Exclamation Pics Of My Custom Intake Part 2

I have posted my pictures of the intake before, but i have made a few changes, like the aluminum bracket underneath the plexi-glass, the air box has also been painted, it has been through alot, but it looks freakin cool I think.

here is my other link https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...lt+intake+pics
As you can see on this version, I dont have as many bolts holding the plexi-glass in place, and the aluminum bracket does not exist on my older design

The filter being used is a Blitz SUS filter. or similar. It is stainless steel mesh, has no oil in it to dirty up the MAF sensor, and only needs soap and water to clean. I just replaced my K+N included with the Rotary Extreme kit with the larger version of the Blitz SUS. I have yet to drive the car but I am sure it will perform better than the K+N.

I've heard that the stainless steel mesh filters like the Blitz unit are the worst on the market for filtering out dirt and debris.

Can anyone confirm this?

i might be wrong but does'nt the end of the filter cone kind block the intake flow of air? causing turbulence damaging performance?

That shouldn't be a problem, those kinds of filters flow very well (whether or not they FILTER well may be up for discussion).

If you look closely at the filter cap you see that it has a "ramp" that helps the air direct itself into the intake pipe. The Blitz SUS that I mentioned previously has the screened opening on the end-cap. In either case, the turbulence in that area isn't nearly as much a problem as you might think. The area to be concerned about is where the filter actually mounts on the pipe. The K+N filter and others like them have nothing more than a 90 degree corner on the mounting flange. This area is where the worst turbulence occurs. The weird thing is that K+N knows this because they were one of the first to offer a product for use on 4-BBL carbureted apps called the "Stub Stack". The Stub Stack functions to more smoothly direct the air flow around that bend and straight down the throat of the carb and is responsible for as much as a 25 h.p. gain in some uses on the street or strip. When I installed my SUS I had to fab an adapter to go from the 4.5" SUS down to the 3.5" intake pipe and the adapter ended up being a sort of "velocity stack" of its own. As such, I no longer have any of the noise or idle problems that I did when using the K+N that came with my Rotary Extreme intake system. I have re-removed the factory airbox and re-installed the R.E. set with the SUS and the car runs awesome, even in below-zero temps. To push in on the clutch while rolling results in a smooth 1,000 rpm idle, the car shows very little hesitation on acceleration anymore, and the throttle control is much better. The sound is much quieter, too. I would recommend this filter to anyone who has the problems I had with the K+N model.

now if only you could treat the OUTSIDE of your car with the same care as the engine bay, you'd have a great car.
