At last My RX-8 came to my dealer.
It will come to my house at 10:30 on tomorrow morning.
My Mazda dealer worked faithfully to me,When many Japanese people are holidays.
Although some body received RX-8 in Japan,
I have not seen RX-8 on the road in Tokyo till today.
I must drive to around 1000km by under 3000 rev, for the adjustment and care of my car,
(How is it called in English, the drive for adjustment of a car?)
My RX-8 is "Standard type" in Japan.
5-speed manual
154KW(210PS)/7200rpm
222N-m(22.6kg-m)/5000rpm
I don't need speed and power.(I want to other wheel.)
If you want the report about the limit drive and the final speed of RX8, Please wait for a report from other member.
But I think, that will be your report soon!
thank you Mazda! thank you everyone!

AsianStyle 04-26-2003, 12:29 AM That yellow looks very nice, I wanted the yellow with the yellow/black leather from the old preproduction version haha anyways whats that in the front grill sticking out??
Maximus 04-26-2003, 12:31 AM WOW!

Maximus 04-26-2003, 12:34 AM I am wondering what i am gonna do with the front license plate!
tripwire 04-26-2003, 12:44 AM That's great! I bet you won't sleep!
1000km is about 620 Miles...
Does anyone know the top speed for the RX-8 at or below 3000 RPMs?
It seems the minimum speed limit in Atlanta is 80 MPH so I'll have to take the back roads to work for those first few weeks :)
Yuhki 04-26-2003, 12:46 AM Oh! EAST MOON -san,
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (^_^)/
I think you are the first one in the world who uploaded the pics of own RX-8.

...it's pretty simple: 20mph/1000rpm in 6th... so, 60mph ;)
tripwire 04-26-2003, 12:53 AM somehow I knew you were going to answer that one :)
Thanks.
Doctorr 04-26-2003, 01:25 AM Congratulations Mr. Ichi-ban East Moon san!
........Please post your impressions, we are all starved for details....How are the switches?......is the Air conditioner system 'automatic'....or do you set it manually?
........Do the power windows travel fast, or slow?........So many questions, please post anything at all that you find surprising.

It is a beautiful car, (and your Corgi Dog is a treasure!)

Gamera 04-26-2003, 02:53 AM Congratulations! Many happy miles!
Lock & Load 04-26-2003, 03:33 AM Congratulations great colour choice . ihope to be getting my car soon , also in lightining yellow 6 speed manual leather pack.
Lensman 04-26-2003, 05:10 AM It is good to see someone receiving their car at last! In England we call the process: 'Running in'. 'Breaking in' means burgling (robbing) a house (or car or other building) in this country.
BUT: 3000rpm on a 9000rpm engine! 60mph for nearly 700 miles!!! That will be intolerable. I have a 16 mile daily journey on the A14 at 70mph+ (when possible) and the thought of holding up traffic in a new RX-8 is just embarrassing... :(

EAST MOON -- How does it feel ? Make sure to share your first impressions when you can, as you have a very captive audience here!
Donny Boy 04-26-2003, 07:40 AM You Lucky Dog. Congratulations!!! Please give us a report of the driving experience and the reaction of the public to the car if you ever get out of it.

I heard the new information about the drive for adjustment of a RX-8.
Mazda dealer say
The first adjustment drive for a rotary engine is under 7000rpm.
.....7000rpm!!! That's an amazing! RE
And someone's precious information
usually, the rev limit for The first adjustment drive is the half rev (under 4000-4500rpm on a 8000-9000rpm RX-8's engine).
thanks all

It sure will. I want to get the "running-in" period out of the way ASAP, so I plan on spending a day off (or two) toiling around the SF Bay Area and driving up and down from SF to Monterey or so. It will probably still be torture for my lead foot, but at least scenic one! (^_^)

rx8daniel 04-26-2003, 06:04 PM I believe the hook thing in the lower grill area is one of the two front transport tie down hooks. Often (always?) not removed by the dealer, not difficult to remove at home. Congratulations Moon!
The adjustment / break-in RPM limit: I think he said it's 3000 for the 7000 red line (210HP) engine; the 250HP (9000 redline) is 4000-4500. About 1/2 of the engine's 'published' or recommended maximum RPM limit. He also has a 5speed, which may have a different 5th gear than 6th on a 6speed. And an auto is likely different still.
ZoomZoomH 04-26-2003, 11:39 PM congratulations EAST MOON-san!!!!!

