View Full Version : Accessories available in Japan
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:24 PM TONS of Accessories and options available in Japan - why don't we get any of the good toys? I have about 66 images, I don't know how many I can upload at a time I'll upload some I thought were interesting. Ok I can only upload 1 at a time.
"RX-8 Embedded" shifter.
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:27 PM This is nifty too. Looks to me like it's remote keyless handsfree entry. Friend of mine has a Mercedes SL55 and he carries a card in his wallet - when he gets near the car, it unlocks his doors. he has just to push a start button when he gets in the car. pretty sweet.
Lensman 04-09-2003, 03:30 PM If it's a handsfree entry system why does it have lock/unlock buttons on the card?
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:35 PM My friend's has lock and unlock buttons on his as well with his Mercedes. he has to be near the car with the card in his pocket, he touches the car and it senses the card+touch and opens up the car.
I suppose if you are not within range of the car as you have to touch it (at least on the Mercedes version I've seen) to open the doors you can unlock and lock it without actually touching the vehicle.
Lensman 04-09-2003, 03:38 PM So in neither case is it 'hands free' then?!
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:42 PM yeah i guess it's hands "reqired", but you don't need a key to start the car (the mercedes version at least), so you'd most likely require the nifty illuminated start button! the mercedes start button is in the center of the shifter knob...
Lensman 04-09-2003, 03:43 PM Cute! :)
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:47 PM oh yeah, and I know some people were asking about the Rotary Accent Package...
RotorGeek 04-09-2003, 03:49 PM Keep posting the PICS!!!! I love the start button
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:51 PM ok, I'll keep posting... some of this stuff I don't know what exactly it is, so you'll have to make deductions on your own, and I haven't found a way to get all of these images into one image, so forgive me if I'm posting like crazy, but this is just cool stuff...
DVD Player
tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:52 PM Electronic Vehicle Jack - I'd love to have one of these for my Ford Explorer - I was cranking for like an hour to get that bad boy off the ground....

tripwire 04-09-2003, 03:54 PM Electronic Toll Collection - don't suppose this applies over here in the states

RotorGeek 04-09-2003, 04:00 PM It would be cool if the number would glow brighter when you were in the gear.

tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:15 PM Mazda Speed Accessories/Options...
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:19 PM Cargo Net, cargo mat, baby seat, rx-8 license plate, some little gadget for the glove box, magic rust-away spray...
Gamera 04-09-2003, 04:22 PM Thanks TripWire! Much faster than clicking through all those drop menus. Keep'em coming.
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:23 PM Rear Exhaust, some little RX-8 Emblem thing for the back doors (maybe a magnet to hold the seat belt down ????
emergency brake cover, kick plate, spare tire kit
zoom44 04-09-2003, 04:24 PM what are these things?
Lensman 04-09-2003, 04:25 PM trying to combine some of these images in Painshop
There's a nice Freudian slip! ;)
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:26 PM Silver Rearview mirror, some little electronic thing I'm not sure of, side view "mazdaspeed" mirror, "rotary" tire valve covers, "rotary" cellphone strap maybe???
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:30 PM Standard (non-backlight) leather wrapped shifter knob, wood-grained door console, I don't know what the red thing is ???
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:34 PM Final post - promise...
"RX-8" rear window sun deflector, traditional key fob, remote engine start unit, some strange remote controller embedded in the automatic ???
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:39 PM Yeah Gamera, the drop-downs were a mess. I figured I'm off today so I had nothing better to do than try to navigate the Japanese mazda site. It proved to be quite fruitful.
Wish I understood what some of that stuff was though. Like zoom44 was asking about that strange looking device.
And I'm hoping we can get that suff in the states. I'm digging the led-shifter & the led-start button, and the slim door unlocker and the rotary keys & valve covers and it seems as though my wish list goes on and on... we'll have to wait and see what will be available.
Are those shift-paddles on the steering wheel? Those aren't standard on the slush-box are they?
rxeightr 04-09-2003, 04:45 PM Trip, great find! I gotta believe most of these items will find their way to America & Europe.
After all, Mazda believes half of their 1st year sales will be coming from us Americans.
tripwire 04-09-2003, 04:46 PM forgot one. This was labled as "HDD" I imagine that's for Hard Disk Drive. not really sure, anyhow it has more buttons on it...

yes they are
santino 04-09-2003, 04:54 PM i love the rear sun deflector and chrome stuff....those rotary valve stem covers are just waiting to be stolen though. i ended up buying 5 sets of chrome valve covers for my car, before i just gave up and left stems "naked".
thanks for all the pics by the way

Most likely there to prevent the rear door from scratching up the front door in case the front doors were closed before the rear doors.
Smoker 04-09-2003, 05:00 PM The toy to HAVE is still the Rotary Key, I think. So Sweet.
The Coloured Rear view mirrors are also very nice, depends on which exterior colour you have chosen.
Titanium Grey 04-09-2003, 05:00 PM The two pads joined by wire might be static electricity release pads (have them on the MX-6 and they were on the MX-3). You touch them before you get out of the car and they prevent you getting those occasional static shocks from the body work.
The small black platic dots on the body i believe may be parking sensors as they seem to be mounted on the bumpers.
The first in dash screen looks like it is Mazda's new 3D navigation system rather than a DVD player.
The second in dash screen one looks like an even more advanced version.
Any body know anything about the replacement spring and damper sets.
Must haves for me, LED Gear knob, Vent Fins, Rotary Accent Package, Chrome Rearview Mirror, Chrome Exahust Trims and Remote Start might be fun.

