View Full Version : Shell V-Power in California?
310Guy 08-23-2004, 11:32 PM I've been reading about this "miracle" gas in some threads (improving gas mileage).
Is this stuff even available in California? I only ask because we've got some f-ed up "regulations" in this state.
Admittedly, I haven't look specifically at Shell stations to see if it's available.
BTW, has anyone tried this fuel? Thanks.
ivyrose 08-23-2004, 11:43 PM Yeah it's available (at least in the Bay Area/Northern CA) but I've never tried it myself. I've used Shell's 87 from day one and haven't had a problem so I doubt I'll be switching anytime soon.
Started using it a while back. Been getting around 18mpg regardless of how much I redline the sucker.. Used some chevron in between and I tanked to about 16mpg. Needless to say I'm back to the Shell..
310Guy 08-23-2004, 11:52 PM Wow, that much of an improvement?
What does it run (co$t) per gallon?
sup3rbad 08-23-2004, 11:53 PM Hmm I've used both Chevron and Shell with V-Power... and needless to say I get about the same MPG with either one.
I wouldn't call my results scientific fact, might have been in traffic more with the chevron. But the shell near my place is way cheaper than anything else. 2.20/gallon I believe.
djantlive 08-24-2004, 01:30 AM no difference in mpg on the v power. it is probly mostly marketing...
310Guy 08-24-2004, 09:44 AM Well, I'd take any improvement in my gas mileage.
On my next tank I'll give V-Power a try.
samsonite1 08-24-2004, 10:24 AM Guys,
it's not a "special" gas. The name "V-power" is the name title for the old "super unleaded"
scratchjunkie 08-24-2004, 10:48 AM v-power is a marketing ploy. i would stay far away from shell as possible. better gas would be chevron and 76.
samsonite1 08-25-2004, 08:59 AM I think the best gas, in order, are
BP (British Petroleum - real name, Beyond Petroleum - in US) 98 - 94 - 92 - 90
Chevron 91 - 89 - 87
76 91 - 89 - 87
Shell 91 - 89 - 87
Mobile 91 - 89 - 87
Arco 91 - 89 - 87
310Guy 08-25-2004, 10:17 AM Are there even BP stations in So. Cal???
samsonite1 08-25-2004, 11:23 AM A couple. They are mainly up north and in other states.
They are moving south.........slowly.
DrComputer 08-28-2004, 02:41 AM Arco is BP in California. When BP bought Arco they kept the name since it was a well known trademark in California.
rx8spiritR 08-28-2004, 05:12 AM what the hell? so does BP have water in their gas like Arco does?
rx8spiritR 08-28-2004, 05:16 AM BP is 76, the owner of 19th Ave 76 told me that in person , his name is Joel, he's very pouplar in the senior community of sunset distrit. in case anyone who wants to know who he is, you can catch him on cable, they always have ads there.
brothervoodoo 08-28-2004, 05:20 AM "not any BP, 19th Avenue BP......." ;)
breezy_rx8 09-08-2004, 11:04 PM There's a 76 station on Almaden and Foxworthy in San Jose that I hear has 100 octane! I haven't filled up yet though, my pal said it costs some $4.50/gallon
