really?

the 30 second commercials foreshadowing the 6 with the car kicking up a "6" dust cloud, only showing short glimpses of the car...then when it came out they released a 60 second version of pretty much the same commercial but this time with the car fully revealed.

i definitely remember that...and i remember it being pretty compelling. hopefully the marketing for the 8 will raise the bar.

when i was a kid...we had a pontiac dealer around the corner & I can remember a huge box over what was the new 76 T/A ....the one with the eagle sticker and side vents and all...I can remember walking past that for weeks while it sat there and you wondered what the hell was inside & finally they removed the box and poof, wow, there it was!......anyway, there's no magic anymore, just hype.
Could you imagine them keeping the looks of a car secret today, even after dealer delivery? We already have an idea of what the next 7 will look like before it's existence is even acknowledged by Mazda!

Happy waiting! tick... tick.... tick....

I did get the impression (and this is speculation) that the cars that were unloaded from the Pacific Leader (Hueneme and Tacoma) were going to be released at about the same time. The Team from Japan in Tacoma is still looking over the cars and should be done tomorrow. I asked the specific questions about release, I was told they they haven't been told they can release them yet, but that they also haven't been told they can't release them. They are operating under the assumption that once the team from Japan is done here in Tacoma, that they are going to be ready to rock and roll. Since I went down there today, I won't be bothering them again in person until Monday. They said they would e-mail me if there was any significant change to what they have told me so far.
well that is great news. much better than my observation. i say lets go with your source. the cars will be here real soon!! woohoo!

I still haven't received my vin from the dealer =( . The order number is the only thing that shows up on his inv list. (I didn't pre-order, I took from his allocation)

NEway, a question about the vins. Since the vins are now in the 5000s, are the vin #s used world-wide or are they all different for each country? For example, are there two vin #s 1001 - say one for Japan and one for the US?

The Japanese VIN's use SE not FE and they are shorter.

If the 1st batch of cars are at their installation ports waiting to be delivered, shouldn't we already be seeing ads for the RX-8? They ususally start airing weeks before the big release!

Sorry, getting a bit off topic.

they probably pay for the space whether they have cars there or not. they ship cars through there so frequently
Well that makes sense...so how about this argument; the longer the cars sit there the longer I'm not paying for it. They've got the car, I've got the money and I'm eager to give it to them. Let's make that economy hum. It's the patriotic thing to do! Plus I think I'm herniating myself with all this waiting. The cars are sooooo close I can almost smell 'em.

The more I think of it, the sillier it seems to get us pre-order folks upset over the delay over a publicity stunt. Mazda can still do both. I would not be upset with peopls closer to the port getting their cars sooner the same as we are happy for (maybe envious of) those in Japan who already have theirs.

I was thinking that having the cars sitting there is a liability for Mazda. If there's any sort of catastrophie while the cars are in the ports, Mazda won't get their money. If they give me the car then I get the car and they get the money, and they transfer the risk to each individual owner instead of keeping it on themselves for a few weeks.
