Has Anyone Replaced The Headliner Yet

I'm going to have to either replace it myself or have it replaced. I was wondering if anyone has done this themselves? I don't think I'd even know where to begin.

Bump...I need some ideas. Should I keep it the same color or get a different color? I just think anything different would make the front and back inside pillars look out of place. I wish I could find someone that does it in carbon fiber or aluminum even

I would like a black headliner...

... as I really dislike the light grey headliner, in this car and in others. For the BMW 3-series, the headliner is the same grey color except in the high end Performance Package (ZHP) and M3 cars, where it is black. I believe the rx7's had black headliners.

In the rx8, it looks to me like the only way to do it would be to a custom job. I assume it would mean some sort of black suede/leather/cloth headliner, and painting a fair amount of plastic pieces, such as the pillars, visors, hand grips, etc to black. I have never done anything like this, but I am tempted, just because its the only thing I dislike about the car (along with the ridiculous difficulty of replacing the headunit with aftermarket).

Anyone have any experience with doing a custom headliner on any car? Anyone know or guess if the upcomming Mazdaspeed version would have a black headliner (eg, did they do that in the Mazdaspeed 6)?

Hi,
I replaced the prison-gray headliner in my 8 with a black one last year,at the same time I had the seats recovered in black and charcoal perf'd leather.
Other than the headliner tech initially f*ck up the install, and the three times regluing, and ultimately having to replace it,I've been very happy with the look,if not the initial results.
The glue wasn't properly applied and the h/l came partially unglued three times last summer-and with a car with only 5000 miles,to say I was p*ssed would be an understatement. It's been re-done,and it looks to hold up fine, this time, and I'm still glad I had it done-the black/black looks awesome, imo.

question for Preacher...

Did you have the plastic parts (the pillars, visors, center light console, etc) painted black as well, so that you get a fully black interior?

Could you pretty please show us some pics?

Thanks,
Tony

I have a friggin burn in mine that is really irritating me. Mainly because I didn't burn it! I'd change it to black but those damn grey pillars will look like **** if I do. Does anyoen make a kit to replace the pillars? I thought I saw someone had carbon fiber pilars?
