View Full Version : For what car would you trade your 8
restob 04-21-2005, 11:41 AM I would never trade my RX-8 for any other car unless it was a upgraded version of the RX-8(Turbo, more Hp, etc.) But if I had no extra money, I could only afford one car, or something out of this world made me trade my RX-8, I would have to go with a car Toyota doesn't make any more. 1997 Toyota Twin Turbo Supra. Here are some picks for those not familiar with this beauty. How about you?
DreRX8 04-21-2005, 11:52 AM A 996 or 997 Porsche, Jaguar XKR/XK8, SL500/600/55/65, or maybe an LS2 Vette. I would have said an FD--but that would have to be in addition to my 8
______ 04-21-2005, 11:54 AM I'd have to agree with that twin turbo *drool* I'd kill for an SL500 (600...)
cas2themoe 04-21-2005, 12:50 PM Now thats a beautiful car....................................
juikster 04-21-2005, 01:07 PM Like that humongous frigging cannon coming out the ass end, ohh yeah!!;)
eclps0 04-21-2005, 01:09 PM a 2005 MIni Cooper s Works 210 hp 1/4 under 14.5 and it aslo handles liek a gocart :D
zipdrive 04-21-2005, 01:12 PM If I were to trade for something in my affordability range it would be an Acura TSX. I test drove it, a GS35, BMW325 (used), Honda Accord coupe, Volvo S40 and a Toyato Solara. To me, none came close to the RX8 in all around "feel". The TSX was the closest.
myfuncar 04-21-2005, 01:13 PM Perfectly restored 1979 Datsun 280 Z 2+2 with, say, 5,000 original miles.
myfuncar 04-21-2005, 01:15 PM By the way, I'd also trade it on this (if it comes to the market)
http://www.jaguarusa.com/us/en/vehicles/concept_cars/rd6_concept.htm
I gather its the same chassis - Ford badge engineering run amok. Anyone else think so?
3rd Gen RX-7.. otherwise you will have to pry the RX-8 from me when I'm dead.
Speed Racer 04-21-2005, 01:32 PM If I could afford the difference in payment I would put my name on a Lotus Exige. I'd even "settle" for an Elise. ;)
Buckeye3d 04-21-2005, 01:33 PM Honda S2000.
DreRX8 04-21-2005, 01:35 PM Honda S2000.
Aiming high aren't we  All jokes aside--S2000 is probably what I'd get if I was in the market for the cheapest/biggest bang for the buck roadster.
eclps0 04-21-2005, 01:38 PM This is what i would get, i am thinking of trading in my rx8 for it in a month or two...
8_is_enuf 04-21-2005, 01:39 PM I would not, but absolutely will trade it when then 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT 500 rolls off the line. Bye Bye Rx8. (bye Bye pretty much everything)
rx8wannahave 04-21-2005, 01:43 PM I would trade my NA 8 for a Turbo/SC 8....the more I think about it, since I need a 2+2, the more I can't think of something else I would want to drive.
BUT, if I had to...hmmmm....
BMW M5
Intrigue 8 04-21-2005, 01:52 PM supra, s2000 00-03 model, Sti spec-C, EVO- fq400 i know u said car but any of these would do
Biggins 04-21-2005, 02:20 PM Lotus Elise, Renault Clio 24v V6, BMW E36/E46 M3, BMW 330i ZHP, Acura TSX, Lexus IS300...
but I don't have an RX-8 just yet.
NAVILESRX8 04-21-2005, 02:25 PM I'd trade it for a mint super low mileage RX7 GSL-SE, or an equally pristine 86-87 Corolla GTS.
th1rd3y3 04-21-2005, 02:31 PM 97 Supra TT 6spd (or is300 w/ 2jz :))
05 M3 (supercharged)
06 Z06
ZoomZoomH 04-21-2005, 02:31 PM a factory-built Mazdaspeed RX-8 in Strato Blue Mica (or whatever Mazda calls their next deep purplish-blue sparkling paint color)
arattle 04-21-2005, 02:59 PM New Corvette convertible. That's pretty much it.
mikeb 04-21-2005, 03:05 PM nice supra
I dont care too much for the wing
bomex makes a sweet supra wing
I would trade for a m3 or e class mercedes
DreRX8 04-21-2005, 03:12 PM nice supra
I dont care too much for the wing
bomex makes a sweet supra wing
I would trade for a m3 or e class mercedes
E55 (drool)
I would trade in my rx-8 for an Evo 9 which will come out 2006. :-D
Umbra 04-21-2005, 04:53 PM Lotus Exige or
95 detamoso pantera or
mint early 70's lt1 corvette or
anniversary edition lambo countach(sp?) or
RUF porche or
high end skyline
All of which would cost me substantially more to get and substantially more to maintain.
