Hey guys,

Has anyone actually seen the navigation software being used in the upcoming RX-8 navigation unit? Is it one of the better programs in the market, and if not, would there be the ability to use a different software/DVD to run a better program?

Thanks,
Wizard

Since auto Nav devices are still so proprietary, it's highly improbable that you will be able to use different software on a particular system.

As far as quality, I can say that they aren't using a bottom-end cheapo version. It costs $2k because they are using a decent setup.

Saw this in another thread. You can see an online demo of the Nav system on the Mazda official web site. On the RX-8 web, click on "Innovations" and then on Nav, you can take an online tour with screen shots and audio.

yeah, that tour makes it look like junk lol, i raelly wish we could have gotten the japanese version...but oh well

as long as its effective navigation (ie fast and accurent w/ nearly instant, or very quick, re-routing) and a BIG data base of POI (points of interest, itll do until we can get a new unit a year or however many down the rad, or you could replace the entire thing, but then id just be pissed

I guess we're all expecting more, let's just hope it does it's job as a navi because I read an article in a recent issue of Car and Driver where the Navi was sending the reviewer in all the wrong directions in the Lexus RX330. Let's hope the RX-8 navi doesn't do that.

Oh btw I was hoping the navi would've also been able to display car stats, tire pressures - etc etc on it. Oh well.

thats probably because the lexus nav needs to be updated, road-wise.
