Our Planned Route

During Feb 2005 a few of our members took a drive and planned the following route. We tried to incorporate as much as we could including some great roads to drive on, meet spots, and alittle scenery!

The day should be a fun one, members, feel free to invite guests/family to come along. We have had to cancel twice due to rain - hopefully third time will be lucky!

For questions please email info@rx8tristateclub.com

Hope to see you there!

I burnt my tranny, but I think I should be good to go on this.... I am pretty sure Ill have my car back, where can a New Yorker meet up with someone to go?

Irish_in_a_RX8

The starting point is at a place called Core Creek Park in Langhorne PA. Directions and times are on the club site. There are another few meet points too, but for NY folk, I'd say this would be a good spot. Its close to Turnpike and 95! If you unfamilar with the area, you should find it to be a great day trip. Plenty to do in the region and if your taking a guest/friend/wife etc along they should enjoy it too!

I cant say these roads are as curvy as we would like them to be, so its not really streching the limits of our RX-8's, however it will be a good drive.

Lets hope the weather works for us..

Nah, I'll skip the first race of the year so I can go. I am allowed to drop one event for points. Since I'll be getting a big fat zero for this one, I think I'll drop that :)

I'm a MAYBE, but I'll know for sure soon.

I dunno though, it's reeeeeeeally outa my way, lol...

I run those roads from Trenton north every day, especially up and around Bowman's Tower. Very pretty. Some are quite entertaining. The NJ portion is my snow route, which I unfortunately need to take in about 20 minutes. Hope the Pirelli Snowsports keep doing their good work ;)

If you can find a way, you MUST drive Wrightstown Road coming up off of 532 (turn onto 532 off Taylorsville, go up hill, first right). If not during the outing, just take a cruise. Those first few miles... oh my...

Irish_in_a_RX8
03-09-2005, 08:42 AM
HeelnToe : yeah, well dependant on who gets together on the day we could always take that route back. I have taken 532 a few times and enjoy the corners!

Will : Its been awhile, would be good to see you again!

Everyone : The weather is so unpredictable right now, the day may be tentative as well. Even if it turns out to be a chilly day, I am hoping for dry roads and blue skies! We should have a better idea by the middle of next week.

It is Sunday, and NONE may be coming. I cant believe the weather systems we are having. Theres a flood watch for Saturday/Sunday, so a decision will be made Friday night.

I am so sorry to everyone, but it makes sense to have a good day of weather, unless anyone disagrees?

I'm all for waiting for nice weather - or at least lack of flood watches, torrential rain, wind, etc., lol...

I THINK it's supposed to be better sunday versus saturday, but still rainy. River Road in Yardley was under water wednesday (I can honestly say I drove my RX-8 through the Delaware River)... I can only imagine what it'll be like along the river sunday when saturday's runoff comes down.

Calm calm. I always give benefit of the doubt when it comes to the weather in our area. I can honestly say this has NEVER happened!

An email has just gone out to confirm that the meet and drive will be canceled due to flooding in the area. The rain will stop over night, however 29 and River Road are not trust worthy. Locals of the area will especially understand.

This is frustrating - we spent a good day planning the trip, however it would be a real wash out if we went ahead. I am sure you all agree.

As always, please drop me an email if you get alittle too itchy :)

I hear that the Delaware is supposed to crest at 27 feet above normal height sometime around now, which is a horrifying statistic if the news was correct. I also have heard that half of Yardley is under water so that would mean we would have needed amphi-RX-8s to go ahead. I can't believe this weather!

Eventually, we will find a day to get together. Has to happen . . . right?

My friends and coworkers are now demanding we stop planning meets, lol... seems to being bad weather!

New Hope is supposed to crest around 1am, and be worse than the september flood. The "WaterWorks" condos (aptly named) just south of town are flooded. Main Street itself is supposed to flood over tonight. Yardley is already flooded. I'm guessing the free bridge is closed as it was before. State Of Emergencies are in place in both towns: you couldn't get into New Hope today if you tried ;)

It's really sad. After the september floods, if you cruised up either side of the Delaware, all you'd see is everyone's destroyed belongings out in the yard, being thrown out. You could see the high water mark on the cliffsides and walls... just unbelievable it got that high. And here we go again.

Finding a route to work tomorrow should be interesting...

The floods are pretty bad around here, and much worse than September. its quite sad really - all it took was a couple of inches of rain! It will be worth it in the end. sadly our princeton meet will be missed this year and the spring drive will take its place. Will reschedule for April 17th - sticking to the sunday....

04-03-2005, 05:16 PM
may i suggest a meet in another place in the tri-state which doesnt flood as much...maybe something a little more north? not too close to the water....or it could be had in a place real close to water that isnt flood prone?...i know when i owned my other car we had meets near bear mountain in a park called Harriman park....there are plenty of great curvy roads up there...also there is another place on the jersey side of the river at edgewater and you could have a great back drop of NYC...just of few random thoughts...

