Hey there Ibfubar
from what I've heard there is not going to be a national launch day. They are doing the Roadshow thing which I imagine will start on the Westcoast. Ours isn't scheduled till Aug 1. They are supposed to send the cars to dealer as soon as they clear the distributin port. Did you notice they changed ETA's to a week earlier? Ours are due at Midlothian on Thursday, so hopefully they will be here sometime next week. I'm driving back to california this weekend with my son and am hoping to see some railcars along I10 full of RX's since the next boat is to dock on the 27th. I don't know if they can get them processed in 2days though! We can only hope

Ibfubar, I thought you said your dealer was releasing them as soon as possible.

Budaman: I saw those rail cars that carry vehicles; you can not see anything from the out side. I thought they were for transporting cotton until I saw them at Midlothian port. I saw a train go by today in Ennis and the sun was just right; I was able to see cars in them but I could not make out what kind.

confirmed today that my car is on port, while doing that the sales manager indicated they'd actually seen 2 RX-8 comes through.

Here's where it gets interesting:
- 2 RX-8s (1 AT, 1 MT) showed up Mon or Tues morning (23rd or 24th) in Tucson AZ along with a chase car
- Started from Port Hueneme in CA.
- Both were "production" cars
- They needed to hook up to some diagnostic equipment to confirm performance
- They had tons of test equipment including stuff to check the A/C
- Their next leg was into TX
- Goal was 15000 miles to ensure everything works PRIOR TO RELEASE OF ANY RX-8s to public

I can put an average of 1200 miles on a car in a day without doing anything really illegal, seems to me it'll take these guys another week to get the necessary mileage.

Anybody confirm or deny this stuff?

I have driven 1822 miles in 24 hours. Over two or three weeks 15K is possible.

15k miles, I wonder their route? Could be a full circuit of the country, LA -> Miami -> NY -> Seattle -> LA. Could make for a fun road trip. I figure there's going to be lots of changes in altitude, weather, road type, etc. if they're really trying to run a quick verification before releasing the car.

...so Edge,

you're telling the rest of us that two cars are driving right now doing a 15K test drive in the US?

If so....I wonder where they are right now? (Sunday 29th, @ 8:43 am PST)

....very interesting.

Here in the east, it would seem to agree with what my sales manager told me Saturday. He said there were cars in JAX at the port, on the ground, but that Mazda was going to hold them about two weeks so that engineers could go over them throughly to ensure there "are no surprises." Maybe they are waiting for the west coast "road trip" results? I'm sure Mazda doesn't want a repeat of the Miata debacle when the hp difference was discovered after release.

According to my information, there is no plans to "test" the cars or hold them up in any way. It's a ;ittle late for testing wouldn't you think? What if they found a problem? Are they going to rebuild them? I don't think so.
My information is that they are to get the cars to the Mazda poarts like Midlothian and make RX-8s the priority for make ready and get them to the dealers as quicklly as possible without cutting any corners.
I rpedict soem will be driving their cars for the holiday weekend. let's wait and see.;)

Our Florida dealer has shown us his updated status reports, and the arrival date for the car at his dealership is the first week of July. This is a week sooner than we were told last Monday. He didn't know of any lauch date or port holds. It appears Mazda is anxious to get these cars to the new owners, since there have been so many delays. I don't have any options other than GT, so maybe my car will leave the IP sooner than those requiring accessory installations.

If Mazda is not planning a "launch" then California should be driving their cars. If they are not holding them back, then port install must take weeks otherwise California would be driving their cars.

Not having any inside information, I can't post anything more than what my sales guy said. They're probably only reporting what they were told too. My dealer doesn't seem to be a "top tier" dealer. They still don't have accessory pamphlets or anything. They've been very late to get anything. Who knows how well the info is propagating. I feel like a kid playing the telephone game.

About once a day I have to say, "AAAAARGH! I WANT MY CAR!" Okay, got that out of my system. It would be really cool to get my car that's in CA right now (7 hours away max) sometime next week, even if it did come in on the second boat.

Years back I worked for a shipping / logistics company that had close ties with Honda. One day I come in to the office and I get put me on special assignment. Bunch of Japanese engineers from Honda were flying in that day and I had to go meet and greet them at LAX then drive them down to San Diego. Turns out the new Preludes had an ECU fault and they were there to swap out thousands of computers. It took nearly a week and half for them and a team of temps to finish.

