Its really hard to deny the quality of BMW's interior. And now that the 5 series is gonna have the i-drive, it just got a whole lot sweeter.
VWjet 05-14-2003, 08:15 AM In my opinion, the headlamps and taillamps are hideous. The exterior styling has started a downward spiral at BMW since the redesigned 7-series was introduced. I think the look of the current 3- and 5-series is classic and is absolutely beautiful. At least the interior wasn't changed, as that is the best automotive interior in my opinion!
MRocks 05-14-2003, 08:19 AM It needs to trim it's eyebrows!
joofntool 05-14-2003, 08:22 AM a mod wanna move this to automotive plz?

joofntool 05-14-2003, 10:36 AM quik question when i posted this thread up till a little while ago the pics were embeded and visable within the thread.......
now all the sudden they are hyperlinks?
Lensman 05-14-2003, 01:05 PM Hideous and bloated. The rear is vaguely similar to the Rover 75 and the interior looks like a Jaguar as made by Subaru. Yuk!

Not that I know anything of any value - but my best guess is that the hyperlink takes up a lot less space on the RX-8 server.
...Plus I believe that when anyone posts someone's pic that's not their own from an other site that's hosting the pic (not personal, but comercial), that if the pic is moved or removed ... it gums up the works even more ... and a wild guess might also be do to some copywrite courtesy over reproducing an image with out approval ...
Hey, if anyone was the right answer please tell!
wakeech 05-14-2003, 01:33 PM man oh man... i was willing to give him a break on the Z4, and try and like it, but he obviously has no taste at all... and apparently all VPs at bay-em-vay are all freakin' blind...
anyways, the interior is vanilla as always, and considering i've never seen a 5 that i liked, it doesn't seem that i ever will... :p
rotarynews.com 05-14-2003, 01:50 PM Autoweek did this comparison:

omfg... SIGNED!!
here's what i said:
As an objective observer of automotive design, Mr. Bangle is trying his very best to "shake-up" (as so many have put it) the current trends in style. Although i do really appreciate, and even like, some of the cues which recurr in the Z4 and now the new 5 Series, the overall aesthetic appeal of these cars is almost in the negative range: these cars will be looked back upon as "quirky", which is as positive a spin as anyone can put on something that blatantly ugly. Please, please, a thousand times please, get this man some glasses, and an assistant whose job would be secure when he dishes out considerable criticism over Chris' latest "quirky" touches on your classy cars. Being set apart from the pack is one thing; being set apart from the pack for a good reason is entirely different.
TiRX8 05-14-2003, 08:58 PM I was about buy a BMW until I saw what that mad man did with the designs. I have a 540i right now and it's beautiful compared to this new piece of shit. I am so glad I found the RX-8! :p
MRocks 05-14-2003, 09:33 PM I read that sales for the 7-Series are down big time since they introduced the new model and that they are even redesigning it already! Does anyone have any new info on that?
Schneegz 05-14-2003, 11:25 PM It looks like they're trying to immitate the new Accord, which is NOT a good direction to go.

BMW tried to say that the new 7 initially sold better than the last days of the outgoing model - but then it's common sense that nobody would be buying an outgoing model when the new one is a few months away. Last quarter the new 7 series sold about half as many units as the (about to be replaced) S-class Merc...
In the last few months of the 2002 model year being on sale the lease price dropped from$1300 per month to under $800 per month (see autospies.com archives) to shift vehicles and make room for the 2003 models.
After less than two years on sale a 'fresh look' for the car will be available by early 2004 (sadly designed by Bungle again).
Having driven the 745i at a BMW event I can say the car is superb - the looks really hurt an otherwise wonderful product. The new 5 series doesn't look as bad, but doesn't look good either - just bland.
MRocks 05-15-2003, 03:49 PM I can't wait to see what the redesigned 7 is gonna look like! The new 5 isn't that bad. I like the taillights to an extent and the front looks a little aggressive but the wings protruding from the headlights have got to go.
