View Full Version : which radar detector is the best?
mr2000x 03-27-2005, 02:50 PM Hey
Was wondering if any of the rx8'ers,
have had any experience with radar detectors.
What is the best radar detector (and laser jammer)?
Thanks
Sorry if this is a re-post
vdelvec 03-27-2005, 03:36 PM I haven't had any experience with laser jammers but I'd have to say that the Escort 8500 X50 is the best radar detector I've ever used and I've owned about 6 different detectors in my life. I also like the Uniden GPSRD but they don't make it anymore and it is about 3 years old. But yeah, the Escort 8500 X50 is the best one I've EVER used. Alerts you of Ka band using Highway Troopers coming up from behind quite a while before you're in range of them scanning you.
er0sion 03-28-2005, 01:32 AM valentine1 , hands down.

i've had this for 3 years and it was so worth the price. i have it directly wired into my 8 and its sitting on the visor. :)
StealthTL 03-28-2005, 01:48 AM I use a Bel 9 series.
It has the tremendous advantage of being able to turn off specific bands, for instance X-band. Most false alarms I have found are on X-band interference, but the police haven't used X in twenty years - I can turn it off and know that when it bleeps, it's for REAL!
Hard wired into the mirror power, on with ignition. Set it and forget it.

RPIRX-8 03-28-2005, 02:54 AM ANY respectable publication that does a comparison of radar detectors rates the Valentine One as the best. No other rader on the market has the technology and range the V1 has. Its pricey but more than worth the money. Take a look at the website. The arrows alone are worth it.
OBryanRX8 03-28-2005, 06:15 AM agreed i have the valentine one also and i love it. the range is awesome and being able to detect multiple signals at once is pretty cool so you can detect speed traps
RX8rider 03-28-2005, 06:50 AM The Escort Passport 8500 x50 is amazing. It's been rated #1 by many reputable sources too. http://www.escortradar.com/x50.htm
It's #1 in my book....having saved me many times already. Got it hard wired to the map light.sunglasses holder at Cicuit City for $27. It looks clean and work great.

As far as Laser Jammers, Blinder is probably the best but ineffective against the new generation of Laserguns. http://www.usblinder.com/
Also jamming is a very bad idea as the new guns have a code that displays telling the officer someone is trying to jam the unit. Talk about a cop w/an attitude!!!
Just ordered the V1@ $399... ouch
$140 ticket last week 50 in a 30 (country road at night) BIGGER OUCH...
How do you wire it to mirror power... Anyone w/a DIY?
Thanks

There is a DIY on how to hard wire the V1. Very easy install, consists of pulling out the unit with the moonroof switches, quick splice, replace unit.
mr2000x 03-28-2005, 01:07 PM thanks 4 all the info people,
i've just ordered the BLINDER M20 X-TREME 4 the laser jammer
as for the radar detector,
it was a close call between v1 or the beltronics pro 65
(just found out i need the ku band which both these models offer)
Ended up ordering the bel pro 65 only because it's a little smaller or at least it looks it. plus its pop mode seems a little more stable than the v1's. let u know how it works on the highway out here when it's fitted! So many cops!
Passport SOLO2 .. no probs.. love it.. ;)

Rx8bydocabe 03-29-2005, 05:45 PM anyone know what lidar is?
Thommino 03-29-2005, 05:46 PM in your opinion, can a radar detector work also in italy?
And when police uses laser shot?
Tigster 03-29-2005, 09:05 PM anyone know what lidar is?
Lidar is the term used for "laser jammers" They are well worth the money..
As for the radar detectors I like the Passport X50, one of the best I have ever owned.
dazygirl415 03-29-2005, 11:15 PM So glad someone posted this thread. Been wonderingt the same thing and doing searches and coming up empty handed. THANKS!
Thommino 03-30-2005, 12:41 AM Why do you like Passport 8500 X50?
Lschiavo 03-30-2005, 01:11 AM I am selling my Escort X50 (Blue) for 250$.
I used it for 2 months and ended up discovering that police in Calgary only uses lasers. After the third ticket that I got I noticed that the radar was not good for this city. Too much high tech here I guess.
It is almost new, I bought it couple of months ago. ANyone interested please PM me...

