You think Honda should bring this back?

sure, why not? we could always use another sporty honda/acura here in the states. But i wonder how that car would fit in the honda/acura lineup, i.e. price/performance bracket?

It would be great if they built it. Heck, I'd buy it if the price was around 15k (probably too optimistic) and hp was between 140-160 (like the engine in the civic si, possibly the rsx type s). As long as its inexpensive, fun to drive, and gets 30+ mpg they'd have my money.

I'm guessing they might bring this back just to compete with the Golf/GTI platform.

I thought the SiR model is only exclusive to Japan, isn't it? Even though the Civic Si is a hatchback I really don't see it competing with that platform for some reason.

I'm pretty good friends with the local honda dealership owner and he said Honda's been in the works of creating a new CRX. RSX body styling, REAR WHEEL DRIVE, possibly powered by the F20C.

They would sell alot of cars just because it is rear wheel drive.

I am not familiar with Honda engines, could someone please elaborate on what the F20C is (# of cylinders, HP, etc). Thanks.

I think it would be great if Honda brought back the CRX - but please make it look different from the RSX!

The F20C is the engine used in the S2000. dohc vtec, 4 Cylinder, 240 hp, tq is roughly 160-170ish?

that salesman is full of it... who the hell would make a "hatchback version" of one of the best Hondas going, the S2000, and give it a name which emblazed the hindquarters of everyone's favourite (now) ricemobile???

honestly, there would either be no price discrepency, meaning the CRX wouldn't sell, or you'd get S2000 straightline performance with a ricer appearance package for less WITH the additional practicality of like a trunk, stealing away S2000 sales and tarnishing the Honda's S2000 image further (as in: NOT a serious sports car maker... see: embracement of the Rice, represent).

F20C is the Honda S2000 engine.

I don't see Honda making a RWD CRX. That being said, a new CRX would be a great addition to the Honda line-up. Make it, fast, fun, inexpensive, LIGHT and give it good gas mileage. Make it the best-hadling FWD car out there, and young enthusiasts, who can't afford to buy RX-8's and Evos, will be lining up around the block for the CRX.

:HUGE GRIN:! my first car ever was a '87 Honda CRX...the POS had no power steering, door locks, or windows...i had a "nitrous boost" when i turned the AC off, it overheated at least once a week, and the battery died all the time...but it was red, real small so as to fit in tight spots, and really fun to drive...

if they bring it back, i doubt i'd buy one but the nostalgia is still there...kinda like my first IBM PS-1 386SX computer with 4 megs of ram and Windows 3.1...i'd never use it but i sure would love to see it again

I see two kinds of people buying a new CRX.

1. The largest group will be young enthusiasts in their late teens and early 20's who want a car that is fun to drive and handles like a sports car, but can't afford the average sports car. And no doubt they'll rice it out to the hilt.

2. The smaller group will be enthusiasts with families who need a second (or third) commuter car. They NEED an inexpensive car with good gas mileage. They WANT a car that is fun to drive, and they don't need the extra seats. This is the kind of person that would like to buy and Insight, but won't because the Insight is too expensive and slow.
