View Full Version : Voltage Stabilizer - Advise needed.
M-ster 03-06-2005, 04:02 AM Hi guys, need a bit of help here.
Me wanted to do a DIY on this, and just bought the VoltageStabilizer + Grounding Kit.
As I was trying to install it, just to realize that the cable might not be long enough to get to the battery. I think the best place to mount the VC is probably on top of the casing just to the left of the battery. And because the battery has got a cover with deep side walls except the Positive outlet, it seems to be quite a stretch for the VC cables, especially the Negative ends.
I'm sure couple you guys here have done it, could you kindly post some pictures of how you VC is being connected to your battery, or just simply drop me a note here.
Thanks a bunch!

is ur voltage stabiliser the muck tok abt z-stab??? or pivot stabiliser???

no man, i know pivot, that blue box that flood the market and frankly this is the first time i heard of z-stab! Probably didnt take note of it as there are so many in the market. but after visiting the site, it does sound good. and would have gotten it to support the local product!
anyway me just got one of those with a metal casing, its E-power from silver jp.
sbu12g 03-11-2005, 04:14 AM bro, make sure your voltage Stab wires can stand the heat of the rototary. once overheated, you wouldn't feel the diff...just a thought.
coupe07 03-11-2005, 09:35 AM i personally felt the voltage stabiliser is very over hyped...... even the capsule thingy, grounding issues..... all too exaggerated....

I had one of this voltage Stabilzer for 6-8mths and I still do not know what are the advantages?

precisely.... u felt any difference after installation?????
the only vast difference should be psychological....
a lot of pple say fuel consumption improve, throttle response better, idling speed constant, ICE system sounds better, lights dun flicker..... seriously, with or without.... i really tink its psychological..... cos install liao, psychologically feel that all the minor issues all solved....
M-ster 03-22-2005, 03:43 AM Well, I've got my up.
I definately feel that the idling and throttle is smoother. As for the rest of improvements, I don't think so.
I've posted pix and my comments here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=34997&page=3)

That was the original MazdaSpeed 4pt strut. Not from garageR, got it thru my PI when i purchased the car.

How much are they?
Do they really make the car stiffer? and better when cornering?

If I remembered correctly, the bar should be around $800+-.
As for if it makes the car stiffer or improvement on cornering, I cant share much, as I have it installed when I got the car from my PI. That's when I've decided to keep the car stock for a year before starting to add anything on it.
So how long did you drive your car for, before you install the VS? Probably too short a time for you to tell the diff?
As i have driven my for a year before i install the VS, thus i know what the car feels like with and without it.

I drove my car for around 11mths before I install the VS.
But the car is a proton waja not a RX8.
sgrenesis 03-24-2005, 04:34 AM hey m-ster were you the one that got locked out that day.

Dont know wat you taking about, so probably its not me.....
sgrenesis 03-24-2005, 12:05 PM oh, pai seh. tought you the guy that got locked out from his car that day at MS.
clarencel 07-05-2006, 04:09 PM hey guys,
Anyone has got a Voltage Stabiliser installed?
Any obvious gains after installation?
Which brand would u recommend? Saw Pivot and Hot Inazma in some magazine, any views on them?

bro you are right all should be psychological effect but only one thing there is a great difference. The item is your ICE setup confirm plus garanttee cause i got a voltmeter thingy install in my car for my ICE normally it reads about 13 then it flactuates to 12.8 or 12.9 ever since i put in the VS and Grounding, it always stay constant at 13.5 leh
and the amp can tune to higher power output with stable effect
but all those are IMHO so pls i not starting any war if you think other wise then so be it ok :worship:

bro i think all the same lah just the branding and packaging only why i tell you
last car i own i have inazuma then reading for my volt meter managed to stay constant
then after i bought my 8 i went to MC Well they say inazuma cheong one must buy pivot with the letter K behind the capicitor in it. So i buy lor after installing it also give me the same effect leh

Mazda has 3 grounds to the body and 2 near the engine; if i remebered correctly. Usually cars comes with 2 only. One on block and body or block and alternator. If mazda installs more then must have some importance. And personally i also felt its important.
2 months back there was a dyno test for a grounding cable in import tuner magazine. There was a gain.
I have the pivot stab and ground installed the 1st mth i got my 8. Maybe it was psychological; but it felt good especially for only $150.
volt stabs are good to prevent spikes and dips. Benefits for this is quite obvious. Grounding is good especially if done properl; ground points and conductivity is important. eg. ground far from block vs ground on block.
What i agree with bro coupe07 is the capsule thing. I still cannot figure out how it will work.

