Hi fellow RX-8ers,

I was wondering if anyone knew whether the center pass thru in the rear seats will accomodate two pairs of skis. In looking at the press kit it's hard to tell how far down the pass thru goes or whether there will even be enough room lengthwise to fit a set of 190 cm skis.

I figured I'd start a discussion for the Great White North that doesn't involve Hockey.. especialy since the Leafs are out!

There is a great pic on this site, it should fit a set of skis, maybe 2.

Now what would be really cool would be the ski bag you get in Bimmers. It extends to the front of the car. Keeps it free of snow!

Here you are. If I see this right it should fit two pairs of skis. Cheers, Maverikk.

Thanks Maverikk!

I guess that ski bag is an accessory they're selling in Japan. Personally, I don't need a Mazda-badged ski bag, I just want to be able to get my skis in the car without dripping all over the interior! Since that bag is a 200 cm bag, my 190s should have no problem.

Great !

I was thinking about using my own ski bag for this but maybe I'll get this too.... I'll see how much the dealer is going to charge first.

hey Sharky, which part TO are you from ?

Hey Smoker,

I'm a downtown guy actually. I live next to Gretzky's (his restaurant not his home!)

I've noticed a few other members of the forum from Toronto as well. I guess I won't be the only one driving the 8 around TO!

Cheers,

oh, Blue Jays Way eh ? I got it.

Yea, hopefully we can get as many of the RX-8 owners on this forum as possible. Start a small RX-8 community for toronto so we can get some group deals and stuff.

What business do Toronto people have worrying about a ski pass through? You are a good 3 days drive away from decent skiing. If I were you I'd save the extra space for some SARS masks.:D

I'm not sure how a rear wheel drive roadster will handle as a ski car. Winter driving is the one thing that is keeping me from making a final decision on whether or not to put a deposit down on this car.

hello notsobigetc and welcome to the forum. you seem to have a different definition of roadster than i do? ;)

I'll be the first to admit that skiing in Ontario blows. That said, it hasn't stopped me from heading up to the tiny hills we do have for some winter fun. I'm not too worried about the car in snow after seeing a video on here somewhere of the car booting around pretty good in the white stuff without any problems.

As far as SARS is concerned, I have about as much chance of contracting it as you have of contracting MAD COW! (ie. Slim to None):D

Touche on the Mad Cow Sharky. Have fun on the Slopes.

Zoom - we do have different definitions. I was refering to a generic rear wheel drive sports car like the rx8. And thanks for the welcome.:D

Touche! however there is nothing generic about this car and i will let others dissuade you from your notion of roadsters:cool:

Roadster usually means a convertible sports car - the Miata is the best example on the market these days. Fixed roof cars like the RX-8, no matter how sporty, ain't roadsters! :D

With real winter tires, the RX-8 should do just fine in winter conditions, until the snow is too deep for the ground clearance. I fully intend to use an RX-8 for skiing, but will be buying a separate set of wheels with winter tires on it. The traction/stability control should also be a big help!

Gordon

Hopefully my 152' Snowboard can fit through there :(.

I seriously doubt a 152' snowboard will fit. Maybe you should get a smaller one.... say 152" ? ;)

How about 152 cm! :D

Seriously, the pass-through is only about 10 inches wide (rough estimate) - no way a snowboard would fit.

Gordon

That RX-8 skibag is 200mm X 200mm X 2000mm, so the pass through is at least this 200mm wide and from the pictures, looks like it could as high as 350mm. So you can do some math at home and figure out if your board can pass through.
