So i'm getting ready to do my first solo II event in Sunny San Diego. I was curious what class i may be in. Anyone with experience please advise. My mods are in my sig, yes i have the greddy kit. Just out for fun (guess that's good since i'll probably be classed with some crazy cars)

I think your car would be in Street Mod 2. or EMod, your choice.

Yeah, sm2 will probably have more cars. Seems like em is pretty spare most places. However you do, check your time in the PAX to see how well you really did. Walk the course A BUNCH and maybe make a map of it and go over it in your head. Try just not to DNF on your first run, after that try to go fast.

A lot of the novices in my region spend our last event DNF'ing and the course wasn't that confusing. They didn't walk the course enough. You should be able to picture every part of the course in your head before the fun. Anyway, have fun, let us know how you do!

The requirement that might throw him into SM2 is that in SM the car cannot be "sports car based." Guess it depends on whether you consider the '8 a sports car or a sedan.

more advice,

don't drink alcohol the night before and get a good night's sleep.

you might want to try more tire pressure in the front than rear, like maybe 44 front/40 rear or 42 front/40 rear, if you are using OEM bridgestone tires.

also look ahead while walking the course and driving the course. slow down to go fast. late apex most of the turns. turn in early on the slaloms..

I agree, SM, the E36 M3 that is in BS with us goes to SM and it does not even have 4 doors. :p

well the SEB previously agreed with the STAC that the RX8 is sports car based, which is why it is not allowed to compete in STX so I would be surprised that they would not have the same opinion for Street Modified. They generally tend to be pretty consistent in that regard.

However, I don't believe the RX8 has yet been classed for Street Prepared, it generally takes someone writing a letter asking for this to occur.

Most important thing you can do, if you are going to stick with solo2, is get some R compund tires. With those mods on street tires you will be lucky to keep up with the BS cars. It will be fun to see an RX8 that can burn them from one turn to the next.
We are going to miss the SD event this weekend, but I am sure we will see you around.

if you are on street tires then you'd probably want to run STU

unless ULLLOSE is driving, then it automatically gets bumped to STFU :p :cool:

Kumho V710, and the biggest size you can fit. :cool: The BS guys are using the 245-35 18. However I have seen an RX8 run the 275-40-17. :D

Wow, what a blast. I had a wonderful time in the SD autox today! I am definitely going to be returning as often as i can! Hmm...now about those new tires....

Don't worry about tires yet. Just run stock (such as you are, at least), have fun, and learn to be as good as you can be with the stock car. Real street tires are easier for the newbie, since they lose grip with a little warning. Unless you're very unusual, there's lots of time to pick up by learning to drive, before you have to start thinking about spending real money by getting autox tires, suspension, sway bars, etc.