FYI, hot inazuma is the cheong one from taiwan. Hot inazma is the authentic one from japan from sun auto.

wow the spelling almost the same man thanks for the info bro..
My old one is from taiwan cheong one cause i ang moh bo ho so that time buy kenna cheated.
but now i got the pivot one confirm real one cause kenna cut throat by MC Well some more got the alphbet K below the capacitor one hehe this time round i know how to diff the alphbet K cause my kindergadern teacher got teach me A,B,C etc hehehe
but as mention i agree to almost 85% to what you describe about the VS as phycological effect but the stabalizing of the voltage effect really got to give credit to it cause stable voltage really helps in ICE..
virus 07-10-2006, 07:39 PM Try Direct power (type rotary) .....gain 3 hp ...dyno tested by myself .....ask those guys who i recomm it abt the review.....sgrenesis......cost around S$280
KJ238 07-10-2006, 09:58 PM There is a DIY on making your own grounding as well as the mount points in the DIY forums
Emperor 07-11-2006, 12:17 AM I made my own grounding. Not difficult just time consuming. Considering how cheap ready made grounding is; DIY may not seem too attractive anymore. Its only electrical wiring from point to point.
KJ238 07-11-2006, 12:24 AM But have to admit it, the apex'i one looks sharpppp! But Freakin costly
clarencel 07-11-2006, 08:02 PM i assume Direct Power (Type Rotary) is a brand? where can i get it?
anyone tried Hot InaZma? what's the difference between the models LR, MR and Hyper?
Emperor 07-11-2006, 10:45 PM I sold away my hot inazma. I just like the look of the pivot one better.
clarencel 07-12-2006, 03:47 AM ok. Looks aside.
what are the difference between the different models of Pivot VS?
i saw in a mag there's VS-S (red), VS-V(gold), VS-1(blue)?
M-ster 07-12-2006, 05:26 AM ok. Looks aside.

wow clarence, you have been asking quite a bit of the VS by now... but you have really given any answer... I guess you would not really get a black and white answer either...
anyway, the different between the Piovt VS model, you can actually check up their website or speak with the retailers, i remember coming across the Pivot website before. e.g. the blue one is for basic stablizing the voltage, the red one more custom for Audio specific and gold one...(i dont know...)
I've seen 5ziger's special VS/earth just for the exhaust too... go figure out...
I dont think there are much ppl out there would actually go thru changing VS just to find out which really works better... (that's why you haven't been much luck with getting any response with the different makes)
Well i guess you've got to really ask yourself wat you wat out of the VS.
Unless you've got a super duper sound system which you want clear and undistorded signal from it, you will not really need the VS...
And if you think that 2-3 ponies the VS is gonna give your ride that extra boost... the weight of itself already robe it off.
But please go ahead if you want those nice thick guages wires running around in your enginee compartment...
I guess that's why Emperor change his VS just because Pivot 'LOOKS NICER'
I'm quite sure the VS has its function but its just too little a improvement for one to notice, IMO the VS is really more aesthetic then function....
clarencel 07-12-2006, 06:56 AM hahaha... thanks for being patience with me. I'm just new to car modding. Even simple gadgets like the VS puzzles me entirely. so u can expect more mundane queries from me along the way.
Anyway thanks again for responding to my queries.
Emperor 07-12-2006, 07:24 AM I think the Vs works to a certain extent. At least it really stabilises the voltage.
But what puzzles me is so many different versions for something so similar. blue, black, red, etc. Shouldn't they all work the same?
I do not sell vs or grounding cables; but whats the harm in installing something so cheap. So why not?
clarencel 07-12-2006, 07:49 AM i am as puzzled as u are. i guess when i can finally decide on one i'l let u know what's the results.