Thommino 03-30-2005, 01:39 AM is there a product that integrate traditional function and anti laser function?
mr2000x 03-30-2005, 05:29 AM is there a product that integrate traditional function and anti laser function?
As to your earlier quote (radar working in Italy) The only radar that will work for you (that is any good) would either be the valentine1 or the beltronics pro rx 65 the reason is you need to pick up ku band, these are the only radar detectors that do that.
Bonus! If you buy the beltronics pro rx 65 you can also buy from them the laser pro 905. It connects to the beltronics pro rx 65 and works with it for the ultimate bundle against police.
You should buy this just for the rx in the name! :D :)

Thommino 03-30-2005, 06:57 AM Are youu sure that in italy there in only ku band?
Look http://www.radarbusters.com/products/beltronics/rx65.asp features, I can see that it is useful also for laser! So have I a complete protection?

Artzy8 04-01-2005, 05:51 AM Just got my V1 yesterday...
IMHO: Technically speaking the V1 is superior. I once worked w/ a geeky engineer who was very focused on the best engineering design, however the "bells & whistles"competitors started to eat his lunch with their sweet icing on a half baked cake.
I think this best characterizes Mike Valentine and his company. If you want lots-o-features (i.e. voice, dimming etc.) then V1 is not for you. If you want the best technology to keep yourself ticket-free, then go with the geek (sorry Mike, it's a term of admiration).

mr2000x 04-04-2005, 11:16 AM So here is a pic of the beltronics rx65 that i picked up today. Will test it out and let u guys/gals know how it goes!! :p

And the best RADAR JAMMER:
RADAR JAMMER - BLINDING SPEED!!! (http://www.1-radar-laser-jammers-detectors.com/)
just go to the www.speedzones.com and read that whole thing.
StealthTL 04-06-2005, 06:37 AM Please don't fall for 'Rocky Mountain Radar's' line of BS "Jammers" - they don't work.
There has never been a valid test of them, they can work in the store, up to a range of about twenty feet! Beyond that they are useless.

said7 04-06-2005, 08:35 AM I wish the x50 had the remote face like valentine does. The stealth options are to expensive.
bhutad 04-07-2005, 12:28 AM If you can spend the $ the Valintine is he best. I have the Passport X50 and I am incredibly happy with it. I found that if you are spending less than about $300 retail on this device it is not worth getting
psionic1 04-07-2005, 04:37 PM Escort Solo 2 has saved my ass many times. I like the cordless option so I can use it in others cars...

barielle 04-07-2005, 10:22 PM This one is easy. I have made a living for 20 years with these types of technologies. The V1 is far superior in any way that counts. I did not see anyone mention some of it's advanced features and ability to be owner re-programmed. Valentine doesn't openly tell their customers how to do this but with a little help you can program this thing to work exactly like you want it. Also they advertize they will not let your unit become obsolete. I got a new one for my wife and for kicks I mounted them both together. I sent mine back for an upgrade. For a hundred bucks or so I got a brand new unit (with 2X POP)when mine was at least five years old. You want to be able to do this five years from know. Buy a V1 with a remote head, mount the unit on passenger visor, conceal the wiring (uses reproducable phone cords), put the remote head on it's cigarette ligher head and put it in front of the shifter. You can silence and black out the V1 face and tilt the remote face to you. I got power from the cig lighter in the next console af or under the dash. Pretty stealthy. Then program it to work nearly any way you can imagine. Only thing you might want to go is to default it's custom programing before sending it to them if you need service. I've got more than thousand in my two V1's and they are worth every dime. I have never gotten stopped for speeding with a V1 and I drive (except residential) how I please.
