View Full Version : Do you just let your gas cap dangle?
Shamblerock 11-24-2004, 11:01 AM I can't figure out where to hook the gas cap while filling up. It basically has to dangle and touch the rear quarter panel while I fill up. All my other cars have/had a holder of some sort. Am I missing something very obvious? Any aftermarket contraptions for this issue?
It's been an issue buddy! Lookie!

Shamblerock 11-24-2004, 11:29 AM Thanks CZR. Nice of you to attach the link. I think that solution will do for me.
SilverBullitt 11-24-2004, 12:21 PM Simple a FREE!!!!
Simply take your gaz cap and cross over the nozze of the gaz pumple.
See picture, hope this help....
My 2 cents
Simon.
mysql101 11-24-2004, 12:31 PM i removed the plastic thing that holds the cap. so I remove the cap, place it on top of the fuel pump, pump with gas, then screw it back on.
Otherwise the lid dangles and will scratch up the paint.

That's a good one Jason. I think I'll do that. On my old car I used the cap to pump the gas for me.
IZoomZoomI 11-24-2004, 12:44 PM i have a real bad memory, I will probably forget the gas cap if i did that. Not a real big issue for me tho.
Shamblerock 11-24-2004, 12:44 PM Yeah, great idea provided you do forget on top of the pump! Happened to me once and had to splurge another $25 to get a replacement.
mysql101 11-24-2004, 12:48 PM I would never forget it. It's clockwork, first you hang up the pump, then you screw on the cap, then you close the lid.
2ks2k 11-24-2004, 12:51 PM Why not use the hook?
blksf8 11-24-2004, 03:43 PM it's been discussed before. Many use the hook method ^^^^^^
Rob Tomlin 11-25-2004, 01:20 AM Why not use the hook?
Ahhhhh..............
RXE16T 11-25-2004, 03:14 AM At least you guys have an attachment which allows the cap to dangle..... we don't get that here in Australia. :(
jenkins-crew 11-29-2004, 06:01 PM Just goto Home Depot, Lowes, or some other hardware store, get a hook with the sticky back anstick it on the gas door. Then hang the gas cap cord over it keeping it away from the car/paint. NO TOUCHY!!!!!!!!!! :D

Thats it.
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 03:20 PM Go buy Target and get a magnetic hook and sticj it on the inside fuel lid, it works great!!!!
grapes 02-18-2005, 05:54 PM i just let it dangle-
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 06:11 PM "ouch!!!!" :(
Im_DANomite 02-18-2005, 06:31 PM i don't worry about little things like this.
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 06:40 PM Either you don't care about your car very much or you have enough money to fix little things, or......
Im_DANomite 02-18-2005, 07:28 PM or i don't worry about little things like this. but i don't let the gas cap hang either. there is enough room for the gas cap to sit in front of the fill hole. or throw it over the gas pump while you're filling. get creative!
i just don't understand why people post these kind of topics. just like the closing the trunk thread. i didn't think closing the trunk was rocket science. why not post something like "i engineered my own gas cap holding mechanism". i'm not bashing you guys for your enthusiasm over our cars, but you must be really bored.
i'm addicted to my 8. as of right now, i have swapped cars with a friend of mine. he has taken my 8 and i have taken his M3. who should be more worried?? definately me. why do you think i'm on this board?? cause i love my car. but all in all, i don't worry about the little things.
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 07:51 PM that's awesome, just the answer I was looking for. :D Its not that were worried about little things, were all here looking for information no mater how little, it may not be little for some people ;)
Shamblerock 02-18-2005, 08:09 PM Dan, I started this thread because I thought I was missing a clip of some sort or thought there was a better way to place it using what was already there as opposed to letting it dangle. All y other cars had some kind of holder.
Sorry I'm as "creative" as you. ;) I'll be carefull not to start such silly threads in the future, my man.
Alternatively, if a post doesn't interest you, don't bother reading it or responding to it.

yes, i understand. i thought of the same thing when i first got the car. spent almost 5 mins. just staring at the lid wondering how it was supposed to hold the cap. mazda engineers spent too much time on rotarizing everything that they forgot to put in some effort on the daily features. my friends always ask me why my gas lid sounds like a tin can...
haha...i'm not "creative". more like "eh, i'll just lay it here so it won't scratch the car" type of guy. :D
honestly i apologize for posting. i went against my own rule of not reading or replying to posts that don't interest me. but there are SO many of them on this board, it makes me wonder at times.
Shamblerock 02-18-2005, 08:34 PM Hey, we're all just having fun on a Friday night.
Peace out.
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 08:50 PM yeah at home :D
Im_DANomite 02-18-2005, 09:01 PM constantine @ 12 for me...catch y'all grandpas later :D
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 09:18 PM ??????? i'm 23.
Shamblerock 02-18-2005, 10:06 PM Jenkins, he's going to see the new movie with Keanu reeves "Constantine" at midnight. So he thinks we are old farts sitting at home on the internet while he's going out.
Dan, when you get back from the film, tell us if it was worth it or a bust!
jenkins-crew 02-18-2005, 10:13 PM LOL...I figured it out when the trailer came on TV, I was like duh! Yes, let us know if we should pay to see it or not!
Paul_in_DC 02-19-2005, 09:09 AM See pic
jenkins-crew 02-19-2005, 09:29 AM you know all that is, is the "spring" that pops the lid open.........
Paul_in_DC 02-19-2005, 12:17 PM Yup. Works like a champ.
jenkins-crew 02-19-2005, 05:32 PM I will have to take a pic of mine.
jenkins-crew 02-20-2005, 10:21 AM Here we go, out of the way and off the paint!
Paul_in_DC 02-21-2005, 10:43 AM Looks great. Hmmm, ponder ponder ponder...
Here we go, out of the way and off the paint!
Hey I like that better than the "built-in clip", more out of the way so won't interfere with the pump handle.
TheDosDog 02-21-2005, 11:37 AM I used this mini hook made by 3m (17006HSK). It's a small clear plastic hook I found at Target that attaches with included double-stick tape.
jenkins-crew 02-21-2005, 11:45 AM that works too, any will, that attaches to the inside lid.
Shamblerock 02-21-2005, 12:08 PM Here we go, out of the way and off the paint!
Jenkins, I like your idea because if the glue ever gives out, it will still stay in place given the metal surrounding bars. Only one thing that dissapoints me about what you did; you didn't paint it sunlight silver! J/K
jenkins-crew 02-21-2005, 12:15 PM LOL, yeah I need to paint it :)
