are you an owner or just a club member (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Just a club member, took the test drive in Billings, but my turbo FC is so much faster I couldn't justify the extra $600 a month in payments and insurance for an RX-8.

Maybe when they boost the HP, or the turbo kits are ready...

I already have a need for a back seat, but you can get a back seat for an FC, only a kid will fit onto it, but that is all I need it for.

Omicron
06-25-2004, 02:42 PM
You can? Huh... I didn't know that.

Sputnik

You betcha! But like Nucleus said, only a kid will really fit into it. So if you don't need them for kids, then you are better off having the storage bins.

You can get a rear seat for an FD too, but it has to come from Japan.

I actually prefer the rear seat over the bins for the FC because you can put a backpack in the rear seat and it stays in place. With the bins it slides around everywhere, as you corner and so on.

My base '86 didn't even have the storage bins back there. But it makes an excellent location for subs :).

Leave my wife out of this.....oh you mean a second car to use during inclemate weather. All kidding aside I bougth the car knowing i will be moving to NV. As for winter I drove it in a little bit of snow...not so good. but from what folks tell me winter tires make a world of difference. search for some winter driving thread to find out more. I am willing to answer anything else however.

I haven't seen a black one around, but I see a red one frequently so I think it's from around here. These cars look much shorter/higher/bulkier in person than they do in photos, which was weird to see...

Hey, our winters here where I live in Colorado are generally pretty mild... sunny and georgeous about 80% of the time, 15% of the time snow that melts within a day or two, and 5% freakin blizzards. ;)

Whatever you had for Winter in Montana is matched only by the summers you will have in Vegas. It is the only place I've been where gloves in the summer were necessary to work on airplanes or cars. Both can get damn hot if you leave them outside. Okay so the plane had a garage and the car didn't, but you will get my point next summer.

And whatever you do don't leave any tools out in the sun.....never do that! Unless of course you have the gloves on.....

Enjoy Vegas.....

Berni
10-09-2004, 10:47 AM
I know it will be much hotter but growing up in Florida I have some idea of how life will be in the heat. the whole snow, ice, never ending winds, and weeks below neg 20. gave me a misery that can not be matched. at the time i had to work outdoors.

Kewl

Berni,

Don't get me wrong, Vegas heat is far better than winter anything, anywhere. I to grew up in Florida (Daytona) so I know heat, but this is dry heat....much better! We have a dry heat here in Albuquerque as well, but we're lucky (or unlucky) to see to 100 at all during the summer. An advantage to being at 5000 feet. I don't think I could like in Florida again. Visit is OK however. You at Nellis?

I am a RX8 Owner Originally from Missoula Montana where there is a handful of RX8's primarily owned by people higher in age. as is in most of the state and across the country. I am currently in Great Falls Montana where there are a few RX8's around. heard of one on malstrom afb that is sponsored for some nice upgrades. not sure if it is true or not I haven't seen it. they all seem to be basic. I believe I am the youngest in the area to be an owner. and mine was custom order from japan hurting me at $56k but it was worth every penny. I haven't had the finances since to upgrade. but look to hopefully sometime soon.

but yes rx8 owners are around. and montana is a great state for them. I have traveled with mine everywhere from seattle to oregon through washington idaho north dakota south dakota ohio all the way to nashville ordered it out of kentucky originally had it up in michigan for a few months and in Minnesota too. dispite the lower fuel rating of usually only 91 in montana. the dry air and moderate elevation actually leaves room for a lot of play. I have had days where my car jets off on a long straight road easily up into 130's plus before I let off the throttle. but then on other days of changing weather 110 to 120 only feels comfortable. all said and done though. montana is a sweet state to have any car that you plan on having a little fun in. with all the open roads straight and windy. and on top of that much much smaller speeding fines than in most states.

I am in montana and have wanted more montana forums. I have yet to talk to a rx8 owner in montana under 40.

well, I am an rx8 owner that has just recently moved to Missoula from the OC in SoCal. I'm attending the University of Montana right now but I don't have my 8 since I didn't want to risk ruining it at first snow. I'd like to see if there are other 8s in the Missoula area.

