View Full Version : Does anyone know what is the WEIGHT of the Stock RX8 fly wheels??? ELITE-RX8 04-13-2005, 11:16 PM thinking of getting a fly wheels and want to know what is the stock weight of the fly wheels!! and what you people think. which to get, Fanman 04-14-2005, 02:17 AM Wrong forum, but to answer your question it is 17 lbs (w/counterweight). recommendations would be the Racing Beat, Mazdaspeed, SR Motorsports, Unorthodox Racing seem to be good. ELITE-RX8 04-14-2005, 08:53 AM Thanks Fanman. Does it really matter to you BIU?? you just want to come up here and say something that doesn't help at all. thats all you want to do? Charles R. Hill 04-14-2005, 10:02 AM Elite, be glad BIU didn't tell you what you would normally have been told by asking such a question regardless of the forum under which it was posted. CRH Dark8 04-14-2005, 10:09 AM Thanks Fanman. Does it really matter to you BIU?? you just want to come up here and say something that doesn't help at all. thats all you want to do? Don't be so sensitive, he was just letting you know you posted in the wrong forum. And yes it does matter. If somebody is doing a search for flywheels in the corect forum this thread won't show up. ELITE-RX8 04-14-2005, 11:31 AM just not too happy because he didn't come up to tell me what i need. but just saying i post on wrong place. just make me feel he is just trying to be funny. but anyway. Dark8- i guess when search will search by word. that is just what i am guessing. but anyway my bad thanks for the post anyway. Charles R. Hill 04-14-2005, 12:30 PM If you search under flywheels you'll find all the info and argumentation you need to keep you busy for a few days. The matter of light flys has been discussed for about a year, now. I would say the bottom line is that all those who argue over the details have yet to install a light flywheel because once you drive a car with a light fly the details seem to matter much less. There are three or four companies whose customers seem to be very happy and that is what counts. I have an Indigo/SR 9.75 lb. fly and the thing is awesome. CRH ELITE-RX8 04-15-2005, 01:33 AM Thanks CRH. that is what you said at the stard BIU. anyway. i don't care. takahashi 04-15-2005, 02:16 AM 17lb for stock flywheel.... that is 7 kg. What stock car have you got:eek: Cortc have weighted his stock and it is 21.5lbs (inc counterweight) http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=28292&highlight=flywheel MazdaSpeed is 14lbs which is about 6.4kg Fujita Engineering is 5.5kg plus counterweight = similar to MS I guess you will go for the RE Amemiya one right? ELITE-RX8 04-15-2005, 11:53 AM Taka so you mean 7kg is the stock. i am not too sure still thinking. not too sure which is better. what do you think?? Fanman 04-15-2005, 12:07 PM 17lb for stock flywheel.... that is 7 kg. It was in the past issue of RX Tuner when they swaped out the stock flywheel for the MS unit, then the UR unit. The stock flywheel was 17 lbs, the MS unit was 15.5 lbs., & the UR unit was 14 lbs. takahashi 04-15-2005, 05:03 PM icic... cortc's scale must be wrong then :) OK now the stock fly is 17 lbs. If MS is 15.5 then it is not light enough. Too bad in Japan I can only find MazdaSpeed and Fujita Racing has flywheels. And only MS has clutch and flywheel combo. Fujita engineering is 5.3kg without counter balance.... so it will be roughly the same  The lighter is better of course, but the design to create the balance while spinning is also important. It is important to see where the weight is, cause it is in the spinning part, a slight change in weight create a hell of different. I am coming from a cycling world, and when I swap my stock wheel on my bike to Mavic psyrium. I think that was only 300g (over a 1.4kg for both wheel). THat is such as HUGE different. Therefore the best mod for bicycle is a set of good wheel. Same as in cars. I think I have to research more about the weight of all available flywheels. |
