View Full Version : Updated Delivery
miata2rx8 06-25-2003, 05:20 PM My dealer called me again (Nelson Mazda- Nashville, TN) and said my car is on the train to Dallas, where it will get its 'port options', and should be delivered to the dealer 2nd week of July. What I expected, but I was hoping for the first week...
Any news from any other dealers?
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 05:42 PM i hate to say it but it looks like they are going to hold the cars until they all get to their final port and release them all the same day. so it may be another 2 weeks!!!AARRRGHHHHH!!!
brothervoodoo 06-25-2003, 05:52 PM Well, I guess that blows my initial prediction on dealership arrival of the 2nd boat load of 8's into California. Guess it's 3rd or 4th in July for them.

brownchiro 06-25-2003, 06:21 PM Budaman stated the train is to arrive in Midlothian (Dallas) tomorrow, Thursday 6-26-03. My dealer is only about 10 miles from their but it looks like the same time for all of us if they are holding them.
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 06:29 PM nod so if they are holding them then we will have to wait 2 weeks, that should be enough time for all ports to receive thema nd install tyhe port options and do the port testing before they are released to the dealer. of course none of this is confirmed by mazda, just my observation. if anybody can confirm or deny this PLEASE DO!!
miata2rx8 06-25-2003, 06:31 PM so two weeks from today (~2ND week for everyone) or two weeks from what I had said- putting it at the end of July?
after over a year of waiting, whats a few more days....
DisneyDestroyer 06-25-2003, 06:32 PM Yeah, my dealer told me that Mazda said they're going to wait until the trains reach destination before they release the trucks out of Port Hueneme - he said to expect another 2-3 weeks.
He said they refused to explain why, which led his Manager to speculate that there was some issue found that they had to fix on the cars before dellivery to the dealers, kind of like a recall before delivery.
Yikes!!!
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 06:33 PM at this point it is anybodies guess/theory as to when they will arrive. i guess we can sit here and just keep guessing or just sit here a and wait.

no there is no recall, if there was i would be one of the first to hear about it mand i would post it here immediately. (i do the mazda warranty here) it is because mazda does not want one dealer to get the cars before another dealer. unfair advantage for the first dealer to promote it and sale it until all the dealerrs can get it. we in california just have to wait until the other cars get to their final destination port before they can be released. once all the cars are released then the trucks will pick them up. then it is more fair to everyone to be delivered together. this is just my opinoin but it seems to make sense with the delay.
tribal azn2 06-25-2003, 07:08 PM sigh, what the hell. whats the point of having our cars just sit there for 2 weeks. its money just sitting there, its time and money.
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 07:13 PM because mazda does not want to get bombarded with phone calls:
"but he has his why don't we?"
"we ordered first"
etc..etc.. and thats just form the dealers...
Urchin 06-25-2003, 07:13 PM I can see them wanting to have dealers in a locality, like city or maybe smaller state, hae the cars at the same time, but makes little sense to try to do that nationwide. Dealers closer to the port will still get them earlier.
ggreen29 06-25-2003, 07:15 PM whats the point of having our cars just sit there for 2 weeks. its money just sitting there, its time and money.
Isn't Mazda paying for the port space the cars are sitting on? That can't be cheap.
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 07:16 PM it keeps looking like the mazda 6 premiere. where on one day all the dealers had a special celebration for the new car. at this point im not surprised if they do the same thing with the 8. they want to make as much of a big deal as possible and this way they can have all kinds of media attention across the nation with a special first day release celebration!

they probably pay for the space whether they have cars there or not. they ship cars through there so frequently they just have a monthy or yearly rate they pay.

what they will do is hold the cars at each final destination, then ship the dealers that are further out a few days before the closer dealers so all the cars arrive close to the same time across the nation.
ibfubar2000 06-25-2003, 07:21 PM also none of this is confirmed or denied by mazda it is just my observation. so take it as you will.
tribal azn2 06-25-2003, 07:23 PM man this is just straight up dumb. who ever gets it first, gets it. its not like we would be taking other peoples cars. these are PRE-ORDERED cars, meaning who ever ordered one, will get one. it makes absolutely no sense to have a couple hundred cars just sitting there for 2 weeks. financially its stupid and common logic says that its stupid. look at the evo, cali got them first then about 2-3 weeks later it reaches the east.
anyways, i really hope that this theory isnt true. but i wouldnt be surprised if it was.

yeah but look at mits and the evo from a advertising point. when was the last time you saw an ad or commercial for just the evo. i can not think of one. and remember when the 6 came out? there were ads all over the place. the evo was sold pretty much from word of mouth. mazda is more af an advertising type company. they want to make a huge deal out of this car. so this is their way of doing it. im getting tired of looking out my office window everytime a truck drives by looking to see if it is my 8 coming in.
compaddict 06-25-2003, 08:02 PM Fair enough Fubar!

