Montana--sound off

I know there are atleast three black (brand new), red and my Yellow one in great falls.

Omicron 06-14-2004 02:08 PM

Hey Berni! I knew we'd get someone here from Montana sooner or later!! Welcome! :D

nucleus 06-15-2004 12:02 AM

I saw a blue one drive by with local plates in Bozeman today...

Berni 06-15-2004 08:15 AM

are you an owner or just a club member (not that there's anything wrong with that)

nucleus 06-15-2004 09:46 PM

Just a club member, took the test drive in Billings, but my turbo FC is so much faster I couldn't justify the extra $600 a month in payments and insurance for an RX-8.

Maybe when they boost the HP, or the turbo kits are ready...

Or when you have need for a back seat. :D

nucleus 06-25-2004 08:10 AM

I already have a need for a back seat, but you can get a back seat for an FC, only a kid will fit onto it, but that is all I need it for.

Omicron 06-25-2004 01:42 PM

You can? Huh... I didn't know that.

Sputnik 06-25-2004 01:55 PM

You betcha! But like Nucleus said, only a kid will really fit into it. So if you don't need them for kids, then you are better off having the storage bins.

You can get a rear seat for an FD too, but it has to come from Japan.

I actually prefer the rear seat over the bins for the FC because you can put a backpack in the rear seat and it stays in place. With the bins it slides around everywhere, as you corner and so on.

Now, I did NOT know that. I was also surprized to find out a few months ago that the mid-'90s 300ZX could also have a back seat. Very very rare, but there it was.

And it would be much easier to toss it back there than opening up the bins and lifting it in.

My base '86 didn't even have the storage bins back there. But it makes an excellent location for subs :).

Ah well, I can understand that. You know anyone else up there with an '8 (or thinking of one) who might want to get involved? Thanks...

speculative 08-24-2004 12:06 PM

How does the 8 treat you in Montana? Do you drive it in winter or have a beater?

Berni 08-24-2004 05:42 PM

Leave my wife out of this.....oh you mean a second car to use during inclemate weather. All kidding aside I bougth the car knowing i will be moving to NV. As for winter I drove it in a little bit of snow...not so good. but from what folks tell me winter tires make a world of difference. search for some winter driving thread to find out more. I am willing to answer anything else however.

bassik277 08-24-2004 11:13 PM

I visited Montana for the first time in late July, I spotted a black 8 in bozeman when I was leaving the airport.

I haven't seen a black one around, but I see a red one frequently so I think it's from around here. These cars look much shorter/higher/bulkier in person than they do in photos, which was weird to see...

speculative 09-02-2004 03:35 PM

Saw a black 8 parked in the MSU lot yesterday night. Dang! First time I'd seen a parked one up close. I really like the body styling on the 8's...

Berni 09-03-2004 06:08 PM

6 more days until the yellow one leaves.

Omicron 10-02-2004 12:55 PM

Drag, Berni. So is anyone else around with an RX-8 in Montana?

Berni 10-02-2004 05:44 PM

I know of no one else. and now I am in vegas. sorry to leave the MT region...what the hell am I talking about no i am not i love it here. Enjoy your winters.

Omicron 10-08-2004 10:37 AM

Hey, our winters here where I live in Colorado are generally pretty mild... sunny and georgeous about 80% of the time, 15% of the time snow that melts within a day or two, and 5% freakin blizzards. ;)

Kewl 10-08-2004 05:21 PM

Whatever you had for Winter in Montana is matched only by the summers you will have in Vegas. It is the only place I've been where gloves in the summer were necessary to work on airplanes or cars. Both can get damn hot if you leave them outside. Okay so the plane had a garage and the car didn't, but you will get my point next summer.

And whatever you do don't leave any tools out in the sun.....never do that! Unless of course you have the gloves on.....

Enjoy Vegas.....

Berni 10-09-2004 09:47 AM

I know it will be much hotter but growing up in Florida I have some idea of how life will be in the heat. the whole snow, ice, never ending winds, and weeks below neg 20. gave me a misery that can not be matched. at the time i had to work outdoors.