I am an RX-8 owner near Billings, and I am 27. I've had the car for 18 months, and am selling it due to the abysmal service at Bob Smith Lincoln Mercury Mitsubishi Mazda in Billings. I could go for PAGES on their incompetance and poor customer service. If you live near Missoula and can go to Flanagan's, thank your lucky stars that you don't have to deal with the stupids here.

I have an '04 6MT Velocity Red Sport. It's a BLAST - and I get sooooo many looks in it! I pretend they're looking at me and not the car

I drove mine every day this last winter - which was the most icy-road-filled winter I can remember in Montana (I've lived here since I was 3). I went off the road once, and spun 180 degrees once. I was going about 20 mph both times, as it was PURE ice, so nothing got hurt but my pride either time. :icon_no2: I put new Bridgestone Blizzaks on it about a month into winter, and had nary a problem after that.

Montana is one the best states to own an RX-8.... just for the Gallatin Canyon and the Beartooth Pass alone. Wheeeeeeeee....................! I've lived a few other places, but MT is home.

Anyone wants to buy I'm listed in the classifieds - give me a holler! Really wanting to sell, as I've already bought a replacement.

Lately Great Falls has had a influx of RX8's a couple of grey ones. a few in the military. multiple red ones. one, many are only automatics as I have seen including all of the rx8's currently for sale at car dealerships. taylor motors sold two in the past month and has a white one still. some day when more rx8 owners in mt get on this site we will have to do a rx8 meet.

RX-8 meet in great falls will be at the expo park on sept. 20th

the first montana area rx-8 meet will be held at the expo park on sept 20th I great falls.

there will be an autoX meet going on there with plenty of sports cars.

if you wish to participate in the autoX be there 7-9am

the rx8 meet will be 12pm - 6pm

bring your girls liquids and be ready to meet some other rotory owners and watch some great autoX racing.

if you have questions about the AutoX meet it'd be best to ask Dogeater he knows more than I.

lets hope his brake pads hold up this weekend.

all visitors most likely will have to check in to sign a waiver for being at the races.

see everyone there. should be fun I invited some rx7 owners too.

No, Nick won't be there, he's done with autox (I'm supose to be also, but I still have R compounds to use up). We are going to do more track days. We(swmtscca) are going to start SCCA pdx track days in Helena and possibly lewistown next year. He has that car set up really well. He wasn't even using the 300hp/300tq (to the wheels) tune. I am thinking about getting an 06-07 rx8. how do they hold up when it's below zero. or what could i put on it to get it to hold up for winter. i have no garage and live in belgrade. i know blizzaks are highly recommended, anything else besides tires?

Kaiser bun
11-16-2009, 10:49 PM
im not from montana but i should be able to help, last winter there were tons of days where it was twenty below and my eight "which is not garaged either" started right up everytime. My advice would be to let it warm up completely before taking it anywhere when its that cold, and yes tires are a good idea as well "didnt have myn last winter and i regretted it" but ya i have them on now so i guess we will see. good luck, nice to see more eights popping up north here :)

hey man i am going on my third winter here in great falls with my eight and i have never had a problem starting it up. i too have no garage. as said already, let it warm up before taking off and if you dont have time to let it warm up then dont redline it or anything crazy until it warms up. also do not ever start it up and shut it right off...i dont care what the problem is...let it warm up or drive it around the block and then shut it off or you will surely flood the engine....flooded engine+ -30 degree weather= pain in the cold cold ass. the only other advice i got for you is tires tires tires tires..or you will be sh*t out of luck

If it was JUST snow, I'd probably drive it, but they use tons of salt on the roads here. It eats cars alive.

Announcement of the third annual Las Vegas "What Happens In Las Vegas" Meet. This event is open to all rotary vehicles (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=190608&page=16#)

Date of the meet: June 18th and 19th, 2010

Friday evening gathering: In & Out Burgers on West Sahara

Friday evening party: When we leave the In & Out burger, we will caravan to "Las Vegas Mini (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=190608&page=16#) Gran Prix (outdoor track) where we can ride the carts by the hour ($18.00 per hour) and a no host bar at Chili's restaurant bar.