Puppy1 06-25-2003, 08:23 PM All of the 2nd boat cars will be in port by then too. So we will only be a few days later then everyone else. :)
3Rotor 06-25-2003, 08:23 PM Without exposing my sources, I don't think it is going to be a simultaneous launch. I truly believe that the cars will leave Hueneme soon, but from what I have been told, they haven't yet. I did get the impression (and this is speculation) that the cars that were unloaded from the Pacific Leader (Hueneme and Tacoma) were going to be released at about the same time. The Team from Japan in Tacoma is still looking over the cars and should be done tomorrow. I asked the specific questions about release, I was told they they haven't been told they can release them yet, but that they also haven't been told they can't release them. They are operating under the assumption that once the team from Japan is done here in Tacoma, that they are going to be ready to rock and roll. Since I went down there today, I won't be bothering them again in person until Monday. They said they would e-mail me if there was any significant change to what they have told me so far.
DisneyDestroyer 06-25-2003, 08:24 PM Yeah, that sure makes a bit more sense. Of course, it doesn't make many people happier, but I suppose it makes more sense than having a refit once it got to the ports.

I do not remember any Mazda 6 premiere. I do not think any one will remember the RX8 premiere except us waiting for them. They cannot sell more cars if there are no cars coming in until we pre-orders are taken care of. Do not see the purpose of them waiting, but if you in California do not have them yet, looks like we are all going to have to wait, and wait.
They sure are pumping out the cars though. I see the VINS are in the 5000 to 6000 now.
akrx8 06-25-2003, 10:21 PM yeah they must be on a roll in japan,my car was a 5469 and was built 6/19.i feel for you guys that have waited so long, that means all us nubies will be getting our cars only a few weeks behind you cause while yours sit at port ours catch up.:D

really?
the 30 second commercials foreshadowing the 6 with the car kicking up a "6" dust cloud, only showing short glimpses of the car...then when it came out they released a 60 second version of pretty much the same commercial but this time with the car fully revealed.
i definitely remember that...and i remember it being pretty compelling. hopefully the marketing for the 8 will raise the bar.
norats 06-26-2003, 12:13 AM when i was a kid...we had a pontiac dealer around the corner & I can remember a huge box over what was the new 76 T/A ....the one with the eagle sticker and side vents and all...I can remember walking past that for weeks while it sat there and you wondered what the hell was inside & finally they removed the box and poof, wow, there it was!......anyway, there's no magic anymore, just hype.
Could you imagine them keeping the looks of a car secret today, even after dealer delivery? We already have an idea of what the next 7 will look like before it's existence is even acknowledged by Mazda!
Happy waiting! tick... tick.... tick....

I still haven't received my vin from the dealer =( . The order number is the only thing that shows up on his inv list. (I didn't pre-order, I took from his allocation)
NEway, a question about the vins. Since the vins are now in the 5000s, are the vin #s used world-wide or are they all different for each country? For example, are there two vin #s 1001 - say one for Japan and one for the US?

If the 1st batch of cars are at their installation ports waiting to be delivered, shouldn't we already be seeing ads for the RX-8? They ususally start airing weeks before the big release!
Sorry, getting a bit off topic.
ggreen29 06-26-2003, 10:18 AM they probably pay for the space whether they have cars there or not. they ship cars through there so frequently
Well that makes sense...so how about this argument; the longer the cars sit there the longer I'm not paying for it. They've got the car, I've got the money and I'm eager to give it to them. Let's make that economy hum. It's the patriotic thing to do! Plus I think I'm herniating myself with all this waiting. The cars are sooooo close I can almost smell 'em.
Urchin 06-26-2003, 10:38 AM The more I think of it, the sillier it seems to get us pre-order folks upset over the delay over a publicity stunt. Mazda can still do both. I would not be upset with peopls closer to the port getting their cars sooner the same as we are happy for (maybe envious of) those in Japan who already have theirs.
DisneyDestroyer 06-26-2003, 11:14 AM I was thinking that having the cars sitting there is a liability for Mazda. If there's any sort of catastrophie while the cars are in the ports, Mazda won't get their money. If they give me the car then I get the car and they get the money, and they transfer the risk to each individual owner instead of keeping it on themselves for a few weeks.
