There is a resturant called Quaker Steak and Lube on 49th st and U.S. 19 thursday night is import night there. We can come rolling in with our 8's and take it over. :D Just a thought. jwitzer 12-02-2004, 08:44 PM #4 here. cyber_drone 12-02-2004, 09:49 PM im a tampa resident, but a troll on the board. (mazda6 owner) greese 12-03-2004, 03:09 PM I'm here. Does that make me number 5 or 6? mysql101 12-03-2004, 03:18 PM u r 6 bigblockbeater 12-03-2004, 08:32 PM there's nothing wrong with the 6. there are plans for a turbo all wheel drive version in 05 or 06! cyber_drone 12-03-2004, 08:59 PM there's nothing wrong with the 6. there are plans for a turbo all wheel drive version in 05 or 06! yea its called the mazdaspeed6, and i dont have ANY problems with my car... I love it as much as the first day i got it. czr 12-03-2004, 11:27 PM yesss, lucky 7. And i think you meant to represent theTampa Bay Area not just Tampuh. Been using my sunroof every day to work.. nice. Saw an silver 8 MS kitted on the causeway going west while I was going east on Sunday. Anyone? Looked really tight on the move. bigblockbeater 12-04-2004, 10:18 AM usually on satuday nights i go to Gandy either at the Sonic on the Tampa side or just over the bridge on the St. Pete side. last weeked we had 4 generations of wankles all parked in a row. i would have taken a picture but my camera phone doesn't have a flash. i get there around 10pm (at the sonic first then over the bridge if it gets slow). if anyone decides to join me give me at call on your way to find out where i am. 813 495 2522 i like the idea Thetitanium8 had about crowding out the tuner crowd. lets do it any time we can. give a show of force. and do some recruting. if anyone can create fliers or at least something we could download and print that would be a good way of getting new members. i mentioned in another thread making chapters with i.d. cards. do any of my ideas sound worthy of trying? mysql101 12-04-2004, 10:22 AM if someone had posted about the rotary meet last weekend i would have shown up :( bigblockbeater 12-04-2004, 10:41 AM it wasn't a meet per say. they just showed up. a lot of street racers go there aka hondas but it was one of those days when there happened to be very gen of the 7 and one 8 show up. cyber_drone 12-05-2004, 03:36 PM so umm like, people other then ricers hang out around gandy on the weekend nights? dont mind me, i only have been in tampa for a few months and still dont know any places to go on the weekends. mysql101 12-05-2004, 05:26 PM i was there last night, met up with bigblockbeater... we were the only rx-8's around. The rest were mostly civics and eclipses. The rx-8 draws a lot of attention though eclps0 12-06-2004, 01:56 AM hey ya guys i was in tampa a couple of times i had to take felipes mom for an operation. jason i think i saw you i was at the red roof inn right off of the highway. there is ma mazda dealer right down the street. i was eating at carabbas ( i think that is how ya spell it) by the way i have a blue rx8 i beeped at an rx8 leaving the area and saw a silver one with teh mazda speed wing bigblockbeater 12-06-2004, 10:41 PM saturday nights just on the st pete side of the gandy bridge is a good place to hang out. the sherriff who has that beat is real cool. so long as we don't do anything stupid (we being the fast and furious wannabe's). JasonHamilton's 8 is killer. he has the wing i want! Jason is right about these 8's turning heads! it was nice being the only one out there but it would be much better to have a gang representing. cyber_drone 12-09-2004, 05:59 PM see, the only problem i have now is... everyone thinks i want to race...and i drive VERY calm. I dont need the "attention" or the need to turn heads. I think im getting old. bigblockbeater 12-09-2004, 07:23 PM that's funny, the very reason i got the 8 was to turn heads cyber_drone 12-09-2004, 08:35 PM ...and nothing wrong with that. I 'personally" dont want the attention. I like to pass through life un-noticed when I can. GETZ 12-10-2004, 08:27 PM Good. I wanted to be #8 anyway. Representing the Bay area from Dade City. This is my 1st post on the RX-8 forum coming from the MX-6 forum. I just moved into my new black 8 from an MX-6 four months ago. MUCH nicer ride. Where does everyone meet usually? bigblockbeater 12-10-2004, 09:11 PM welcome to the club, getz. we have been trying to decide where to meet. i usually go to south tampa on Gandy blvd. on saturday nights. there is a sonic there where the ricers meet up. a couple mazda's show up sometimes. rx-7s too. usually start around 22:00hrs. Mantis 12-11-2004, 09:50 AM Meet tonight at Sonic? was there last night with a bunch of MX-5s. will stop by tonight at 10ish. bigblockbeater 12-11-2004, 05:25 PM Mantis, see ya there. cyber_drone 12-11-2004, 07:16 PM I am tempted to just drive by. Mantis 12-11-2004, 09:18 PM Well commitment is difficult cyber, but acceptance is the first step. Not too interested in the high schoolers at the Gandy myself. Is this the closest thing so far to a Tampa RX-8 group? We will be there to