Race tire?

I ran a search, but to no avail.

I spoke with Tire Rack, and they said they bought out a European distributor's entire stock. The rep I spoke with said that they are not in the same class as the Hoosier on the track, but for auto-x they would be a good choice (which is what I would be using them 70% of the time for.)

Price is excellent, but is this a case of "you get what you pay for?"

Examples: pricing for a 245/35/18 would be $131.00, 265/35/18 $129.00 (Tire Rack says that this size won't fit, but I thought that others have successfully put this size on the stock wheel... :confused: )

Yep, you get what you paid for. :) From what I read on the Subaru forum, (NASIOC.com) :

1) They don't compare to the Victoracers for auto-x, but
2) are on-par to Victos for track days.
3) They are marginally quicker than Falken Azenis

They are lasting as long as, if not more, than the victos tho. They are not comparable to Hoosiers.

I would think that you need some heat in them as they are made more for Road Course than auto-x.

If someone wants to get them tho... there's nothing stopping ya. :)

Tire rack is almost required to say that only OEM sized tires will fit. They're not in the position to say otherwise with so many rim/tire combinations and be held liable if they don't work/fit.

Just say to them it's going on a race car and they're cheap enough for a test fit. They don't need to know. Just realize that you probably won't be able to return them if, in fact, they don't fit. But any tire guy wirth their salt will make them. People are fitting 285/30-18 hoosiers onb the stockers. :) I can't see an issue for the 265/35s

By the way, if you want to use them for SCCA auto-x, legally, you can't until they're on the approved tire use listing.

I thought for ST the tire needed to be 140+ and available before April to be leagal? Guess I'll have to look at the book again. I just wish Hankook, Falken and whoever else is going to introduce new tires would get off their collective bums so they could be included in GRM's and others tire tests. Sorry for the hijack.

They don't just have to be available by the April deadline, but available in at least 6 different sizes including at least 3 wheel diameters. I've heard that Falken is about to release a new Azenis (Sport replacement?) soon and should be available in more sizes than the current Azenis Sport. No idea if it's true...I read it on the internet. :D

Regarding the Dunlops, a few people around here have used them for autocrossing in the past couple weeks (mostly on E36 M3s) and the most often heard comment was "A lot like the Toyo RA-1...maybe a little better."

Right. And as of now, there's only 2 diameters. However, since most of the points seasons are over right now.. doesn't hurt. :)

But starting next year, unless Dunlop offers more diameters and has them approved for solo use by April, then they shouldn't be used (in SCCA anyways)

I've been hearing the 'New Azenis' story for over a year now. It would be nice to have many more diameters.

However, for street tires in auto-x for now... try the Falken GRB-451. They have many different sizes and, they're very, very good. Almost on par with Azenis when shaved. :) I ran them this past year on my Subaru and so did Tom Hoppe (STX Natonal Champion), both of us in STX. They're almost on par with Azenis. In STU, you can actually go down a diameter if you want to 17's. You're not stuck with 18s like we are in stock... but if you're using the stock wheels... and need a 140 or more treadware...
