How much should I put on the applicator? I've been putting a nickel sized glob on and wiping a section progressively until I can't see that there's an obvious layer being applied.

The instructions call for "small amount" in a "thin layer" over the entire car, but this is kind of vague

 

I use NXT all the time, just put some on the pad, dont worry about how much, I just make a swirl on the pad, when it runs out just add more, use whatevers in the pad at the end to cut in around the door and lights, just make sure you get the pad wet first, not good to use a dry applicator pad.

 

I can't be any more specific than the instructions on the bottle, though my advice would be to keep in mind that the thicker the NXT layer, the more difficult it is to remove. I always have a tendency to think that more is better, but with waxes/sealants, that mentality is the exception, not the rule. Apply as thin a layer as you feel comfortable applying, and add a second layer of NXT wax after a 24-hour curing period.

is it ok to add a couple coats on top of each other right away or is that just a waste of time?

 

i think you have to let nxt cure or something over the course of 24 hours... a single coat i believe would be the nxt and the nxt booster after 30 min. I'm not sure though, that's just what i've been doing.


also, do those instructions hold even though NXT is not a wax?

It's a polymer. And most polymer's need to cure at least 24 hours before adding the next coat so they can bond properly.

most polymer polishes will only bond to the paint/clear coat... so depending on the polish, putting more than 1 coat on is a waste becuase you wipe all the excess away.. I should also point out that more isn't always better..

with NXT Tech Wax you don't need a really big build up to get a nice shine... just use enough to cover the paint, not smother it.. otherwise you're wasting it... i suggest putting 2 coats on, just to make sure that you got the entire car.. stay away from the black trim because it'll turn it white... wait 2 days, then buff it out... and you'll be sparkling..

of course.. i don't use NXT anymore.. i'm a crystal guard fan now.. i love that stuff.. got the pro application and now use CG quick every 2 months or so to touch up.

 

thats the thing though, how do i know if i'm covering it, as opposed to smothering it? It seems like if i put too little, i can't tell if i've missed a spot, or if i put enough at all.

 

A slight haze is all you need. When you go to apply it, use a very small amount and see how far you can stretch it out before you don't get a haze anymore. That's the right amount for that area. Does that make sense? It's not very hard. Putting too much on won't hurt anything but your wallet so if you think you need more and can afford it, go for it.

 

Philodox, you're a little contradicting with your comments here

I remembered reading somewhere in this forum too that the NXT doesn't built up. Thus no point applying 2 coats as you'll be cleaning off the 1st layer as you're applying the 2nd layer on. Thus wasting effort!

by haze do you mean immediately haze that appears right after application, or the kind of haze that might appear 30 minutes after application?

 

Then someone else on this forum is misinformed because NXT can be layered, 2-3 coats max, ideally with 24-hour curing periods.
