "wench" among others. I keep trying to come up with something with "rotary" or "8" in it, and everything I think of is dumb.
Ok, cheezy YES, funny a little, Bad? BIG TIME!
I just thought of MzdaB8
ZoomZoomH 07-02-2003, 10:29 AM RENESIS?
RNSIS?
NOPISTN? (probably taken already)
AsNrx8 07-02-2003, 11:04 AM hi....i'm another female you can add to the list of many (or few) females we have on this forum. yeah i'm really excited about it. ever since i saw the rx-8 i've been like a big car fanatic. my friends get tired of hearing me talk about it all the time, but when i get my car, i bet they'll be begging to ride in it.
i'm not sure what i want my plate to be, but thinking about just putting my name and RX8.
TJRX8 07-02-2003, 05:06 PM Halley,
If that is you in the avitar I'd say:
LOOKGR8
STUDB8
IXILER8
GR8CHIK
:D
HalleysComet 07-02-2003, 06:23 PM yes, it's me and thanks for the plate suggestions.
I also like:

MY RX-8
RX-84ME
1GREAT8
C MY 8
CMY RX-8
8 RX-8
I do like your IXILER8 , added to my list.
RX-8 & ZM-ZM-ZM are already taken.
Now to decide on something.:D

Funny that you mention ZMZMZM- someone in Richmond has it on their Miata (at least they did a year ago when I last saw it).
Here's one my husband likes, that you might like as well. Seems like it fits you, from the picture.

And hi AsNrx8- nice to see another female onboard!

I'm assuming your name is Halley but that is a very cute name to have on a plate too.

Actually my real name is not Halley. I have a space obsession and one of my first studies was of Edmund Halleys Comet. I am not your typical female reader. I don't read Cosmo or Vogue, but I am a subscriber of Popular Science & Discover magazine. I have vast library on Space, the planets, comets, speed of light, wormholes, and many other theories, ect... along with my Conspiracy theory collection. (Another obsession) I love a good conspiracy.
I love to read up on science & technology. I happen to find the rotary engine rather facinating. I must say, if the rotary was in some ugly car, I wouldn't be so interested in getting it. Since the rotary is in a sweet looking package the obession over getting it has grown. ;)

ggreen29 07-06-2003, 08:18 PM Try

It'll combine your obsession and your gr(x)8 taste in cars! Of course many will wonder what a starks eight is, or what constellation X-8 is in and why it's so important that someone would commerate it on a plate.
Also check out this web site here (http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/) to preview your plates.

beaner 07-08-2003, 10:18 AM I have recently been trying to find the Virginia fashion plate that would reduce the bugs bunny appearance. Of course, since I can't buy my RX-8 for 2-3 years (have to pay off van first), then maybe the choices will get better.
I think if you design a plate, and get a certain amount of people to sign up for it, then you can get it put in the list. Of course, we would have to come up with a charity or a cause. I have some Vette Z06 friends that would like a nice looking plate for the front of their cars too.
By the way, Zoom plate wording is hard to find. We spent hours online trying to come up with a phrase. I have "I ZOOM" for my Protege and "WE ZOOM" for my 02 MPV. My wife really likes that on her van plate. (Though she didn't like it when I got the MPV into a 4 wheel drift the other day...too much zoom for her. And no puritanic mumbo jumbo, I was perfectly safe with no other cars anywhere near!)
See ya!

ahhhh the cosmos...gotta love it!im a fan of
astronomy, cosmology and all that other good stuff myself, ive been formulating a theory or two for a while now...close to completion, well, almost, its actually more like a bunch of theories that kinda work together to make one big one, many of them sort of redisign the universe(?) as we know it and kind of fly in the face of many other theories, but unify a lot as well...still cant answer the ultimate question though...but getting closer! and were getting close to a quantum gravity, so thats good god i love this stuff, i can go on for hours lol
do you have any of your own theories? and what field fascinates you most? of course i cant divulge mine lol, so i dont expect you to divulge yours.
anyway...
whats the point of some custom plate, i kind of hate them. i think the regular state assigned random order plates are the best ways to go. why? because, if you know your car is hot, why do you have to get some stupid saying/phrase scrawled on the back to draw attention to it? i think they detract fromt he car. sure, some of them can be kool, but most of them are excessive and somewhat tasteless in my opinion
beaner 07-08-2003, 02:43 PM And now we know why he calls himself the POOman.
:)
The main reason is it is very reasonably priced here in Virginia.
I certainly don't think my MPV is "hot" (maybe for a minivan). I just like having the option. Plus the standard Virginia plate is very ugly...why detract from your car either.