Irish_in_a_RX8
04-03-2005, 06:24 PM
Chrism - that is an idea yes, but I dont expect there to be more flooding in the near future. We have discovered in the past regardless of the meet place, when theres rain or snow, most folks do not want to risk taking out their 8's.

I am interested in edgewater idea - sounds awesome. Why dont you send me an email at wayne@rx8tristateclub.com..perhaps this could be another summer/fall meet.

Pat

I was kinda wondering the same thing today, as I pass through Yardley every day... and it really makes you feel bad for these people. One flood is a tragedy, but two within a year is just cruel.

Back when I had my eclipse, they used to organize a yearly get-together in Lahaska, basically a "car show" of sorts where everyone (all cars welcome) would park in the big grass field, they'd hold raffles, hand out prizes, etc. It drew a crowd, but more importantly encouraged donations to the charity (MS I believe) from the visiting tourists.

I guess we can't organize anything like that quickly enough to provide timely help for this cause, but perhaps keep it in mind for the future.

Its an all go for Sunday! The weather temp will be near 70!

the only thing on the day which will cause a problem will be the parking in New Hope. Its not the best, so we will all have to discuss perhaps a time to remeet later in the afternoon if get separated. Meanwhile, I'll see you all there close to 1pm. I'll be coming straight from tennis!

You don't want that to happen Wayne....trust me (and us). Shopping has to always come first, no matter what!, and that means hours and hours in the same store :p.

Chrism, you going to the meet? Wanna meet up at exit 11, as planned from last time?

Al

Hey Brian, Chrism and I are meeting up at a resting place at exit 11 on the NJTP around 1045-11 am. I'll be going from bklyn though, instead of queens (stupid verrazzano bridge...$9.00 *grumble*)

What's a good time to arrive at the park (Core Creek)? I assume we're *leaving* the park at 12:45, yes?

Are we gonna park again at Washington's Crossing, or just regoup and head north?

Just curious when/where the best photo op's will be...

Thanks for turning up today. Was alot of fun! I did not expect it to be that busy in New Hope, but none the less, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

I'll have our site updated in the next few days, so if you have any great photos to share, please send them in!

Good meeting everyone today and had a fun drive even with New Hope and the roads being packed... we'll see everyone at the next meet.

Wayne- got seperated form you all on the way to Isaac Newton's and stuck behind someone going 30mph all the way up 29, so ended up there a little late and stayed for a half hour or so and had a few drinks but never saw you and didn't have a number to call

I asked some people where core creek park was and they were like...uhhh I dunno. Idiots.

Those two 8's you saw parked...were they silver and red. Mine was the red. I went by havanna's but it looked like it got invaded by bikers, so my gf and I went over to the triumph brewery. The silver guy pulled up as soon as I did and I asked him if he was with you guys but he wasn't.

Not a problem Wayne, the afternoon was well worth it and Isaac Newton's had a great selection so it was worth it anyway since I was already down in the area. First thing I did after getting back home today was order a set of the clear corners after seeing how much better they look in person :)

Definately need to remember to wear some sunscreen next time though

Who needs sunscreen when we've been all hibernating for the past 6 months in cold weather!!! j/k I love the sun, the sun is my friend.....mmmmmm, sun :D

Had to pick up my gf, her mom and grandma. So had to take a detour, was thinking of taking the Lincoln (cuz it would throw me off to around 40th something st), but saw Holland was clear until the traffic jam was right inside of the exit.

Hhhmm....mods....definately need new rims and summer tires on NOW :p, along with some Tein S springs. The M3s started to act weird on hot weather

Thanks everyone, my wife and I had a GREAT time! I'll never get over looking in my rear view mirror and seeing 13 RX-8's behind me, lol. What a sight.

My apologies for seperating the group after leaving the restaurant . Last I saw, it looked like everyone pulled out OK... then suddenly we were 6, lol... I hope everyone and apparently went down 202 made out OK?

It was cool seeing everyone's reactions, especially in New Hope. Even the kid in the blue Evo (when we were heading down to the bridge) seemed amused, lol...

I've got some video... I'll edit it into something watchable and post it somewhere.

Sorry I couldn't make it, I really didn't have the money to burn to go all of the way to Penn. Also my tires are really bald and taking a chance of blowing them or sliding off the side of the road when riding isn't what I wanted to do.

LOL, sorry 'bout that... it wasn't our original plan, but was the only public lot still open. We were planning on taking everyone into those gravel lots on the right, but they were roped off (full). We know the parking lot attendant there, and begged and pleaded with him, lol, but he swore there just wasn't any more room for anyone. So up into the clouds we went ;)

Can you imagine: when I came through New Hope this morning, I saw not even one car on Main Street, and only one person walking their dog. Quite a contrast!
