View Full Version : 2005 Ford GT (40)
Gamera 03-25-2003, 04:49 PM GT(40) out testing in Los Angeles (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/article.asp?storyId=6478)
Ford really needs this car, it will help their image immensely. I like the design, but I hope it gets updated just a little, from these prototypes it looks virtually identical to the '67 LeMans car.
RotaryXTypeSH 03-25-2003, 05:11 PM does it have anything to do with RX8? Mazda? Rotary?? y did u post this then?

Uh, forum topic: General Automotive
It is not as far off-topic as you think. Ford is in financial doldrums, talks of bankruptcy have floated in the past few months. Ford is the largest shareholder of Mazda (about 1/3), so basically Ford controls Mazda. Introduction of a Ford-badged supercar and re-entry to competitive racing may cost in the short run, but would only help improve Fords image among automobile enthusiasts in the long run (sorry the T-Bird doesn't make the cut). A healthy Ford is good for Mazda.
RotaryXTypeSH, seriously dude, you need to slow down. You joined just 4 days ago, posted 70 msgs since, "borrowed" someones Avatar (a customized one at that!), and now you're playing moderator. Don't you have some homework to do? :)
GodWhomIsMike 03-25-2003, 07:06 PM The Ford GT leaves me speechless, I honestly like it better than the Ferrari 360 Moderna. Hopefully one of these days I'll win lotto, maybe one day.
Spining Ncnratr 03-25-2003, 07:14 PM Its about 6 inches longer 45 inches tall from ground And I think 2 inches wider than original. The suspesion is all new and the Engine is going into the new Lightning in 05-06. Ford is far from being dead just got a little tangeled up in red tape for the moment.;)
RotaryXTypeSH 03-25-2003, 08:03 PM OoOo....sry
wakeech 03-25-2003, 08:37 PM RotaryXTypeSH... 18.54 posts/day!!!!
wow :D you'll be way past me, zoomdawg, and Herc in no time ;)
bwayout 03-25-2003, 09:23 PM ... and don't think that I'm only answering this post to raise my post count ...
:D
Because, I've always loved the GT40 ... way back when (mid 60's) I use to own 2 - "matchbox" versions that is ...
I'm also a fan ot the FORD GT90, but I don't think that will ever see production ...
:(
Schneegz 03-29-2003, 11:27 AM Ford NEEDS to race this car at LeMans and win! Just for old times sake!
The only sad part is that there is already a Ford-powered American supercar. The Saleen S7. I would rather see Ford build an affordable sports car; something light and nimble, and much more modern than the Mustang. But I guess that would cut into sales of the RX-8 and Miata, so it probably won't happen.
Supercharger 05-20-2003, 06:35 PM Check out the Ford GT article in the June issue Popular Science (p.78).

360 Modena is beeeauuuutttiiiifullllll :)
Schneegz 05-20-2003, 09:14 PM I really hope Ford races this car in LeMans and repeats the GT40's success from the 60s. I'd also like to see the Corvette C6, the new Viper and the Saleen S7 all go head-to-head at LeMans.
The car I think Ford really needs is a light, sporty, RWD with great handling. Something like the Miata, but with balls. Maybe with a really small V-6, like a 2.4L, so it can rev like crazy. NO borrowing the Renesis, however. Not allowed! NO WAY!
dying_here 05-20-2003, 10:14 PM i read about this car in the popular science, pretty nice, slightly faster than the Modena and might be as fast as the Viper itself
price tag is going to be around 150k
joofntool 05-21-2003, 10:45 AM whats the MSRP and # of units slated for production?
Spining Ncnratr 05-21-2003, 07:49 PM About 1000 a year except this year (2003) which is 3 for the 1,2,3 finish at Lemans 66 and right around $135,000 by what Ford has said.

Since it costs at least 50% more than the Viper, I sincerely hope it ends up being faster. Of course, even if it isn't it will be so ridiculously fast that only a fanatic could complain.