I believe the hook thing in the lower grill area is one of the two front transport tie down hooks. No, they're removable towing eyes, like those provided with many upmarket European cars. They can also be attached at the rear, where they screw into threaded receptacles behind small removable panels in the bumper cover. They stow in the trunk, along with a length of tow line. See this pic. (http://www.snikte.net/images/RX-8/Rev-It-Up/slides/DSC01360.html)
Cihuuy 04-27-2003, 11:16 AM hmmm... no word yet from him...?!?
I bet his enjoying the 8 as we speak... :D cruising around, showing off to his frens... and etc... hihihi i know i would... ;)
The sooner he pass that break in period, the sooner he can enjoy the 8... damn 9000rpm red line on a rotary... how does it feel huh?!? :D

Cihuuy 04-27-2003, 12:21 PM hmmm... i think everyone will agree with me on this... the licence plate holder is ruining the look of the 8... :(

Hmmm, it's gonna be really hard to do 600 miles at such low RPM's but I guess it'll be worth it...
Can anyone say if it then needs to have a service/oil change etc... at the dealer?....
Hmmm... 600 miles, I think I'm gonna end up collecting it on a friday and booking that 1000Km service for monday morning...

Actually, I wouldn't even need to go that far - 600 miles would only get me half-way to El Paso and back. They ain't kidding when they say everything's bigger in Texas. :)
P00Man 04-27-2003, 06:28 PM Congrats on your car East Moon! Very good color Choice! and take that stupid license plate holder off, if its legal of course

Vapir no2 (http://vapirno2.net)
Aeterna 04-27-2003, 07:21 PM Unfortunately, there's nothing within a 600 mile radius of El Paso worth visiting. Albuquerque's OKAY, but the elevation is greater so the air is ever so slightly thinner (gasp, choke)
Los Angeles is about 830 miles away. San Antonians may not be able to appreciate the '8 and I'm not about to advise anyone to explore the outback roads that are the Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico (even though the food is superb...!) south of El Paso.
Congrats, EAST MOON - sahn. Just answer for us this... is it everything YOU expected? Forget everyone else's advice about do this or add that, or this is better or those are cooler, etc. Just answer for us this... Is it?
For everyone else out there reading this... the Mazda slogan should be amended with the arrival of the '8:
"ZOOM-ZOOM" should become:
"Are you ready... for VROOM-VROOM...?"

Many Japanese guy doesn't like a Japanese license plate design.
I think, the Left side pic is sounds very good for RX-8 too,
but I don't want to be a "WANTED".:D
Usually, A few Japanese guy will take to the way of the right side pic.

Cihuuy 04-28-2003, 09:37 AM i remember the '99 spec and up bumper from the FD3s, that has those licence plate holder intergrated with the bumper!! that looked ugly.
At least with the Rx8 like the one you posted on the right, is better. Am not sure how it will affect the air flow to the oil cooler (??) but definetely better than putting in the middle.

The picture on the right looks like the climate control is automatic, is this true?
Let's see the blue! :)
The controls do look auto. They look like the EXACT same controls that are on the Mazda6. Round knobs with push buttons and the little LED screen up above that changes based on your settings.
I was assuming this was going to happen, it only makes sense to use the same knobs and controls!

Though I have been lurking for quite some time, guess since I just registered, I should say hello. I have been a rotary fan all my life and am a former FC owner. To this day I regret selling my RX-7 (with 200,000 miles on it). I'm seriously considering purchasing a RX-8, though I know someone that is selling their '93 RX-7 that only has 50K on it. Don't know what he's asking or any specifics on the car yet (all info from a friend of mine), but I do know it has a spoiler, cruise, and sunroof. Can anyone figure out the packages from those 3 items? :D He's an older gentleman and has really taken care of the car. Assuming the car is in great shape, I will probably buy the RX-7. It not, RX-8 all the way!
Anyway, didn't mean to take the thread off-topic.

