Well a few days ago my clutch disc threw one of its springs! It is stuck between the pressure plate and the disc. It will not fully depress to let the car go into gear. I just purchased a new disc for $129 and will install it this weekend. I will let you know the results. Also mazda warranty on the the clutch disc is 12000 miles so you kinda get screwed because it is not from abuse it is a defect. The new disc has stiffer springs in it so I hope it will hold up longer.
p.s. I have over 28000 miles on it.

Damn, 12k for the clutch disc! That insane. I have 25k and have smelt my clutch burn twice, and still expected at least 75k out of it. I guess I should start saving now for a new one.

A quick update! You can use a 3rd gen rx-7 disc on the 8. if you want to upgrade to a better disc. I would suggest a mcleod sprung hub semi 6 puck :p

I would suggest filing a complaint with the NHTSA as clutch failures are becoming pretty common and the NHTSA can force a recall/service bulletin from the manufacturer. Go to www.nhtsa.gov On the left the 8th item down is complaint form.