eat not race, I will leave that up to the domestics. I have had my RX-8 for a month and am still learning its boundaries and am looking for a few good parking lots. I will see if I can get our MX-5 out too. I am the Green RX-8 and the MX-5 is met black with kit if I can get him to drive. Those kids try him so hard in his car. cyber_drone 12-11-2004, 09:31 PM Well... I think im going to stay in tonight.. When the woman gets back into town I might take her out to sonic one night :) mysql101 12-11-2004, 09:34 PM same here, not going out tonight. We should instead discuss a real rx-8 meetup. cyber_drone 12-11-2004, 09:52 PM I agree. How about we find a nice park..someplace that we can have a senic drive too. mysql101 12-11-2004, 09:55 PM watch out, the rx-8 can set grass on fire, even if the grass is wet. last thing we want is a dozen rx-8s in flames. :) cyber_drone 12-11-2004, 10:08 PM lmao... you guys sit that low to the ground? jwitzer 12-11-2004, 10:53 PM I'm in if we can get a fun place to meet. Phillipe Park on the bay near the Countryside Mall is one place. Downtown Tampa near ChannelSide is another. Neither is automotive-centric, but decent places to meet. So is Rocky Point where the Courtney Campbell Causway hits Tampa near the airport. I'm in Brandon, so anywhere across the middle of the Hillsborough/Pinellas area is cool with me. JerryLH3 12-11-2004, 11:16 PM Philippe Park is a great location. I organized a road rally that ended there with a BBQ this past summer. If you plan ahead, you can reserve a pavillion for free, otherwise, you just have to hope it's somewhat empty. I might have the number handy if I dig through some paperwork. Just ask if you think you might want it. It'd be less work than having to ask or look for it yourself. :) bigblockbeater 12-12-2004, 06:10 PM where is Phillipe Park? how is the layout and the lighting? it would be nice to find a place that would allow is to gather. last night at the sonic someone ordered $60 in food and left. the manager called to police and we had to leave. i know all of you are more mature then that and anywhere we go we would easily earn the respect of the owner/operator/manager. i live near busch gardens so anywere we decide will be a bit of a drive but i am more then willing to drive it. i look forward to meeting and befriending all of you in the future. JerryLH3 12-12-2004, 10:27 PM Phiippe Park is in Safety Harbor, right on Tampa Bay. They close at sunset, thus there is no lighting. It'd be more of a daytime hangout for a picnic/BBQ or lounging around. Jerry bigblockbeater 12-13-2004, 03:14 PM safety harbor sounds like a good idea to me. it is in pinnellas county. if that would be alright with everyone here. i know some of us live a bit of a drive from there. please let us know if you are not ok with that location. i would love to get everyone involved. Navkam2004 12-13-2004, 05:25 PM you got number nine right here, i'm in north tampa on bbd bigblockbeater 12-13-2004, 05:43 PM Nav, you don't live very far from me. i am near busch gardens. across the street from the Hillsborough river. bigblockbeater 12-15-2004, 11:38 AM well, if there are no objections to Phillipe Park then i say lets do it. i will bring the charcoal! does the park have grills? Jerry, could you reserve a spot for us? how does 2pm sound? everybody let us know if you are coming and what you are bringing. czr 12-15-2004, 03:03 PM Now is not the best time for me because of the holidays. Sometime in Jan or Feb would be good. cyber_drone 12-15-2004, 09:07 PM umm.. add me to the list...but we should give everyone some time to plan for this.... or just get a small group going for a pre-gathering :) JerryLH3 12-15-2004, 09:26 PM I'd at least wait until after Christmas and New Year's. I know this Saturday is bad for me too, I have to help bake Christmas cookies. :D Jerry bigblockbeater 12-16-2004, 05:20 PM well alright, we can wait untill after the holidays for a day meet. if any of you want i go to sonic on gandy blvd in south tampa. see ya there jwitzer 12-16-2004, 08:57 PM Friends, I have a problem and I'm not quite sure how to handle it, so I thought I'd see if any of you have any ideas. My leased 2004 RX-8 came with a single CD player, but I wanted the 6-disk in-dash unit, so I ordered one, along with several other upgrades, when I took posession of the car and had it installed a week later when the parts came in. It worked fine and took and played 6 disks all the time. When I ordered my 2005 RX-8, I didn't order the 6-disk because I was going to use the one from my 2004. So I pulled (actually my car phone installer pulled) the 6-disk out of the 2004, replaced the single disk, and waited for Ferman on Florida to find a car to my liking. In the meantime, I realized that I had left 4 disks in my player, so I had Ferman power up and remove the 4 disks and run a systems check on the 6-disk player. Everything worked fine and by the time I got back to them to pick up the disks and player, my 2005 arrived and already had a 6 disk player, into which the service manager had already