When you choose a Japanese license plate, you must take notice of the next three points.
Can you see a small Japanese-character at the upper-left of a license plate (Please see a sample).
This shows the location of the District Land Transport Bureau by which the car was registered in Japan.
(Land Transport Bureau / €^Η@Riku-wun-kyoku)
sample is ·μ Nagano (My plate is ϋn Nerima)
Please look for Γμ Shonan, if you need to call it "COOL".
Next is a small number at the upper-right of a license plate.
This is the classification number of the car.
RX-8 is #300 (or #33 and #3 is OK) For example RoadStar is #5 #55
The number which begins from #3, #5, or #7 is a "private car."
If you choose a #9 or #99 #9xx, Your RX-8 is Bulldozer! and #8 or #8x is ...WOW!
last is a small Japanese-character on the left of a license plate.
This is Hiragana *,’,€, is same as A, B, C
Please choose your favorite Japanese-character.
BUT! If you choose "ν" Wha , your RX-8 is Rental car.
and Yellow license plate is a Kei-car(660cc).
and license plate with the red slash line is a "temporary" license plate.
thanks all
ZoomZoomH 04-29-2003, 10:03 AM good info EAST MOON on how to read Japanese plates!
you don't want to be hanging a 'rental truck' plate on your RX-8!!! lol! :D

This is the rear smoke(black!)-window.It's very cool and very fitting for Yellow!
First, a clutch feel is very light.I think that I am lighter than my previous car Road Star (Miata)1800cc.
Shift-feel, and stroke, is feel like a RS, they were very glad.
A suspension is very smooth. It is not too soft and not too hard. RX-8 is very fun to drive car! ...same as Road Star.
(my car is 16 inch wheel,and I don't know a feel of 18inch wheel.)
a bulge(or swell?) is under the left leg of a driver's seat,That is the catalyst of exhaust. It is obstructive while getting used.
My car is Right-Handle drive. Probably, the car of a left-Handle drive does not have a problem.
The rear-view from a driver's seat is (a few) bad. for entry to small garage like me.
But there is no problem "in Driving time.
thanks all
Hercules 05-01-2003, 11:22 AM Thanks Eastmoon you've been a great help so far! :)

Vancouver 05-01-2003, 11:49 AM Thanks for the new photo and information. With the wide C pillar, changing lanes may be a problem.
maverikk 05-01-2003, 12:45 PM Just stay ahead of all other traffic and you can change lanes like you want :) :) :D

The C pillar looks to be about as wide as the C pillar on my 81 RX7. I understand it was deliberately designed to be reminisent of the 1st gen. If your mirrors are adjusted properly, this should not be a problem. I've explained how to adjust mirrors in another thread. Do a search if you need to.

...all RX c pillars look like that because of the trademark wrap-around rear window.

Thank you yet again, East Moon, for your information. I believe one of the magazine reviewers mentioned the passenger footwell (U.S. spec) having a bulge, so that checks.

Are you serious kwolfman, or just poking fun? It made me giggle. :D
Lensman 05-01-2003, 02:09 PM East Moon-san I am embarrassed to have to ask you for yet another photograph please. My UK car will be RHD like your car and I am concerned about the engine bulge in the driver's footwell. If you would take a photograph to illustrate the problem then it would be very useful for all of us in the UK. Thank you for the excellent information so far.
kwolfman 05-01-2003, 02:46 PM B-Nez
Yes, I was being serious. I didn't mean to appear condescending. There are tons of folks out there that do not properly adjust their mirrors, resulting in horrible blind spots.
I guess I wanted to point out that with my 81 RX7 and it's wide C Pillar, but with properly adjusted mirrors, I had no problem with the right-hand side of the car.

YES
My height is 175cm.
and Weight is 65kg...It is unrelated.:D
evel333 05-02-2003, 11:53 AM That bulge is quite pronounced. When I first saw pics of the optional floor mat, I thought it looked very long--now I see it's actually just thin in order to clear the bulge. Very inteesting.
ZoomZoomH 05-02-2003, 12:07 PM that bulge also exists in my 91 RX-7, on the passenger side.
when i sit on the passenger side, i ususally just lean my left leg against it, quite comfortable actually
M-ster 05-02-2003, 12:12 PM Oooh! The BULGE looks a little obscene.

Hi Lensman
You talking about that bulge?
It's the "Catalyst equipment" for an exhaust gas. (It is only this that I know.)
thanks
wakeech 05-02-2003, 02:02 PM no, i believe he means the square shaped "foot pad" or "foot rest" straight under the pedals EASTMOONsan.

