HP Racing EVO rims that are 18x9 5x114?

Oh and what is the offset on the 8's? 38? sorry if I sound like a noob :D

 

stock offset is 50 mm. A 225 on a 9" might be stretching it (literally), as some people have even put the 225mm stock tire on a 7.5" or a 8.5" but a 9" ...yikes. Time to go for a 245-265 tire.

Yes, the stock rims are 8." A .5" either way and you are OK, but more than that & you might get some odd handling characteristics/fitment issues. even on a 7.5" you might affect the handling.

 

I put the std 225 on a 9" rim and they look like balloons. looked dangerous.
anything under a 245 on a 9" rim is too narrow. I have 235 and they are stretched. 245 will still look stretched on a 9" rim, like the std 225s on an 8" rim

 

but 245's are safe on the 9's right?

And when I do eventually get diff tires for the 18x8 size what is the ideal size? Is the stock 225/45 or 225/40?

 

yes, 245's on a 9" tire would look similar to the 225's on a 8" rim. Stock for our cars is 225/45/18's, but many people comment how a 245/40/18 fit just as well. The 8" rim is pretty much ideal for a 225-245 mm wide tire depending on your preference.

 

Oh sorry I didnt mean what the stockers were. What I meant is what would look better on the 18x8 the 225/45 or the 225/40? Same question for the 18x9 wheel which tire size would look better? Sorry about that.

 

245's are a good size and safe. with a wide rim you need the wide tyre to match.

std size is 225/45/18; 225 (width) /45 (profile/ side wall height)/18 (rim diameter)
base all tyre size changes round this. (there are tyre size calculators on the net everywhere)

most people suggest going to a different size as the std size is uncommon and expensive. 245/40/18 is considered the best size to change to.

tyre manufacturers will recommend rim sizes for their tyres. generally a 245 would be suggested for a 8" to 9" rim width, and optimal rim width would be 8.5".

the 245s will have a square sholder while the 225's are more rounded. there's lots of pic's of what 245/40/18's look like on std wheels.

for 18x9" go for a 245 it's about as narrow as you want to go and have a similar look as the side walls on the std set-up.

 

Ok another question.

What will be the affect of having a 225/45 tire on the front and a 245/40 on the rear since the Side wall is larger in the front? Will this be ok or no?

 

the front will be higher than the back (looks and maybe small difference in handling).
more understeer due to wider wheels on the back.
