A manager from a mazda dealer close to me in Austin Tx told me today he got word that they will be receiving a demo car in a few weeks. The best part is when he said they are going to let people that pre-ordered take it home overnite! He thinks the demo will arrive in a few weeks. No exact date or type of demo, i.e. 6-spd, auto, sport, GT pkg, etc... I'll keep you posted !

My dealer is getting in on the same "dealer deal" but will be getting the car about the same time I should be getting mine (mid July). He did say if if mine hasn't come in yet he'll let me take it for an extended period. They have let me take multiple cars (they are 4 dealers in one) over night, but I doubt it with the 8.

what advantage would it do the dealer to let you take it home? we all (mostly) have preordered anyway, so we're getting the car. It seems the overnight thing would be good for people on the fence...

I'm also in Austin, TX, which dealer is it? Will they let non pre-orders test drive?

Haas here in Houston has invested in their own RX-8. (not a dealer stock car) to have onsite for people to test drive etc.. no word on borrowing it overnight... I assume that if you are gona go so far as to order a RX-8, and can't have it in your hands for 3-5 months .. .this may be a good way of solidifying the deal.

Makes sense to me, letting you whet your appetite so you don't pull your deposit.

My dealer told me the same thing a week ago. Said they would be getting a demo car in a few weeks - delivery will coincide with the dealership's "rotary training" for sales and service staff and that I would be his first call to drive and keep overnight if I wanted (since I am their #1 pre-order).
