Hello all,

Someone rubbed either their tire or bumper along the side of my 8, down near the bottom just behind the tire. It depressed the back bottom of my left front fender in about a quarter of an inch.

You can see in the attacjed picture the gap it left, along with the black scuff where it looks like the tire rotated along the side of my car.

It's not very noticeable, and any damage to the paint I've buffed out. However, I'm still wondering if I should have it fixed. The estimate is $800, which requires repainting both the fender and the door to blend the paint. It's not the cost of the repair; I'm most concerned that the aftermarket paint job won't last or hold up as well as the factory paint.

Any opinions/advice would be welcome.

Personally if it happened to me, I would get it fixed asap since I know it's there and it'll always bug me at the back of my mind.

A decent panel shop should know how to prepare the surface properly to ensure the longevity of the paint they apply.

Also if they are even half decent at what they are doing, they should be able to match the paintwork to the original paint.

Maybe do a bit of research around your area and look for panel shops which specialise in prestige and exotic cars, they're normally the better ones since their clientele are usually very picky about the repairs conducted on their cars.

Had a similar problem on the rear bumper cover, had the dealer take care of it and the dealer will warrantee the work under the new car warrantee for paint.
