Will the rx8 be remembered as the mum and dad car that helped pave the way for the sensational new rx7 which according to one australian car journalist will share the rx8 platform but wheelbasewill be approximately130mm shorter.According to this article mazda is developing a 220+ kw big blockvariant of the renesis ,.a widerotor modular renesis engine, possibly 1.6 litres a 300cc gain in capacityto the rx8. HMMMMMM it makes you wonder wheter its worth saving a few more bikkies ( money)for u americans and wait for the rx7???.According to this article the new rx7 is where the real party is going to beand at a blue collar competitive price .Anaturally aspirated rx7 with 220+kw with wider rotors thing of the poosibilities ???for the magic 300+kw.

DECISIONS?? DECISIONS ?? DECISIONS??

I'm buying the RX-8 because it has 4 seats, and some practicality.

(Rotary besides) theres plenty of high power/low weight 2 seater cars in the UK, a new RX-7 would have direct competition from several cars, and wouldnt be on my shopping list.

I hope the 8 does well enough for mazda to make the 7 , it'll be a great car, I'd guess 300bhp and 2800llbs or so.

Certainly, we're spoilt for choice in the UK. Maybe not so much further afield.

The RX-7 does sound tempting, but at the moment the RX-8 is going to be my "everday" car, and it wouldn't be practical to have another 2-seater. I have a TVR for my sports car, 2-seater speed thrills. Maybe in the future the RX-7 will replace that on my driveway, however i expect that the markets and potential buyers of the RX-8 and RX-7 are looking for different things.

The rx7 is the one you wanna date, the rx8 is the one you want to take home to momma. I'm ready to 'settle down' but still have a good time.

remembered? it's gotta be the 4 doors! If it flops in the market, it will be remembered for its 4 doors. If it's a success in the market, it will be remembered for...it's 4 doors!

It hasn't even arrived and we're already talking about how it will be remembered? Seems a little premature.

That being said, I hope it becomes a classic. The RX-7 is already a classic, and I think the Miata will be, so it would be nice if the 8 will also become a classic.

I have heard a lot of people say the problem with Wankel was that it was a 'gas guzzler'. It seems it was a bit of a stretch
to think RENESIS would defeat that reputation, but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the place for this car is city as opposed to long "roadies". a bit sad.