So if the rumored Mazda engineers do find something, they may hold the cars at port and do final tweaks. So many items are different from Japan. Lower grade fuel, steering on the different side, more extreme climate, heavy Americans:D , etc. Hopefully they don't find any bugs...

Following received from RX8 orders to when my car is expected in Phoenix AZ, vin ending 1058.

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

Our system indicates the VIN you provided has an ETA of fifth week of
June. It looks like you can expect your RX-8 any day now. Although,
this is only an estimate time, it should not be too long before your
vehicle is at your Mazda dealership.

I hope you find this information useful. Please let me know if you have
any other questions.

(rest not relevant)

I also asked about the launch rumor, they said they will check into it, no response yet.

# 1 Cars will not be held because of this 15k mile drive. How the hell did you know about this anyhow? Damn!

# 2 Cars will be at dealers in less than two weeks.

# 3 Hope you like attention, this car gets it everywhere you go.

2 More Weeks?? Can you say why?

In my neck of the woods, the cars are nowhere to be found.. the dealers are so close to the ports.. and the ports are empty of RX-8s.. the dealers claim they don't have the cars yet..

Where would they be if the dealers or ports dont have them?

Hey "Inside guy"

I think KillJoy's got it right; who are you?

Change your profile so we all know who you really are (that could even be bogus), or just don't go there with stuff about "2 weeks" without supporting it.

hey now... i think inside guy does know what he is talking about.. and i don't think he needsto reveal himself to the group... rather than that he just needs to spill me his beans directly.. :D

btw. 2 weeks is a very good estimate in my "not inside" opinion..

OK Gang, here's my take on this.
We all know from the posts that there is one area of the country that has not had any RX's hit the port yet. That should be corrected in the next day or two. Its not a national launch in the traditional way, but I think Mazda wants to make sure no one gets left out. If the tables were switched, and the West Coast boats were still at sea and everyone else got their cars, there would be a whole lot of dealers screaming; not to mention customers. Of course if nobody on the Eastcoast had ordered any cars, we'd have ours by now. Next week is not that far away in the grand scheme of things. Kind of like at Christmas and all the presents are sitting under the tree but your parents won't let you open them yet!

It has hit the Port. About half of the RX's I had on that boat are now on railcars heading to Dallas. Unless..... these cars were really on the first boat and they held up the reports. That would be really sneaky, but would make for a good espionage movie!

I'm one of those that are on the 2nd boat. Could you check to see if it shows on Port or on water.

Hello guys, I don't know about anywhere else but here in Puerto Rico we had an RX-8 launch!

Mazda Puerto Rico sponsors one of the many racetracks / speedways we have on the Island (the newest one) which is located by the beach in Ponce, PR a beautiful location! They held what they called "official National Mazda Day" this past Saturday and Sunday where they oficially unveiled the RX-8. It was a very fun weekend! They had an awesome exhibit with mostly Rotary cars from all the years and Rotary conversions (mostly nissans and toyotas but also some isuzu (suzuki?) samurais with rotary engines). They also ran quarter-mile drag races for everything Mazda, from 19 sec stock proteges to a very fast 8.60 sec 13B funny car! It was a real blast! Plus the RX-8 girls were almost as hot as the RX-8.

Now for the bad news. There were some of the world's fastest rotary cars (anyone heard of 7.7 sec Rafaelito?) in the exhibit but they didn't run 'em on the drag strip. Second, the RX-8 was for the eyes only, no touching, no seating not even hearing the beautiful rotary roar! Then they said we're only getting a first allocation of 85 cars for the whole Island (3.8 million people) the first week of August. And the worst news is the price, $29,900 for the Auto and $39,900 for the manual!! And yes guys, I mean US dollars! They didn't even specify which models or options for the price. I have some pictures of the event, nothing new about the RX-8 which they told me is a pre-prod model. By the way, what you guys said was true, seeing the car in person is an amazing experience! No pictures whatsoever illustrate just how gorgeous this car is! Do you think I should post the pics here or start a new thread? And I have a 15min miniDV movie, mostly RX-8, some races but I dont have the slightest idea on how to get it in the PC.

Hola niet_jnf,

I'm sorry to hear about what they are charging you for the RX-8, but I am real happy to hear about the video and the Pictures.

Create another thread in the Multimedia section. I'll be waiting for it.

Gracias,