monzter 04-21-2005, 05:38 PM I would trade for:
06 Z06
Shelby GT500
Thats pretty much it for me. I'm not trading up unless I can run a high 11/low 12 1/4 mile with a warranty :)
Microdot 04-21-2005, 05:54 PM Maybe for a newer 8 in a few more years
Flynbri 04-21-2005, 06:20 PM I know you guys will think I'm crazy, but sometimes and car and a person just fit...my wife drives a Mercedes SL500 Roadster and I couldn't imagine a nicer car, yet, I wouldn't trade my 8 for it...I love my car...we fit...there's nothing out there I'd trade my RX-8 for...When I was younger I would've said a Corvette, but I've owned one now and it doesn't compare as far as fit and finish and drivability...what can I say...my heart must pump in a rotary fashion:)
justice4RX8 04-21-2005, 06:29 PM :D I would like a FORD PINTO!
Ellar 04-21-2005, 09:08 PM McLaren F1. I'll even throw in a quart of 5W20.
http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/mainfr/cars.htm
Omicron 04-21-2005, 10:02 PM Not much really. Maybe a C6 Corvette convertible when they come out with the 500+ HP model... :D ...but I need the back seat. So maybe an Aston Martin DB7 or Vantage, a BMW M3 or M5, or a a few of the AMG Mercedes models. But really, I don't think I'd be able to give it up for at least a few more years. :)
mxmedina 04-21-2005, 10:47 PM Take a look at this beautiful worlds fastest production car. Plus I know the president of the US market. His name is Michael Sutteremeyer from Popano Beach Fl. I hope to drive one soon. Or better yet how about this 2005 merecedes SLR Maclaren that I had the honor to enjoy the inside of the $468k supercar. Koenigsegg is worth $500k
WHealy 04-21-2005, 11:07 PM One of these ... if I still had it ... the 8 that is. :)
http://www.prowleronline.com/scrapbook/00001355/whealy-nxs-firstpic1.jpg
Glyphon 04-21-2005, 11:21 PM a factory-built Mazdaspeed RX-8 in Strato Blue Mica (or whatever Mazda calls their next deep purplish-blue sparkling paint color)
i love that color. if it was available in the us, i'd have that instead of a black 8 (and i love the black)
canadian_8 04-21-2005, 11:30 PM E55 (drool)
my father is on his second amg... i love that car
Hornet 04-22-2005, 12:15 AM Let's see, the cars I would trade my 8 for! The new Z06, M3, M5, E55, RS6, Evo FQ400, or RX-8 w/turbo or supercharger. Unfortunately or fortunately I cant afford any of the cars that I would trade the 8 for. There are other cars that I would consider but they are too old and I just love having a warranty! I will say if something happens to my 8 there might be a chance that I will be behing the wheel of an Evo (again), STI, or GTO!
BlueFrenzy 04-22-2005, 01:36 AM I would only trade for supercars such as a Ferrari of sorts or Aston Martin DB7. Maybe the Strato Mica Blue 8.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v608/Bluefrenzy/astonmartin-db7.jpg
mikeyr 04-22-2005, 01:39 AM AM Vanquish....but then again, if i could afford that then i could also then afford to keep the 8!
BlueFrenzy 04-22-2005, 01:46 AM AM Vanquish....but then again, if i could afford that then i could also then afford to keep the 8!
Ha ha ... the oil change on an Aston Martin would probably be worth more than the 8!
mikeyr 04-22-2005, 01:59 AM Ha ha ... the oil change on an Aston Martin would probably be worth more than the 8! They don't use anything as vulgar as oil you clod, they run on pure english clotted cream.;)
poorman 04-22-2005, 02:09 AM Hm...
I just got my 8...
But...
Ill trade it for a McLaren F1
Then i would sell it and buy a new house, my rx-8 again, and invest the rest in a retirement account :D. but i think thats cheating huh?
redjetpack 04-22-2005, 03:17 AM im not sure theres another car within this price range i am that fond of....... that jag concept would be fine woth me i guess if the made it in red!
Mistersql 04-22-2005, 05:50 AM Depending on how reliable things stay with the 8 (knock on wood). If the car is reliable then one of the only factors that I'd need to trade would be when we have kids. I definatley don't want a minivan (too emasculating) and SUV's are for suckers with little dinkies.
Soooo I'm thinking Magnum, but then I remember that it's a dodge and say yeeesh.
If the car starts acting up and has all kinds of mechanical problems with the rotary and all, then I duno, M3? Maxima? I like rear wheel drive so comparing an M3 to a Maxima is like comparing apples to assholes (not to mention the quality factor).
Now if I had more money I'd start letting myself seriously get interested in the ford GT (I had a dream about it the other day).
