View Full Version : Do you just let your gas cap dangle?

I can't figure out where to hook the gas cap while filling up. It basically has to dangle and touch the rear quarter panel while I fill up. All my other cars have/had a holder of some sort. Am I missing something very obvious? Any aftermarket contraptions for this issue?

Simply take your gaz cap and cross over the nozze of the gaz pumple.
See picture, hope this help....

My 2 cents

i removed the plastic thing that holds the cap. so I remove the cap, place it on top of the fuel pump, pump with gas, then screw it back on.

Otherwise the lid dangles and will scratch up the paint.

That's a good one Jason. I think I'll do that. On my old car I used the cap to pump the gas for me.

i have a real bad memory, I will probably forget the gas cap if i did that. Not a real big issue for me tho.

Yeah, great idea provided you do forget on top of the pump! Happened to me once and had to splurge another $25 to get a replacement.

I would never forget it. It's clockwork, first you hang up the pump, then you screw on the cap, then you close the lid.

Why not use the hook?

it's been discussed before. Many use the hook method ^^^^^^

At least you guys have an attachment which allows the cap to dangle..... we don't get that here in Australia. :(

Just goto Home Depot, Lowes, or some other hardware store, get a hook with the sticky back anstick it on the gas door. Then hang the gas cap cord over it keeping it away from the car/paint. NO TOUCHY!!!!!!!!!! :D

Either you don't care about your car very much or you have enough money to fix little things, or......

Im_DANomite

or i don't worry about little things like this. but i don't let the gas cap hang either. there is enough room for the gas cap to sit in front of the fill hole. or throw it over the gas pump while you're filling. get creative!

i just don't understand why people post these kind of topics. just like the closing the trunk thread. i didn't think closing the trunk was rocket science. why not post something like "i engineered my own gas cap holding mechanism". i'm not bashing you guys for your enthusiasm over our cars, but you must be really bored.

i'm addicted to my 8. as of right now, i have swapped cars with a friend of mine. he has taken my 8 and i have taken his M3. who should be more worried?? definately me. why do you think i'm on this board?? cause i love my car. but all in all, i don't worry about the little things.

that's awesome, just the answer I was looking for. :D Its not that were worried about little things, were all here looking for information no mater how little, it may not be little for some people ;)

Dan, I started this thread because I thought I was missing a clip of some sort or thought there was a better way to place it using what was already there as opposed to letting it dangle. All y other cars had some kind of holder.

Sorry I'm as "creative" as you. ;) I'll be carefull not to start such silly threads in the future, my man.

Alternatively, if a post doesn't interest you, don't bother reading it or responding to it.

yes, i understand. i thought of the same thing when i first got the car. spent almost 5 mins. just staring at the lid wondering how it was supposed to hold the cap. mazda engineers spent too much time on rotarizing everything that they forgot to put in some effort on the daily features. my friends always ask me why my gas lid sounds like a tin can...

haha...i'm not "creative". more like "eh, i'll just lay it here so it won't scratch the car" type of guy. :D

honestly i apologize for posting. i went against my own rule of not reading or replying to posts that don't interest me. but there are SO many of them on this board, it makes me wonder at times.

Jenkins, he's going to see the new movie with Keanu reeves "Constantine" at midnight. So he thinks we are old farts sitting at home on the internet while he's going out.

Dan, when you get back from the film, tell us if it was worth it or a bust!

Hey I like that better than the "built-in clip", more out of the way so won't interfere with the pump handle.

I used this mini hook made by 3m (17006HSK). It's a small clear plastic hook I found at Target that attaches with included double-stick tape.

jenkins-crew
02-21-2005, 11:45 AM
that works too, any will, that attaches to the inside lid.

Jenkins, I like your idea because if the glue ever gives out, it will still stay in place given the metal surrounding bars. Only one thing that dissapoints me about what you did; you didn't paint it sunlight silver! J/K