Come to think of it, does anyone ever actually need to read the gearknob to know where the next gear is?
Personally, I'd go for the rotor-shaped knob instead.

tripwire 04-09-2003, 05:59 PM I think the led gear shifter is simply "cool factor" it adds to the mystique of the RX-8 in my opinion. The interior is so unique I feel the lighted shifter just adds to the ambiance of the cockpit.
I'll actually be looking at the shifter quite a bit considering the reverse position is in the opposite position of my current reverse position :)
And I'm getting a red interior, it just fits.
then again, it's going to come down to cost i'm sure. it would make a great stocking stuffer.
zoom44 04-09-2003, 06:30 PM trip- i've been all over the japanese site for about a half an hour where is the page where you got these pics? or are these scans from a hard copy?
tripwire 04-09-2003, 06:47 PM It's a nightmare navigating when you can't read Japanese

I think HDD means "High Definition Display". I wonder if you can have one of these puppies retro-fitted if you didn't take the Nav option?
RotorGeek 04-09-2003, 09:26 PM I really want to know where the Start button is placed. If it goes where the key is located where will the key go.
The led shifter is also a must have.
pmacwill 04-09-2003, 09:47 PM and then my rx8 cost $70,000.00
oh well, most of them are a must!
tripwire 04-09-2003, 10:12 PM yeah, it looks like there was an indent for the original start button before it was scrapped, however it doesn't look like it will fit in that left side of the dash anymore. i wonder what all it entails as far as wiring is concerned. I'm assuming they will "disable" the "start engine" portion of the key.
jonalan 04-10-2003, 11:20 AM Interesting...speaking of the LED shift knob. I thought the Japanese models only came with a 5-speed?

zoom44, since you're checking out the japanese site, I figured you might be interested in this little translation site I ran across: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html
just click "traslate words in Japanese Text" and it works really well. I figured out that picture with the wires was indeed an electrostatic discharge kit such as someone had previously suggested. anyhow, if you copy and past from the mazda.co.jp site into that webpage, it helps put english descriptions to some of the pictures out there...

Yes. you are right. The map data is stored in Hard Disk Drive.
This is one of dealer options in Japan.

zoom44 04-10-2003, 06:30 PM much thanks trip!
Cruising Rolla 04-11-2003, 12:35 AM That's a one way to boost tourism in Japan....... I visited Japan for it's Auto Saloon, Race Queens and auto-marts..........:D :D :D
hikoboy 04-16-2003, 05:42 PM acc to the site the start button replaces the coin compartment next to the steering wheel.
zoom44 04-17-2003, 03:02 PM i missd this the other day in trips post. the strakes are available in japanhttp://www.rx-8.mazda.co.jp/soption/F152V4300.JPG
hopefully that means they will become available here soon.
pmacwill 04-17-2003, 03:41 PM for any of you dealer forum members, or anyone with more experience buying aftermarket for cars, how difficult, if at all possible, will it be to order add-ons available in japan if they aren't offered in the US.
I am planning on asking Brown Mazda in Fairfax when I go down there if they have any experience with this. They seem to do a lot of mods to vehicles above and beyond mazda accessories, so I figure they might be able to get the parts from japan, and hopefully without too much of a markup.
I really want the strakes, LED shifter, startbutton, keyless handless entry, colored (red) middle compartment covers, red rearview mirror, rear foglamp, boot spoiler and maybe a few other things I can't think of now. I just don't want to have to pay $10,000 for the options I want.

Super-easy.
If you can get the part number, your dealer should be able to order it.
If not, you can use corksport.com.
3Rotor 04-18-2003, 12:37 AM It is not true that if you simply have a Mazda part number that your local Dealer can order it. Some parts managers are great, understand the rotary enthusiast, and are willing to help, I happen to know one who isn't even in my state! Most others act like they are former government employees or civil servants and are unwilling to lift a finger if they have to actually do some work (my local dealership, as an example). Case in point, I own a very rare (by U.S. standards) Mazda. I have all of the manuals and when I need basic parts, despite the fact that I have valid, Mazda part numbers, I get stares of bewilderment. Mazda NA is not Mazda Japan. They have to go through a "middleman." It can be done, but for a dealer to help you, they have to feel there is something in it for them - this is a relationship building process. You really are better off going through a place like CorkSport if you don't have any good contacts. Sorry for the rant...

Shitty comment. I'm sure there are plenty of Government Workers or Civil Servants on this forum that are just that "Servants" and/or "Workers". Lazy employees are everywhere just visit any Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Restaraunt, and even your local Mazda Dealer.