Maybe things will get easier in a couple of years, maybe the car manufacturers will start introducing 'funner' cars for us commoners and then maybe we'll have a nicer choice of cars that puts the enjoyment in driving.
jjricco8 04-22-2005, 08:20 AM ......for a 1968 Fiat Dino Spider..
KyBlu 04-22-2005, 04:22 PM I traded my "8" for a 2005 C6!!!
L8APEX 04-22-2005, 04:44 PM Since we are all dreaming here...
first would be the 911 GT2, in silver.
an alternate would be the Maserati Spyder, stunning when seen in person. My father is trying to justify buying one. I hope he does.
canaryrx8 04-22-2005, 04:50 PM I traded my "8" for a 2005 C6!!!
that's what I would do, with a museum delivery to boot :)

The nose on that Porsche makes it look like something a Monster Garage team would construct to suck up all of the confetti after a parade.
crosswound 04-22-2005, 07:58 PM simple in this point in my life a FD but when time passes by more who knows.
KamokuWan 04-22-2005, 08:18 PM I would have to say the up and coming BMW M6. God willing I plan to unless they release a new Supra or RX-7 that catches my eye. :)
RX4life 04-22-2005, 08:42 PM A bridge-ported Twin turbocharged supercharged RX-8 with a 20B engine !! MUWHAHAHA!!!
PPen131 04-22-2005, 09:23 PM sticking within the same "class" of cars, i'd say the s2k and maybe the g35c(it's just so sexy!)
Ellar 04-22-2005, 09:47 PM Those G35 coupes are beautiful cars, but they always sound like they are trying way too hard to go whatever speed they are going. I've also never seen one going particularly fast, but that may be because the average G35 coupe owner is much more mature than I am! :)
Razz1 04-22-2005, 10:45 PM An Rx 8 Supercharge in 2006
nomopistons 04-22-2005, 10:48 PM That's easy-a 1972 Lotus Europa John Player Special Twin Cam
shaolin 04-22-2005, 10:54 PM I would only trade it for this fine set of wheels:
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0002CYUP2.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Ellar 04-22-2005, 11:24 PM ::scrambling to find a painter to make up a board like that::
Discman2 04-23-2005, 02:41 AM I'm planing on trading it in for the MAZDASPEED version.
Speed-ER doc 04-23-2005, 02:46 AM Most of these "trades" y'all are going to have to come up with a huge chunk of cash for. I already got mine.
Smoke Honda 04-23-2005, 02:52 AM I would trade my 8 in for a 350z if I could've afford the insurance. HEH
Ellar 04-23-2005, 03:56 AM I've been assuming the premise of the thread was an even trade. What would it take for you to give up your 8? I named my price...
Speed-ER doc 04-23-2005, 04:07 AM I've been assuming the premise of the thread was an even trade. What would it take for you to give up your 8? I named my price...
So I suppose the Porsche Carrere GT wouldn't quite do it for you then? Hilarious.
Ellar 04-23-2005, 04:23 AM Nope, I'm holding out for the McLaren. Why, do you have a Carrera GT?
Speed-ER doc 04-23-2005, 04:25 AM If I did have a Carrera GT, I don't think I would trade it for your 8.
Ellar 04-23-2005, 04:31 AM Good. Makes it even easier to hold out for the McLaren. Whenever you're ready to fork over the F1, we can do business.
Speed-ER doc 04-23-2005, 04:50 AM How about if I put a Type R sticker on this Odyssey? Just think of the HP gain!
Ellar 04-23-2005, 04:53 AM How about if I put a Type R sticker on this Odyssey? Just think of the HP gain!
My prognosis: Elephantiasis of the front bumper, and flanking tribal tats one decade late.
Do I have a future in medicine?
Speed-ER doc 04-23-2005, 04:58 AM Do I have a future in medicine? You would have to be better at medicine than auto trading. So yes. :p
Back in the day, to get back on topic, I would have traded my 8 for a low mileage M3 vert. But only if it was black and totally clean.
Ellar 04-23-2005, 05:08 AM If I were to own a BMW, it had better have an inline 6 or a V12. The McLaren happens to have a BMW V12. :) Plus, it'll have less chassis flex than a convertable M3 since it's a coupe.
No M3 ever won LeMans outright.
I'm not giving up my 8 so easily. Yer all sportscar sluts.
How about keeping the 8 and just mooding it?
1) stuff one of these bad boys in the engine bay. http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/product1.aspx?SID=2&Product_ID=1412&Category_ID=2&
2) Upgrade all suspensions parts.
I suppose I could live with one of these. :D http://www.jaguarusa.com/us/en/vehicles/concept_cars/xkrs_concept.htm#
L8APEX 04-23-2005, 08:18 AM If the premise was an even trade, then I would trade my 8 for nothing. I drove everything else when looking at the 8, and always came back to it. The used BMW M3 is too expensive to maintain, and none of the other appealed to me.
So I would stick with my 8. :D
