Cool How much power...do you think?

PLEASE don't flame(probably useless to ask not to)...it just seems like i can't post a message on these forums without getting flamed

is it possible to get the car to around 300hp or more? since it's a rotary, i'm not sure how hard it'll be to mod it...or what you can do to it...and i know other cars come stock at that, but insurance would kill me (ex. 1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, about 325hp - $4,000 a year, which is $333.33 a month...and at that rate, i'd be counting my pennies just for gas...let alone luxuries or food) so i figured i could mod an RX-8...i don't think insurance will be as much...especially since the 8 has about half the hp of a TT Supra...right?

also, keep it emissions legal

for emissions legal I am not sure

http://www.ssr-engineering.com/products_rx8turbo.php (try to search thru this forum) they have their dyno graph here. https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=329

Only real way to get it to 300 hp is forced induction (turbo, supercharger, or nitrous). The RX8 dynoes around 170-190 whp which is really closer to 220 hp range, not the 238 hp that is stated. With tuning & CZ unit people are getting around 200 whp, still nowhere close to 300 hp. You need to get a turbo which will put you around the 240-250 whp range that is almost 300 hp or a 55 shot nitrous will put you almost there as well. No current SC kits out for the RX8 yet.

I think Blitz is coming out with a supercharger. My buddy at UC Davis said some guy there got an BLitz supercharger in his 8 for testing. Not 100% sure because I didn't see it for myself but I think it's most likely true though.

We all know Blitz is coming out with an SC, as well as Pettit & maybe HKS. Several people here have shown the Europe Blitz kit. But they are not currently out yet in the US. Also if you translate the Europe price here it is like $7 K !!! Also the turbo kits are putting out more hp (60 hp+ for the Greddy, & 100 hp for the SSR) than any of the SC's are claiming (around 50 hp for the Blitz & the hi-power Pettit).

i met MazdaManiac and got a chance to see his custom turbo'ed 8. he told me at 6 PSI, the car dynoed around 230 HP. he's now running 9 PSI...which could be about 260 to the wheels. which means he's running close to 300 HP to the fly. that's a pretty quick 8 if you ask me.

Any routeyou decide to go w/forced induction willbe a pricey one (youre spending at the least 5000) so justmake sure of one thing: dont ******* crash.

Garrett GT3540R Turbo, External Wastegate
Custom, equal length exhaust manifold
Custom downpipe
Custom charge pipes
600 hp intercooler
550 cc/min injectors
Some sort of fuel pump
GReddy eManage and Profec e-01 with injector and ignition control harnesses

At about 8 psi you should see well past 300 whp with spoolup by 3000 rpm.

actually how many power doesn't very matter.. since.. all the power is for speed.. what really matter is .. how fast is the car..!! and the best money/speed's car.. I think it's evo..so far...in the market.

you'd waste a 35/40 on 300hp? use a 30 or 35 and save the spoolup

I know a few people without clutches & messed up warranties that would disagree with you. Covered in this months Turbo magazine. The Mitsu's clutch & flywheel design has some inherent problems. Not to mention this month's Car & Driver tried to mod their Evo with the Vishnu Stage 1 & ran into a bunch of problems as well.

you'd have to run a 30 or a 35 at higher boost

the point is to run low boost yet get lots of power, hence a GT3540R, I bet a GT42R could probably make 300 hp at 5 psi . . . . . but I suggested the GT3540R cuz I already looked at its compressor map, cross-indexed it with the boost I wanted to run, and it definately flowed a shitload of air, more than enough for 300 whp.

I never get tired of telling you this, so don't worry.

Why don't you get one of the turbos that they used to run on the Champ Cars when they still ran at Indy. I think IHI made them. They will flow about 1200 cfm at 5 psi. That should give you 600 hp.

Why not? Because flow is not independent from pressure.
You guys keep looking at flow maps and think you can get that air in just because it can do it in the lab. Pressure is the resistance. The engine only flows so much,so you force in some more with pressure. Now it gets cmplicated as there is heat rise and I've explained all that before.

But I've come up with a perfect analigy for you. Look at this way the engine is alredy being supercharged by mother nature to the tune of 14.7 psi, right? If it wasn't it couldn't run. So we start off with the original compressor, Mother Nature. So go to her website and check out the compressor map. Very impressive, 100% efficiency at Pr1. Volume/flow is infinite you an have all the air that surrounds the earth at that pressure. Therfore if flow was not dependent on pressure ratio you wouldn't need nukes you could have all the power in the world from your rotary.

You could use all the oxygen in the tropisphere in one engine. Of course everyone could so all those engines would be fighting for the same air and the pressure would go down and we would all be sucked into those engines along with everything else.

So it doesn't work that way. Read Hugh McGinnis book on turbocharging. It's a good book even for supercharger people. Alot of it applies to both. It's cheap, it's a paperback HP book. One of only a couple of those I would recomend. Most are a little, how do I say it, not that accurate. He was an engineer at Catipillar. I went to a seminar of his once, knew his stuff. I learned a lot from it. Like a lot of the smart engine guys he has gone on to the big race track in the sky. But he left you that book. Someone go buy it, and tell the others so I don't have to.

He has a whole chapter on turbo sizing, in fact I think there are two or three.

I don't normally do this to people, but you could spend all day looking for a book by "Hugh McGinnis" about turbochargers, and never find one. "Hugh MacInnes" on the other hand writes one, which I just ordered from Amazon. :D

You got the message, didn't you? So I got my point across then. I don't have to know how to spell it to remember what's inside.

But you're right, I remember now that you have shown the right way. Just wait, see if you can remember as well as I do when you're my age. And you read it 20 years ago.

So let's see Skud, in 20 years I want you to call me and without cheating I'll give you a quiz on that book. Trouble is I'll probably be at that big race track myself.

cat-back exhausts....don't they have filters?

if so, would it filter it enough to be legal?
