I already had one quite a few months ago, but I quess this was the updated version? They said that it was for cold starts, and the pcm needed recalibrated. I was also told of people complaining of lack of power after 6k. I wasn't one of them, but my car feels so much smoother a quicker across the power band. anyone else get this?

anyone know where mazda reprograms their car? do they use the obd port under the steering wheel? I ask because I have the CZ installed.... everyone restore their car to stock before getting flashes?

The WDS reflashes the car via the DLC/OBD-II connector under the dash..No service dept will see or detect the CZ unless they are looking for it..

They reflashed mine when my car flooded this week. I already had the M flash so I thought it was suspicious.

Could it be at the time you thought you got the M flash, they actually flashed you with L, but you thought you got M?

^ No, they said that it was an updated M Flash. But, who knows with dealerships. I'm just glad that I can feel a diference in power.

just got the car with the m flash yes car has a little more power it seems, definitely shifts smoother. Went one year without flooding car thanks to this website then one cool morning shut it off too soon. Service was great called the 1-800 number for mazda they were there in five minutes with a flatbed tow. got the car back later that day with the m flash very happy!

I don't know what your dealer told you but there is no "updated "M" flash".

When the WDS searches for calibration level of the PCM it tells if a update is available or it tells the tech the car is up to date. You can't even put the "M" in twice.

The only way you can get the update is if the PCM cal level is "L" or prior.

They have flashed mine with the 'M' 2 times...maybe there was an upgrade or something.

But I really don't trust my stooopid dealer to do anything right the first time anymore. point: I told them NOT to rotate the tires the last time I took it in...and what did they do? Ype...you got it, rotate those tires! Get more money for the dealership! Hurah! *sigh*

I had the L and had no problms. Two weeks ago, I went in for my brakes to be turned and they flashed my car. I never had a flood issue before. Last week I flooded my car with the new flash. Two days ago I got a CEL. They cleared the code and sad if it came back, they would have to replace an emisions vacume pump. I have noticed no change in performance.

what the dealers who are doing a "2nd M" are doing is following the MSP04. if it's open for you then as far as Mazda is concerned you havent had the M flsh. they then check your calibration adn either see its at M and close MSP04 or see its at a level prior to M and update and close MSP04. so if you already had M then they are just closing the MSP04 which shows on your paperwork that the "flash" has been done even if they actually did it awhile ago.

I too had a new M-reflash just this week when I took my car in for 7500 miles service even though I thought I had the M-flash already and confirmed that with the tap test. My car had never flooded and has been getting 20 MPG with 60% high way and 40% city. But I do feel the car is now more responsive and smoother.

The previous 'L' calibration also passed the oil-gauge-sweep "test"... so the 'M' might have not been done before.

Remember, the oil pressure gauge test only works on certain later VINs, it will not work on an early VIN (check the TSB link).

Also, the oil sweep test is NOT an indication of PCM calibration level. It is confirmation that the KAM memory in the PCM has been cleared. In other words, you are resetting all the learned values in your PCM back to zero (and may cause slightly rough running until it relearns them). If you look at the latest PCM flash TSB you will notice they have removed this oil sweep check.

Here is the oil sweep test TSB:

^^^ Uhhh ... you do know that this thread is many months old, don't you? The M flash is WAY in the distant past now.

If you picked up the car recently, likely it's has the N flash. If your dealer is on the ball, they would have updated to the P or even the most recent R flash. Try giving them a ring to tell you.
