Hi I'm new to this board and I like the RX-8 very much and consider even buying one in the future ( I'd buy one now but I'm poor).

Anyways I was reading Sport Compact Car and they put the Rx8 on the dyno and said it was losing power at somewhere around 6000 rpms if I remember correctly. This was attributed to the 5th and 6th ports not funtioning correctly, they probably were stuck shut. Something us NA FC guys know all to well. They also went on to say that they believe that all the mags that got a test car were probably having the same problems and that the acceleration could be much better if the problem was fixed (duh).

Does anyone know if this problem was fixed before production started? I have this bad feeling it wasn't . :( I would hate to see this problem plague the rx8 as well.

Well there was some speculation that Mazda were fixing 'something' wrong with the design prior to release and that it had moved the deliveries back a bit but the Japanese deliveries seem to be on time which tends to negate that idea. I'm confident that if it was a generic problem that affected several engines then Mazda will have determined the cause and prevented it from happening again. If several engines had the affliction then it would have been very easy to diagnose.

Since this happened before production started on the US cars, and before a good deal of the Japanese cars were finished, I can't imagine they'd just leave a known defect in a car that's supposed to do what the RX-8 is supposed to do for Mazda. That would just be idiotic on Mazda's part. Why do you think they snatched the car back so quickly? If it was going to be a problem on all the cars, they would just have let SCC hang on to the one they had and finish testing it. It's not like they'll be able to hide it, especially after the car is out.

If you do a search for SCC and you'll come up with of threads, like this one : http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3350&highlight=SCC , all of which talk about this in one shape or another.
