I recently received my State Farm renewal and was surprised to see that they are now basing liability coverage premiums on specific vehicle makes and models. The breakdown on the 8's rating is as follows:

LRI- for damage caused to other vehicles and occupants within those vehicles, the 8 has average claims experience.

VSD- for injuries to occupants within our own vehicles, the 8 has slightly higher claims experience.

DTI- for damage to or theft of our own vehicles, the 8 has worse-than-average claims experience.

While this rating seems to be somewhat negative, my premiums are still quite affordable. In fact, I'm paying the same premium I used to pay on the '96 Exploder I owned before the 8, so I really have no complaints. You can access State Farm's list on the following website and compare makes and models.

yea I was surprised at the insurance for the RX-8 from State Farm. My StateFarm agent told me last week it would cost the same to insure a brand new 8 as it currently costs for me to insure my '99 V6 Cougar...BUT that car is on my parents' policy. So it would actually be cheaper for me to insure an 8 by myself than it is my 6 year old car by myself. However, the rates are still high.

With Erie PA--my rate went up $12/year for the 8 when I traded my '01 Mustang Coupe (base).
