Hi all, as we have been talking about a RX8 meet in the Toronto Owner thread and since nobody wants to make a new thread I guess I will and I know there are people interested in this little meet since the weather should be nice and it's time that we should get to know other RX8 owners better.

Date people suggest: this Sat Oct 2 ( time have not been set)

> Please give input on what time is the best for everyone.

Location: Dave and Buster on HWY7 and 400

anyone interested please post and we will set a time.

thanks

looking forward to this meet.

You guys better show up on the weekend of the 16th for the RX-7 gathering!

I would make it to this, unfortunately I'm off to Ottawa to help a few friends...

I hope the meet turns out well... (and you guys better stick around for some people as some people don't know how to tell time! )

Lates,

There is a gray Titanium in Mississauga that I've seen a few times. Saw him again this morning driving down Unity Drive with one of his headlights burnt, I think. If he's reading this thread he should also come out!

Yes I heard the it might rain, but more in the morning and it should be nice and shiny in the afternoon..; so hopefully by 3:00 it clears up..

Great pictures... I will post my pics soon...

We had a very fun afternoon, met some very nice people...

For sure we will come out again soon.

Don't worry, I will organize the next meet.

Uhmm I don't think there is a TO RX8 Club. Maybe we can start one up now.

I will see what I can do, maybe build a web page etc.

Any suggestions.

let me know

It was great meeting you guys and gal.

Mspeed, thanks for coordinating the meet. It was really enjoyable and the people that showed up were really great. I think its a great idea to have a TO chapter of the RX-8 owners/club. Who, knows with any luck we might even be able to get Mazda's attention if we grew it large enough. Maybe they may even throw us some goodies (mods, rims, turbos, mazdaspeed kits, etc ) for free or seek our expert and high refined opinions when the develop the rx-8 SSTT ("Super Sport Twin Turbo") or the RX-9!!!

R888, nice pics, I'll post mine soon as well.

Rotoweee (I think you had the titanium 8) , sorry about the 170 KM/H flyby going south on the 400 but I was running real late.

Kartracer, hope you made it safely to London. You still have to show me how to effectively do the break & gas downshifting thing!

MrJynx

I was on my way but then got a call for an urgent matter at work, sorry guys. Looks like it was a great turn out!

On another note, around 5:30pm yesterday I was going down the 427 and saw a Titanium 8 merge in from the 407 ahead. I sped up to catch up and followed for a bit then moved over next to it and signaled the driver with a "What's up" type salute, he just turned away and ignored it. I thought maybe it was one of the guys that had left the meet but was very disapointed with the reaction, or no reaction in this case. Maybe with the tinted windows on my car he couldn't see inside but it was pretty sunny at the time.

Anyways I look forward to the next one, hope its soon!

It was GREAT seeing old friends [Mr. and Mrs.Rotorwheee :)] and meeting so many new[to me :) ] RX-8 drivers/ enthusiasts. Glad I was able to add a touch of Yellow to the incredible spectrum shown in these pics. Spectacular! Thx, R888!

For some inexplicable reason, my Fuji A 310 refused to cooperate. As soon as I could find a spot to park when I got back into the city, I sat fiddling with it and got a swell pic of the 8's steering wheel.. :( . Oh, well at least I know that it was my fault and the camera's not kaput. ..operator error  \

I'm all for a Toronto Chapter, Shamblerock..following your line of thought, membership in the Trillium Miata Club got me a 10% discount on parts and service, a newsletter and monthly meetings at locations around the GTA.

And just imagine if a bunch of us showed the flag at Tail of the Dragon [is it really 11 h to NC?]

Thanks again mzpeed and everyone for being there.. Looking forward to our next encounter. :)

Great pictures... sorry I didn't have time to post my pictures yet... will post it properly later tonight.

Yes this was definately a great meet. For sure we will have more chances to come out and do this again.

Thanks everyone for coming out...

I will think about when we should meet the next time and when. I think our next meet, we should have lunch or dinner so we can sit down and have a beer etc..

As I will also see if I can look into establishing a RX8 club for TO.