placed my 4 cds. So I figured I'd sell the 6-disk unit which was returned to me with a clean bill of health. Well, the unit sold to a local RX-8 owner (which I preferred - even turning down higher offers out of town). We even met at Ferman, since it was a mutually familiar landmark. While there, I asked one of the service consultants who had helped check the player and retrieve my disks to verify that the unit was working properly, which he did for the buyer's piece of mind. But the buyer called me later in the day to say that the unit wasn't taking more then one cd. I told him to go down to Ferman, talk to Mario, the service manager who had taken care of my RX-7 for years (so I trust him), and ask him for installation help. The buyer called me back and claimed that I had sold him a single-disk player. Of course, I hadn't, so I contacted Mario to see if the buyer had even gone to see him and to see if there had been some installation issue. The buyer had been there, with a single disk unit in the dash and another single disk unit in his hand. I know I gave him my unit. I know it was a 6-disk unit. He showed up at the dealer with two single disk players. The buyer seemed like a decent guy, so I don't want to think that he's trying to keep my 6-disk AND get his money back by dumping an old single disk player on me and claiming its the unit I gave him, but I can't think of any other explanaition. Any ideas on how to rectify the situation? I want this guy to have a working 6-disk, in-dash unit like he paid for (and I gave him), but he seems to be implying that I ripped him off. I do have the serial number of the unit I gave him. Would simply requiring him to verify the serial number on the unit he returns back to me before I return any money be sufficient? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice! bigblockbeater 12-16-2004, 09:11 PM interesting situation. check the numbers for sure. both in mazda computer and on the radio. make sure if that is the radio you sold him. and make sure the radio you sold him was a 6 disker. mysql101 12-16-2004, 10:12 PM The big question is, when did you write down the serial? And can you be sure that the serial you wrote down is from a 6 disk changer? It's possible there were more than one cd changer at Ferman and it might have been swapped on accident. So I'm not sure how much the serial could help. Also, unless you validated with the buyer that the serial you have written down is also the serial of the unit he got, the serial number (even from a 6 disk changer) might not mean much to him. The 6 disk and the single disk units look the same, as far as I know, so they would be very easy to confuse. Also, how did you validate that the buyer's two single disk changers were actually single disk? jwitzer 12-16-2004, 11:52 PM Jason, I have the serial number from the original packaging that the 6-disk was delivered in, and I've had both the packaging and the unit side-by-side, so I know it's the right one. I think that if the unit he has doesn't match the numbers, then maybe he has 3 players, two single and one 6-disk (mine), and accidentally brought in the two singles. I just don't want to be duped into him starting with two singles and ending with one single and one 6-disk and his money back. Then I've gone from a 6-disk to a single without coverage for the loss. The service guys at Ferman verified that the two units the buyer brought in were single disk. I trust them to know the difference. mysql101 12-17-2004, 12:00 AM As long as you are sure the unit you handed to him has a serial number that matches up with the 6 disk packaging, then you definately gave him what he paid for. All you can do is ask him to read back the serial numbers off the units he has and see if they match. If they do match, then you're good to go, if not, then this guy is fucking with you. I have a single disk lying around from when I installed the MP3 player, if he has a friend with an RX-8 it would be easy for him to play games. czr 01-21-2005, 10:12 PM Bump, what's been going on Tampa Bay people? I think the role call stopped at 9 and I know we at least have 25 or so. rx7superman 01-23-2005, 06:48 PM hi all, just wanted to know when the next meet will be.... im in the tampa area..... RotoZezaCane 01-24-2005, 08:48 PM Wheres the next meet?Like to see the X's in Tampa cyber_drone 01-24-2005, 09:17 PM everyone wants to "meet" but no one is interested in getting the place and date set. I am just a MZ6 owner :-\ JerryLH3 01-24-2005, 09:28 PM And I'm just an RX-7 owner. The first two weekends of February are pretty busy. February 4th-6th is the Rolex 24 at Daytona Weekend February 11th-13th is the NoPistons.com Winter Retreat There will be an RX-8 in the actual 24 Hour race in the GT class. It's the first time since 2002 that a rotary was in the main event. It's a tube frame car with a peripheral port 20B, so not much resemblance to a stock RX-8 other than the body. Speed Source should also be there with there RX-8s for the Grand Am Cup ST class. I'll be there covering for RX Tuner. |
