View Full Version : option packages
knihc2008 04-17-2003, 11:48 AM hey guys,
i'm new to this forum and i've been debating over a g35 coupe or an rx8, but it's been looking like an rx8 lately because of its superior value. i was looking at the website (mazdausa.com) and i'm confused by some of these option packages, i was wondering if some of you guys could help me out with them.
first of all, what's the rotary accent package? what polished rotary accents are they talking about?
for the appearance package, it says that it adds front air dam and flares. what flares are they talking about? i thought they already came with flares? i'm sooo confused with this one.
that's all. thanks in advance. i look forward to joining the rx8 community!
justin
ZoomZoom 04-17-2003, 12:00 PM First of all welcome to the forum!!!
The rx-8 has two rotary emblems (front & back), the emblems are polished when the rotary accent package is ordered. As for the appearance package, it just exaggerates the flares and air dam.
Hope that helps and keep on posting.
zoom44 04-17-2003, 12:04 PM check the pics in the accessories thread on this page (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3618&perpage=15&highlight=accessories&pagenumber=5) that should help you out.
Gord96BRG 04-17-2003, 12:46 PM The rotary accents are rotary symbols located in the centre bottom of the bumpers front and back. The 'flares' are side sills that cover the rocker panels between the wheels.
Regards,
Gordon

tripwire 04-17-2003, 02:48 PM yup yup ...
hey, has anyone heard anything specific on the mp3 player? i'm wondering if it's a mini-disc player of sorts. I've seen the picture of what I thought was the (mp3/mini-disc) player, but it doesn't look like it will take a standard CD. I guess if it is a mini-disc player I'll have to buy a burner of some sort.
zoom44 04-17-2003, 03:07 PM the mp3 player is a single slot cd/mp3 player. it goes in the upper area where you can have the standard single player or the single cd/mp3 player or the 6 disc changer. in the bottom slot you can have the tape player or the mini disc player or nothing.
tripwire 04-17-2003, 03:15 PM ok, so now I get it. and i face a conundrum...
I can't have the 6-CD Changer AND the CD/MP3 player at the same time obviously, right?
So if I wanted to burn mp3z I would have to either purchase the cd/mp3 player OR the mini-disc player right?
i'm not too familiar with mini-disc players, I *believe* I can burn mp3s onto them - then I have to have a burner of some sort and all... if anyone knows how many mp3s you can get on a mini-disc please let me know.
I would normally figure this stuff out after the fact, but the dealership will most likely rake me through the coals for installing a 6-CD Changer after I have the car so economically I should probably add the cd changer to my pre-order.
knihc2008 04-17-2003, 04:48 PM are the mp3 player and md player available as options in america? they seem like jpn-only parts, going with my past experiences with japanese cars. the people across the seas always get cooler options
justin
knihc2008 04-17-2003, 04:49 PM oh yeah and you can burn mp3's onto md's but you need to have a special md player in order to play that mp3-burned md, usually the md system that recorded that same md. i would go for the mp3-cd player.
knihc2008 04-17-2003, 04:51 PM wow thanks trip for that link. those are so awesome!

I would be surprised if the MP3 was not available at dealers in the U.S. But I know I haven't seen the MD unit listed on any U.S. accessory lists, and it might be something like the Miata stereo, where you have to order the MD unit from an importer instead.

jdj1971 04-18-2003, 02:19 PM If I'm not mistaken there's a MD player available for the 6. It's listed on the accessories list from mazdausa.

So I'd guess they'll probably have one fot the 8 as well.

tripwire 04-18-2003, 08:14 PM This from Mazda:
Thank you for again contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.
The specific installation information for the mini-disc player is not
yet available. As this item has not yet been officially released nor listed with specifications, it is not possible for this office to speculate at this time. I CAN confirm that it will be available as a dealer installed item, however, further details have yet to be finalized.
Please understand that with the Pre-Order Program, you have the unique postition of being one of the firsts to own the vehicle, placing the order before any RX-8 vehicles have been mass produced. However, as some developments will continue until the release of the vehicle (including those involving accessories) some information may not be readily available, may be under development, or may be subject to change, simply as a feature of these being pre-production decisions and processes.

that only goes for LP2 and LP4 right? which too should be ok tho cuz looking at the md slot specs for rx-8 on the japanese site, i believe it said LP2 and LP4 formats are also supported. i dunno what u.s. will have but...
i've recorded a lot of mp3's onto my md player, and if you record at normal it records 80 minutes (i guess that depends on the minidisc itself). on LP2 it records 160 minutes and LP4 will record 320 minutes.
knihc2008 04-19-2003, 07:32 PM lp2 and lp4 formats for when ripping analog. if you wanna rip digital (ie mp3's directly onto the md) then it's called (in sony speak) "net md," which i don't think is lp2/lp4 anymore. can someone confirm this?