Let me know if anyone will be interested in helping me out cause I know there is alot of work involve. If someout will help me out, maybe we can get this club started earlier. I know there will be more and more RX8 owners in the future so for sure if we have a club it will grow. And as Shamblerock mentioned, if we have a enough people in our club then we might be able to get some sponsors or dicounts in our future purchase of parts & accessories..

thanks again and it was nice meeting everyone.

let me know if it's a good idea to establish a TO RX8 club and if anyone wants to help me out.

Shamblerock
10-03-2004, 08:50 PM
Mzpeed, I can produce a cool intro video (1 to 5 minutes; whatever we feel is appropriate, with our own cars and catching shots of well known T.O. spots (CN Tower, skydome, Yorkville, etc....) with some catchy music and special effects.

Don't know how I can help witrh establishinf a web site as that is unknown territory to me. If you know what you need, tell us what are the items/tasks and each person can contribute wherever they can.

mzpeed
10-03-2004, 11:11 PM
Thanks Shamblerock.. That's not a bad idea...

Yes for sure. I will see and ask around on how to establish this club..

I guess the first thing we need should be the name of the club.

I have checked some domain name for the internet site.

1. torx8club.com is avaliable
2. torx8.com is avaliable.

these are the 2 names I can think of so far.. nothing really special but it represents the club.

anybody else have a idea please speak out so we can vote for a name.

as for the web site, I will see what I can do and start this thing up.

Let me know if this is a good idea and if people are really in with starting this club.

thanks

Hi all,

This meet turned out better than I expected. Its good to meet everybody, chat about my favorite toy. It was a decent showing, all models and colours were properly represented... definiity the highlite for me was the-thus-far-all-elusive lightning yellow (but RX8 AT??? ... jk :D raresight indeed) mzspeed set it up large, cheers.

p.s. if you guys want a TO only space, y not just get this site's Admin to setup a TO forum?

looking forward to meeting up again soon.

Yes apaul's yellow was nice and it was the sharpest one out of the bunch... It doesn't really matter if the car is MT or AT, it's still a great car and we love to drive it every single minute, so we should not say anything more about this.

The meet was great and apaul was a very nice man. He came to the meet as he said he would since he was coming in from Oshawa, we can tell he really love to be in meets and meet new people and talk about our favorite toy. It would be a shame if he doesn't come to our meets anymore and IF we have a club going that he will not join.

just hope everyone is cool with this...

really looking forward to another meet...

for sure I will set something up before this year ends... It's October now... me thinking probably sometime end of November since in December people will be very busy with Christmas shopping ETC..

I will set a date later on

thanks

If we want to do a video shoot, we'll have to meet before the snow comes. We'll need about a half dozen RX-8's and about a few hours to horse around and get the shots.

for a name, here are a few of my suggestions:

RX8cluboftoronto.com
torontorotary8club.com
torontorx8club.com
RX8clubofhollywoodnorth.com

Apaul, your the writer here, I'm sure you have a few good suggestions!

apaul: Don't sweat the people who are jelous ;) BTW: if you see a red Rx-8 in Oshawa with a personalized plate and factory spoilers/crests then don't forget to wave.

Pretty sure I seen ya about a week ago heading up either Ritson or Wilson.

Wish I went but had things to do. Toronto Chapter, post a thread we will join ;) .

Apaul - I drive an automatic. Can I drive stick, sure. If people snub (I could never remember if it's with two b's or not), remember the following:

1) our torgue is higher.
2) we have F1 inspired paddle shifters (which, if anyone is truly insane...er...has the time to, can convert the AT to a Lamourguini trasmission like with paddle shifting) which are so much fun.
3) those who snub don't get "it" and we can only feel sorry for them.
4) He/She who points the finger will always have four pointing back at themselves.
5) Perhaps you can reactivate the Camp X for personal needs and snub those who offend, if you know what I mean ;) .

Looks like another sea of red :D Glad to see some more T-greys out there.

BTW how did the book promo go?

Thanks, hobbes (Wow, you have stuff there that I never thought of ) and ALL. Case closed. Done. Over:)

The book launch went v. well, thanks. Even though the weather at startup was foul, we had over 100 folks show. NO idea how many books we flogged..will know soon. ..right hand stiff from signing!! A good thing, as Martha would say. :)

The highlight, once again, was Robbie Cressman and his colleagues demonstrating their Defendo Special Forces Combat System .. I didn't volunteer to be a pigeon this time.. basically though, it's a non-lethal self-defense system. Courses offered. I'm including their link because they are so supportive of our Camp X series. .and they are superb..