Sounds more like hypotheses you're describing there. How much observation and experimentation have you done to elevate your ideas to the theory level?
HalleysComet 07-14-2003, 04:26 PM I have just returned from a relaxing week vacation at the beach. It was soooooooo nice I didn't want to return to the real world. The weather was perfect everyday, the ocean was nice and calm, and the sound and sight of the ocean waves on my back deck were breathtaking.
Now, about my favorites......theory wise, I'd have to say the Superstring theory. Antimatter is also interesting, physicists have been able to create tiny quantities of anti-matter by smashing sub atomic particles together at near light speeds. It would be a great fuel and an antimatter rocket could reach a planet, for example say the planet is 41 light years away, only 130 earth years to get to. Aside from that wormholes and the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe are very interesting. Everyone has a different take on it. I believe with no question that there is intelligent life somehwere else in this universe.
I do have a a few theories of my own, but I could type a book about all of them ;) and I know I don't want to waste forum space with them all.
Conspiracy theories are very interesting too, the current reads the last few months have been books involving them.
I should get Area RX-8 on the plate in honor of Area 51, or perhaps Comet X-8. I still haven't decided on a plate yet but did like Elara's idea XQUIS8, and I also like RX-8 4ME and MY RX-8. I need to get on the ball and get a plate reserved. I missed my chance with RX-8 because I waited too long.
zoom44 07-14-2003, 06:13 PM Hey i just read in this months discovery that folks at CERN were able to create 1million anti-hydrogen atoms recently! my own personal theory from years of reading on the topic is that black holes (because of the elongation of time) never actually form in our space/time. about 3 or so months ago, i know this sounds fishy but really i started talking to freinds about it 3 years ago, ther was a story about an up and coming physicist who has according to the mag theorised the same thing in his new way of thinking about relativity. i'm not bragging btw, it's just kind of cool to see some real respected person in the field thinking along the same lines:)
and Halley, just my opinion, you should go with EXQUIS8.
pelucidor 07-14-2003, 07:27 PM I thought the elongation of time was only viewed by an external observer outside the event horizon (Schwarzchild radius) due to infinite red-shift. The actual particle does indeed fall through the event horizon, but you cannot see this as it appears to slow down and stop and then slowly fade from view. The upshot of all this is that I think there IS a real singularity within the event horizon (i.e. black holes do form). Also if they did not form then we could not have detected them from their gravitational influence or x-ray bursts etc.
Cosmology used to be a hobby of mine a long time back - I went to see people like Patrick Moore and Stephen Hawking give lectures in London and Cambridge in the late 80's. Interesting stuff.
HalleysComet 07-14-2003, 07:47 PM I read the article in Discovery on Anti Matter about the scientists at CERN. Very interesting stuff.
I tend to believe Black Holes do exisit due to the Hubble Space Telescope and the Chandra X-ray Observatory, who have independently provided what could be the best direct evidence yet for the existence of an event horizon, the defining feature of a black hole. X-ray observations have offered evidence for an event horizon by surveying black hole candidates that seem to be swallowing nearly a hundred times as much energy as they radiate. Those results imply that trillion-degree gas is falling over the brink of an event horizon, like water over the edge of a waterfall.
I went on the dmv site and XQUIS8 is taken but EXQUIS8 is not.
zoom44 07-14-2003, 07:57 PM actually pelucidor that is what bugged me for years about the idea. i couldn't quite work out that problem. however, this new seems to. and as he explains it better than i , i will get the article and post the appropriate bit in the lounge tomorrow or the next day. that way we won't have to completly hijack this thread. oh and did you hear that someone actually stopped light for a short time recently? things are really cooking now in the astro-physics community.
edit: i know i've been reading all of the stuff from hubble and chandra also, it is very convinincing stuff and i hope it is true as it would makes things easier to my thinking. it's a tough arguement sure. but wait til i post the article;)
boowana 07-14-2003, 08:00 PM I did it!
lefuton 07-14-2003, 08:04 PM wow talk about a thread hijacking...atleast it's by the thread started =p all this astronomy is interesting. i had just read an article recently regarding alternate universes. it basically boiled down to 2 conditions, if our universe is a probable universe and the unitary wave theory is correct, there should be another us 10^118 meters away, however the farthest we could possibly see currently is 10^116 meters so that's still 100x farther than we could ever possibly hope to observe given our current laws of physics. anyhow, it was in scientific american if any of you care to check it out.

And yes, they may not give a rat's @ss about the car and how special it is, but they will think they are pretty cool while riding shotgun in it.
I'm getting an 8, but the FD RX-7 will always be my ultimate car. It is so damned sexy and unique. Despite it's age it can still destroy most cars on the road......... especially the 8 !!!!!! I will have to get used to looking at 8's in my rearview mirror. ;)

You don't have to be an automotive expert to recognize genius and a blatant march away from the "beaten path." Good choice. The 8 will be my 9th Mazda product. (5 RX-7's, 2 MX-6's and 1 Millenia). ALWAZL8 01-25-2004, 10:44 AM Hey to the other ladies on the board. Add one more female to the group.... My plate is ALWAZL8. More because I AM always late than anything to do with the car. I had it on my last car and transfered it to my 8 when I got it in November. :D
1RX8FAN 02-04-2004, 06:36 PM Hello Ladies, Count in one more female! Well, I'm an almost RX8 owner. Mine is on order and should be here in about four weeks. The DMV let me put my vanity plates on hold for 90 days until the RX8 gets here. I'm going to wait until the plates are actually on my new sports car before I tell what they say.
Any interesting stories from female owners about dealing with car salesmen when you bought your RX8? I actually had one tell me that because there wasn't a yellow RX8 with the options I wanted available I would just have to accept that I couldn't have exactly what I wanted. My response was that if I was going to pay almost $31k for a new car I was going to get what I wanted or I wasn't buying. I went to another dealer who was happy to order the car for me plus gave me a better deal. Apparently the other dealer is still living in the old days.....

I had a dealer tell me there was no way he could let me preorder an 8 without agreeing to anything less than $5k over MSRP. Since I already knew more about the car and what was going on than he did, I told him to shove it (metaphorically speaking, of course) and found a dealer who agreed to give it to me for what I wanted. And the entire time the cars were being built, I knew more than the dealer about their own pre-order program!
The nice thing about being female is that when you DO come in prepared, they're usually unprepared for you- completely throws them off when a woman, god forbid, actually knows what she's talking about when it comes to buying a car.

1RX8FAN 02-22-2004, 11:05 AM In fairness to the dealer he did tell us it would take about 8 to 10 weeks for the car to be built and shipped. It will be 7 weeks since we ordered it this coming Wednesday. I guess I'm just impatient......
