babylou 05-08-2003, 03:42 PM It sure doesn't look like there is any room in the snout for a V-6 engine. Maybe Honda is coming out with a Rotary? Beter watch out Mazda.

lefuton 05-08-2003, 04:01 PM hey now, if there was any other company i'd trust to spend time developing a rotary it'd be honda...or toyota
wakeech 05-08-2003, 04:09 PM no, it's not that, but the idea that they'd try to... i just can't see it.
PS: i'd say if BMW or Porshe tried it, things would be a bit more interesting (Honda just doesn't seem to "get it" with their other cars)... but the RENESIS is just pristine, and with all the patents Mazda must have on that sucker, everyone knows it's a lost cause before you begin (unless some manufacturer buys the entire RE development team away from Mazda, which i know would be impossible)

Are the rear view cameras just a concept feature, or will they make it into production?
RotorGeek 05-08-2003, 04:22 PM The TL guys are saying the CAMS are going to be production. Acura has yet to confirm the rumors
SpreeGuy 05-08-2003, 04:25 PM I remember seeing a television program showcasing concept cars. And they stated that the rear-view mirrors must be a flat "Mirror", therefore, no concave/convex mirrors, or cameras.
then again laws might have changed since then.
cueball 05-08-2003, 04:27 PM Maybe the cameras will work in tandem with conventional mirrors in order to meet the leagal requirments.

see, now the thought of bmw or porsche trying to do it makes me giggle. i can see how you can come to the conclusion that honda does not seem to "get it" when you look at their cars, they are first and foremost a company that builds motors. mazda is more along the company that builds cars, a more package deal type of thing. that's the way i see mazda anyhow.
for that reason i think honda could do a good job, not to mention the incredible bank roll they could put behind development. take a honda rotary motor and stick it in a mazda styled body... *whistles*

When all the rotary talent in the world works for only a few select companies, the immersion in development time (from scratch) would be tremendous for Honda to undertake to the point that it's stupid.
Why do you think Hondas have bland interiors? Why do you think they offer everything as a standard option, built into the car price?
Because they are in the business of making money. I mean let's face it... Honda doesn't have any innovations in their cars. We leave innovation to the companies that are more by nature -- niche. That's the BMWs, Porsches, Audis, Mercedes, Lotuses, and of course.... Mazda.
Honda makes a great car, at a good price but that's because their manufacturing methods are the cheapest, and MOST structured in the INDUSTRY. That's also why they have almost all of the top-selling cars in the US. They have a good marketing arm, reliable automobiles, that perform just as good, if not better than competition for less money.
But for them to 'invent' something that's truly revolutionary... well I don't see it happening. It's not creativity that makes you bucks in the automobile world. It's being the king of reliabilty and affordability like Honda has always been.

That's right the NSX, S2000, Integra Type R, RSX Type R (Japan), Civic Type R (Japan/Europe), CRX and even the Element were all just cookie cutter cars?
That being said, I agree that Honda often does play it a bit too safe in many of the markets it competes in ( a FWD TL, CL and RL...come on!).

Damn that kicks ass!!! If its true i would hope for a steady cam setup so the thing doesnt jitter like crazy and maybe even steering wheel controls for zoom!!! That would be great; i could spot to lawz tryin to sneak up on me. Maybe even justify a bumper stick that says "Your stupid driving caught on tape"

To bring a TL to market with cameras and gizmos like that is not going to happen, though it's a nice way to lure people into checking out the car now and showing interest in what's liked, and what's hated about styling etc.
Farsyde 05-25-2003, 11:06 AM this is true, but the new lexus RX330 has camera's already in the production model. I guess the technology of the future.......today!
Skyline Maniac 05-25-2003, 12:41 PM Don't knock Honda products, they sell like hot cakes for very good reasons. Honda makes the best FWD Japanese cars around, they build entry luxury vehicles at lower cost than competitions, manufactures V6 engins with tons of power for low cost, and has the reputation for building very reliable products. It's ignorant saying Honda does not have any innovations. They got a high revving engine in the S2k that Mazda engineers tried to duplicate with the Renesis. (check the engine specs) Their Integra and Civic Type R are very reliable and high performance cars that are fun to drive despite of being FWD.

ahaha. you have a good point. I mean, rotaries were always low revving torque monsters in the past. Wonder why mazda change it's natural characteristics so much? :D :p
But yeah, i agree with you that honda has nice products. They know what their doing.
revhappy 05-25-2003, 12:55 PM In addition, they tend to be one of the best (if not the best) at getting good fuel efficiency and low emissions given the level of performance.

Well, according to edmunds.com the next TL supposedly will have a 3.5L V-6 with around 300 horsepower and 250 torque, and be available AWD. That isn't sports car territory, because it's a heavy luxury car, but it's still competitive in its class.
I think if any car company is guilty of being great but bland, it's Toyota. The Celica and MR2 are great cars, but Toyota hasn't had a true sports car in the US since the Supra (which, I will admit, was an awesome car). Lexus sedans, while top rated and reliable, tend to have less power than other luxury cars in the same price range.

Yep, but that IS300 is begging to be turbo'd. After all its haulin a 2JZ under the hood.
pelucidor 06-04-2003, 12:00 PM The LS430 and GS430 have more power and torque than the MB S430 and E430 or similar Jaguars - of course BMW beats them all with the new 4.4 liter.
