Spotted a pearl white eight at Hong Lim during lunch hour. It looks much better in real life than in pics. Simply gorgeous. Only PIs bring in the white right?

No workshop can beat factory paint, it'd never b as good. Besides i doubt anybody wld want to tear apart their new ride just for a new colour!

Cept for mayb those hideous titanium silver altis', camrys & sonatas...heh for some reason, they just look really bad in that colour :D

workshop also not that bad....the reason why factory paint seem better is cos of the baking..... but at least workshop can assure no orange peel effect...

Not really true... there are some very good paint shops around, but of course very expensive and you need to book for weeks in advance. Factory paint nowadays all seem to have that orange peel and some people even respray their cars just to remove that effect. You don't have to tear apart the entire car if you are respraying the same colour. :)

Sorry to say, me think most (all?) workshops could outdo the factory paint.

Our RXs are so thinly painted - it scratches way too easily. Also, the boot well isn't painted - amongst other spots.

Apparently it has to do with the chemical composition of the paint - car plants have to comply with stricter environmental standards (unlike 'after-market paints', much like the other after market products - it's simply better). This in turn leads to 'inferior' paint. Notice how older cars had better factory paint? It's really that - better paint.

There's already a thread - apparently not.

I also heard the retractable set is not small - unlike the Merc set for e.g.

i just bought a new pearl white rx 8! The aero flares on the rear and sides and the front air dam seem to be bright yellow. The paint is peeling off , it had 6 miles on it when I pulled it off the show room floor. Nine days later is when the paint started peeling off. The body shop at the dealership said that it was a defect, I don't beleive them. I think that it came off of a 04 yellow car that they discontiune. What do you guys thinK?

I believe the appearance package in White is not only harder to obtain, but more expensive as well.

Sounds to me like the dealer took his existing stock and did a cheap respray on them.

Take it back and complain!

woot2, the problem is not so much to convert or not... but rather where to get the key and how to get it coded for your car. To me, the key isn't as important as a good security alarm system. When I read the manual, I discovered that the MM car's remote keyless entry system does NOT come with a security alarm. It only has the immobilizer which means thieves can break into our cars and steal the cashcard and/or other stuff without fear since no alarm will sound!! Moreover, insurance does not cover theft of belongings in the car. Can't install after market alarm systems without risk of voiding the warranty summore!!! I think it's really unfair to get a car without an alarm system and possibly void the car's warranty if you install an after market alarm system. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'm opting for the lesser of the two evils.... just make sure to find a reliable installer who has experience with the 8 and do a good job. Any bros to share their 2cts?