Yes, I did. As you say it is, on closer inspection. no more than a quality foot rest. The bumps appeared non-symmetrical at first glance and I thought maybe it was some cunning foot warmer as part of the climate control. ;)

Maybe,I think, I understood what you are talking about.
Is it the square on a floor mat?
It is the slip-stoper of a right leg.
There are two kinds of floor mats, that is not attached to another floor mat.(My floor mat is "sport type", another one is "standard type")
I thinks that is a "fashion".
To be sure, it is "cooler" than another one.
If I mistake again ....Please reply.:p

I am under the 'breaking in' yet.
and I drove only the city area of Tokyo.
RX-8's acceleration is wonderful,RE response is very quick! look like a RacerReplica-moto-bike.
But My candidate for comparison is only miata 1800.
I cannot find the other language.
Please wait for other guy's report and check it my other posts.

I think the door close sound of RX-8 is the door close sound of RX-8!
That sound is Individuality original sound of RX-8.
But
Since some forum members are focusing on it, I write about it.
I feel the door close sound of RX-8 is no good. (...but It is better than my English.)
I am on my few experience and comparing RX-8 with Porsche.
I know it is the meaningless.
Porsche does not have a rear door. and BMW is a sedan for me. Furthermore, those cars are high prices.
I think Everyone could understand that...same as me.
I think that the sound of the door of RX8 has the influence by the free-style-door.
Rather than the sound of a good door, since I needed the free-style-door, I do not mind about RX-8's door sounds.
and some Japanese RX-8 owners say
"The door of RX-8 cannot be closed easily ( a little) "
me too ...but There is no problem for me.
thanks all

I was waiting for the question, about that.
It's because I like and enjoy car washing.
but RX-8 of my picture on a post is in the state still received from the dealer.:D
I washed my RX-8 the day before yesterday, and applied the body-coating for my car.
( "applied" or "gave" Someone teach me right English Please. )
This time, I tried a 'Titanium-Oxide-Coat-wax" called 'Photocatalyst coat".
From a description
( A photocatalyst coat is the new style coat wax which disassembles the dirt on the surface of a body at the photocatalyst reaction by the ultraviolet ray and titanium oxide which are contained in sunlight.)
This wax is the wax of the type which does not make waterdrop.
I can not judge yet the efficacy which used this one.
I will become busy since June of Japan and July have many rainy days.
thanks

RotorGeek 05-06-2003, 03:11 PM Ecological Photocatalyst coating agent utilizing titanium oxide compound
This is what i found about that stuff
Photocatalyst technology decomposes organic matter using energy of ultraviolet radiation.
However, photocatalyst also decomposes and degrades whole materials being coated due to its significantly antibacterial and odor eliminating effect, and that was a challenge in the past.
However, recent progress in nano-technology made possible special coating on the surface of particles of titanium oxide with ceramics as well as absorption and decomposition of toxic organic matter alone without direct contact between particles and base materials.
Thus, the field of application of the technology has been diversified.
Using specially processed titanium oxide compound, Wellcoat100, our unique photocatalyst coating agent for interior building materials, improves environment with our unique organic binder.

BlueAdept 05-13-2003, 04:21 PM While those people in Japan are on here with there shiny new cars... I have a couple of questions too!... nice easy ones I hope!
1, Does the manual state the maximum allowable exposure to RF fields... (This is often at the back, and refers to the use of a transmitter inside the vehicle or antenna mounted on the vehicle).
2, If anyone has the navigation (Although it may be a different system to the UK or US one)... I would like to know if there is even the remotest chance of getting an external input into the system, hopefully NMEA or Garmin protocol on a serial port... The reason for this is that I have some equipment which uses radio links to plot the locations of other vehicles in a group... I've used this previously with Garmin mapping GPS systems... but it would be SERIOUSLY cool to have this working on the built in navigation systems...

East Moon, thanks very much for posting the pic of the RX's with the 16" rims. I have been looking long and hard to get an image of those, and this is the first! I would go for the 16", even though the 18" look great, but in the U.S. Mazda will not provide the option of limited slip differential with the 16" rim. LSD [sic] is only available as a package with the 18" rims and other upgrades.
Thanks again. I guess I will have to get the Sport Package, so good-bye to the lighter weight 16" rims. I figured that the 18" rims with their heavier tires are about 8 lbs heavier than the 16" (48 lbs vs. 40 lbs).
My thinking was that the 7.5" tread width, even with the higher profile, might just be the best overall match with this car, especially with the automatic which I am looking at. I tend to think that the 18" wheel is more of a fad thing than a performance thing, when you take into account all the extra weight.
Other opinions appreciated. I guess the LSD will be the decisive factor for me.
Eager and in holding pattern,
Berry
East Moon,
Do you have the limited slip differential? If not, do you miss having it? Are there any disadvantages of having LSD?
Thanks ~~Berry