I was thinking about it, Shamblerock.. X Men ( that would cover 7's and 8's)-- um, sexist.. non-inclusive .. copyright infringement. Lawsuits! Aaargh :( Nope.

Will give it some more serious thought..anyone else?

yes if anybody have more ideas on the name of our Toronto RX8 club, please let us know.. so we can decide and I can at least registered the domain first for the webpage.

Shamblerock's names are not bad...

apaul's name is cool but yes there is going to be copy right issues...

well any more ideas would be great.

As for the video, I guess we have to see who is interested in coming out and have that filmed. If it's going to be before winter then I guess these 2 to 3 weeks max...

I guess this could also be our next meet if anyone is interested in coming out again.

if not then I guess we will have to film the video next year which is not a rush.

But definately we will come out again before this year ends...

Shamblerock
10-04-2004, 04:46 PM
I'm easy either way. No rush like you said. In fact, it may give us more time to bring in more members and more ideas!

if not I think I will go with this name.

thanks apaul for the name.

And yes Shamblerock, by next year I hope there will be more people in the club and then we can do the video... thanks for helping...

and yes for sure, I will let you know when I need help and for sure help will be needed since it's going to take some time and effort, but I think it will be good for us Toronto RX8 enthusiast. So i hope everything will work out..

Dreamweaver, great program when you figure out how to use it, which I'm still doing. I suggest posting a thread up asking for a helping hand with the webstuff; there must be some web Jedi Masters on the forum. I can help out with some graphic duties; logos and such. I'm not an expert but willing to help out.

When all is set up, those with connections in the car side of things should talk and hopefully bring about discounts for all. (Ahh..no more calling for group buys...we can say club and be done with it.)

apaul - Glad to hear you have a good turnout. copyrights and so forth, well, your editor should be on the lookout for you, heck you agent should too. I would say, didn't know, I'm sorry, here I'll make a forward about in a reprint. Makes me think about the football movie Blues or something like that, where UT got them to state it had nothing to do with UT's football team...and people wonder where universities use their money?

I had a talk with a editor about my latest rejection. Yeah I know, who needs a letter when they can say it over the phone. Anyway, I PMed you about a possible writer's conference he's trying to put together. If anyone is interested in hearing more, PM me and I'll pass you the URL.

Jim: For what its worth, I'm going with Michelin Pilot Alpine pa2's 225/50/17 on cheap aluminum rims. Haven't decided which rims yet but there is Mississauga Tire saying that the RTX F120's 17X7 (can't find them anywhere on the web) work for the car and they are charging approx 150 per rim.

If you come across an alternative package or rims or tires let me know because I'm going to pull the trigger within a week or so.

Since nobody else have imputed anymore names for the club, I will great another thread to do a poll (never did one, hope I know how to) for the name of our new club.

thanks everyone for the contribution and I hope I can get this website etc started soon. I know there are alot of people willing to join and hope our club will grow.

Hybrid-RX8 - So where to get them winter shoes? I've got a quote from Avante at RX8:
$1798 + taxes
17? Aluminum Rims
17? Tires Yokohamas V901

Now seriously, I would prefer cheapo steel rims for my winter beaters. Any suggestions as to where to get them? I've seen your 8, don't tell me you're going to drive yours in winter  . What do you think of Green Bay Tires? BTW has anyone heard of (I'm a bit skep about this myself) that you need to lift the car in a certain way or you end up cracking the body when changing tires? I mean it sounds so out in left field, but me salesman told me that one (like I said skep), just want to know before I go get me rims n' rubbers for winter.

BTW sorry for doing this here, but since we're on the topic, I thought I would chime in ;) . Seriously, if this becomes a good topic, and I feel it will be, someone can start a tread to post prices and all (it's been done to death I know, but needed, yes.).

I've decided to go with the rims and tires below which I mentioned through Mississauga Tire. 1600 + tax = 1,840. NOTE: these 225/50/17 Michelin Pilot Alpines a2 are V rated tires with double reinforced side walls NOT H RATED OR LESS like some blizakks and Yokohamas. The rims are nothing special but there are aluminum 5 spoke shaped rim.