Saturday drive meet point: In & Out Burgers on West Sahara 10am

Saturday evening party: Hoffbrahause , Las Vegas, 7pm

Rooms will be available at discounted rates thru @!!narotordo

For the ones that want to stay off the strip: I just confirmed I can do coned off parkinghttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=190608&page=16#)!
You will not lose your spot unless another 8 takes the spot lol
How it works: Cone in spot. Remove cone and park. Place cone behind car (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=190608&page=16#). When you leave the spot place a cone there so no one piston takes your spot.
Our back lot is now walled in by a 10' brick wall with tons of light and the security guard is a ex RX-8http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=190608&page=16#) owner. PM me for room info

Congrats!

Yeah, i bought the one up at King Motors on 10th in GF. They wanted 14,9 for it, talked them down to 13,6 and they mis priced it online at 10,6. So I got it at 10,6. I kinda weaseled them out of it.

I know 1st liberty on 10th had a yellow one that was pretty bad-ass and modified. It was nice when i test drove it. Has the navigation and an exhaust system. It backfired though. They're asking anywhere from 10K to 12K since its a repo they take bids.

Another thing is theres a dealership in Houston, TX that sells RX8's for like 10K on ebay. Tickets to Houston are only 180$. You could fly down and drive up if your interested.

I only have summer tires on my car so I can't drive it at the moment. I'm hoping to get snow tires on the rears (atleast) sometime this week, we'll see. But yeah if you wanna take a look you can just PM me and i'll give you my cell #.

What year do you have digi? and what years are you looking at reps?

I'm looking at 05-07's. The biggest thing for me is it has to be white (which I've found is near impossible to find) and a manual tranny. I'd like it without a sunroof since I'm a tall guy and I can use all the head room I can get. But most of the other options are negotiable.

I flew down to New Mexico and drove back my wife's Forester XT, so if I can find one for 10 or 11K I'll snatch it up.

I have a 2004 w/ 64K miles on it. Feels like the Coils/Plugs may need to be replaced but to be honest it drives like a champ. I even have a carfax with maintenance records =).

TBH, i'm 6"4 and I thought the sunroof would be an issue. But it really isn't for me. I have the seat set just right that its VERY comfortable to drive and I still have a couple centimeters before I hit the liner. I just drive with the sunroof cover open all the time and I have all the room I need.

That 8 in the link looks beautiful and its not a bad price at all. It looks to be a touring so you'd have sunroof and HID Headlights. No leather, auto seats, or the auto dimming mirror. (all of which isnt really important lol)

edit: just noticed aftermarket intake, cant really tell what kind since the pics are pretty blurry. I would def check and make sure the dealer didnt enter the intake in their system, because if it were ever to have engine problems mazda could deny a new engine due to aftermarket parts.

That's good to know. Thanx. I'd still love to have one without though. Part of my build plan is to have a stripe over the top, and I'd like to not have it interupted by the whole in the roof.

But even still, if I found a car that was perfect but had a sunroof, I'd probably still pick it up.

Did the tint suck and did it have a exhaust. A bank up here in Great Falls, MT was selling one with crappy tint and an exhaust. I test drove it but instead ended up with a red one. Apparently the one i'm referring too was a repo; nice mods too! Exhaust, Intake, Amp, Sub, had some tint. Went for around 11,000$

I'm in Missoula and will be bringing back a 2005 Winning Blue RX-8 from NJ this next week. It's pretty sweet, with GT package and lambo doors.

I've seen maybe two or three other RX-8s around Missoula, a silver one that I see a lot but was on Craigslist about a month ago so not sure if it's still here, and the other random one here and there.

Congrats!, no one really posts from the area (as I'm sure you can see from the date of this thread) but you should defiantly enjoy an 8 up there.. if you're gonna drive it in the winter I would recommend picking up some winter tires though.

Thanks :) I did notice it's been dead for a while but I've been reading through miscellaneous posts around the forums and figured I'd drop in and say hi. Winter tires will definitely be in order, though we've had maybe two weeks of sticking snow this year which is weird.

I assume you're in Fargo - we'll be driving back from NJ starting on Wednesday, so I'd guess we'll be through your neck of the woods Friday afternoon/night. If you've got any recommendations for lunch/dinner there I'd probably take them!
