My uncle has a Toyota MR2 Spyder with 8000 miles, 3 scheduled oil changes were completed at the dealership.

The only aftermarket component was an oil pressure gage. The engine blew recently and Toyota is denying warranty repair due to the gage.

According to my uncle, the car never leaked oil and never overheated. The engine replacement amounts to roughly $4k. What do you guys think?

depends on how he attached the gauge and it is spelled gauge and if oil definitively leaked from the location of the sensor for the gauge causing seizure

go to a different dealer

Well looks like he will need a lawyer to sort this out. The only other thing to try is a call to Toyota corporate.

For an aftermarket part to void a warranty, that specific part or modifcation of a specific vehicle system must be outlined in the warranty. There is a federal law that outlines this but I can't remember what it is called.

Here is a link about that law. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/warranty.htm

The thing is if the dealer / Toyota will not change their mind he still will need an Lawyer. Your rights are only as good as your ability to fight for them.

how about you take the gauge off and go to another dealer.

also, come to think of it, how many years has it been since Toyota made an MR2 Spyder? did he get an extended warranty or something?