If anyone is interested in the same package I can let them know your coming and they could cut you the same deal or better.

Rotowheeee, they are "RTX F120" 17 X 7 with 40mm offset. Can't find a picture anywhere on the net. But did see some people say that they have/had RTX rims. I'll see them on Saturday morning on the car temporarily when I go to the shop. I'll only put them on come mid november.

I just got a quote from Westowne Mazda, Yokohama V901 with 17" Rims - 5 spoke for $375 per wheel - $1,500 plus tax. Any negatives on the Yokohama tires?

I used Tire Rack to do some homework and they don't even carry Yokohama but they carry everything else!?! So I don't know why they don't carry them and can't really comment. I read some other review on them and that person said they were outstanding. So I don't know.

If you find a reputable review or comparison showing the Yoko's are better, provide the link so we could all benefit.

Hybrid, I thought we made it clear: No Secrets!!! Tell us what your doing because I am very interested! Ideally I would like to have the blow by blow details. Open a new thread and call it " Hybrid's RX8 Modification project - Winter 05". I can tell you this, there are many people on this site that could give you some very good technical advice (certainly not me) and that may help you maximize on your investment when you have input from a variety of different minds!

Suprises are fun too if you want to keep it secret. As long as you tell us what you ended up doing! I hope you plans over the winter pay off. :)

Kart Racer, do you think its worth while buying the tpms sensors at $115 a pop? I'm not going to get the sensors if they cost almost as much as the rtx rims I'm getting this saturday. Already my rims and michelin pilot Aplines on the rtx rims is $1,840 tax, tip, out the door.

ohhhhh, so this entire time i've been worried about the TPMS, and we dont even have it??? are you sure? the manual says so doesnt it?

Shamblerock
10-13-2004, 09:13 PM
KART RACER: Yes we do have TPMS on our existing rims/valves and therefore the RX* knows when there is a problem. The Celica rims likely don't have the sensors and therefore you would probably have to go get them from Mazda. Alternatively, you can use the stock rims in the winter and buy 18" snow tires to match.

I think, as I read in many threads here.. RX8 in Canada doesn't come with TPMS. I think they stated we get the Headlight washers instead... not 100% sure though..

so everybody getting ready for winter??

uhmmm I guess we should get another meet going in early Nov so we can talk about our preparation for winter, Tires etc.... well I will start organizing one probalbly next week or the week after.. I will set a date..

anyways, I've been busy, so haven't started on getting our club webpage going yet... I hope I will have time this week to start and also I will see if we can just branch the forum part off this web site...or create my own.. will see.

Also, I know alot of people like the name rx8club.to but I still find that the price for the domain is too expensive therefore I am going to stick with the second choice... if everyone is ok with it.

so the club name will be rx8torclub.com

I will register this today.

let me know if you guys have any questions..

If anybody is interested, I was quoted by the service manager at a Mazda dealer in Toronto that he would give me 15% discount on extended warranty by Mazda. Still have to see it to beleive it because no other dealer would even give me a dollar off.

Therefore if you are interested let me know and I can try to improve that discount for a larger group of us. Eventually, if it is indeed true, I'll give you the contact details and give him your name so he expects you and gives you the discount as well. I will likely firm all this up withion the next few days.

In short, you basically pay the price of the extended warranty WITHOUT 15% OF TAX.

For your information, the prices quoted by Mazda are as follows and do not include tax, so this is the price you should expect to pay:

New vehicle Major Component

60 MONTHS / 100,000 KM $1,349.00
72 MONTHS / 120,000 KM $1,799.00
72 MONTHS / 160,000 KM $1,999.00
84 MONTHS / 160,000 KM $2,249.00

New Vehicle Comprehensive (covers everything your original 3 year 80K warranty covers)

36 MONTHS / 80,000 KM $359.00
42 MONTHS / 100,000 KM $459.00
48 MONTHS / 100,000 KM $550.00
60 MONTHS / 100,000 KM $1,499.00
72 MONTHS / 120,000 KM $2,099.00
72 MONTHS / 160,000 KM $2,349.00
84 MONTHS / 160,000 KM $2,549.00
