Hi. I bought my 04 new last September. Since then, I've put about 6K on the car. I've noticed considerable wear on the clutch pedal over time; the shifter feels much lighter when changing gears, as well as the clutch pedal having virtually no resistance when engaging. This is my first manual tranny car; should I expect this kind of wear and tear? Is this just the clutch breaking in, or will it need to be replaced soon. I adapted to the 6 speed well and I rarely every grind. I don't drag race, nor do I rev above 5500-6000. Any help? Thanks.

 

Sounds like normal break in to me. You may find some folks on the forum who've had manny tranny problems with the 8, but I think it usually takes a fair amount of abuse to wear it out. I've been driving manny trannys exclusively for 30+ years and have never worn out a clutch. Just be good to it.

 

How many miles do have on your car?

 

Is the clutch slipping? Like does it suddenly feel like you are revving the thing in neutral?

 

No, it's not slipping. When I first bought the RX, the shifts were much crisper and felt much more solid. Now I've notcied, in addition to what I've posted previously, when I shift above 5500K from 3rd into 4th, the clutch has absolutely zero resistance and I don't feel the "kick" in the back of my seat that I used to. Hopefully this is normal, if not, I guess it's time to scour the web for an ACT or Exedy.

 

It is probably because it has some miles on it now and is fully broken in and is tranferring the power more evenly now instead of gripping rather abuptly. As long as you don't ride the cutch it should last a very long time, and take that car to 9000rpm's it likes it there, and that shouldn't put much more stess on the clutch than 5500 as long as like I said you aren't riding it out.

 

You shouldn't be feeling a "kick" anyhow. Maybe you've just gotten better at shifting.
