Okay I finally decided to take the car up to the limit to hear the alarm. Well I got it up there, the fuel cut off (I think, it was kinda like a bump, not really hitting the wall like someone else described it and began to lose power/acceleration, I took my foot off the accelerator as soon as it cut off). My Cd was not playing that loud, why didn't I hear the alarm? is it a buzzer? chime? very quiet? I thought I'd ask before I try it again so I know what to listen for. TIA oh by the way I was watching the rpms and it was at about 9500 rpms (about half way through the solid redline).

its a beep beep sound, very soft.
next time turn off the cd player, colse the windows and listen.

I think it actually beeps at 8500rpms in preparation of a 9K gear shift, doesn't it?

Okay, I'm gonna get techo on ya now......The over-rev alarm goes off @ 8500rpm in a High Power car, and 7300rpm in a Standard Power. It is a 1500Hz constant tone generated by a piezo buzzer located inside the instrument cluster. When the buzzer activates for an over-rev condition, it outputs a 75db signal. (This is a level equivalent to someone talking loudly, nearby). When the buzzer operates for headlight warning, lights-on reminder, etc......it does so at 67.5db (normal conversation).

interesting, thanks for the scientific answer. :D I'll try it again, seems like I should've heard it. If I don't, do you think I should tell the dealer??? :D I'd hate to have them drive the hell out of it testing it.

I think you should either get someone to be with you first

There should be a chimp that could be heard from the passenger seat. It is not loud and can be missed.

If you have seen the Top Gear video - you will have heard what it is suppose to sound like.

If this fails => go to the dealer.

If the dealer can hear it => go to audiology clinics :D

Try listening for it with the windows up and the music off..... it's subtle, but the beep is definitely there.

Okay I heard it !!!! It was pretty damn quiet. What kind of alarm is that? lol.. that damn woman is like yelling at the top of her lungs.... "make a legal u-turn when possible"-nav... but the alarm for the engine is like a whisper, strange. (yeah I know you can turn the lady's voice down/off, it's really not fair. I wonder why it's a lady's voice, is it because us women are better at directions? Seems like there should be a choice of voices. :D

That's the only bad thing about having such a great car, the noise it makes at 9500 rpm isn't much different than 7000. I still love this car. :D

Try hearing the beeper with a catback at full roar@9K rpms...... what beep? :p

You need a ride in my 1st gen... first time I heard it I was driving with the windows rolled up, I thought someone was honking at me :p
