Yes it is the RX-EVole. The main reason we are not getting it is cost.

I like that hood better too. It's probably less usefull, but dang it's cool factor is much higher.

I'm sure cost and complexity were both factors in nixing that hood. I've also heard that insurance companies were mandating a departure from that type of hood because of the decapitation hazzard in a direct front-end collision. I haven't heard any real-life stories of that actually happening though. I do know that the new Viper has abandoned that type of hood as well, which could support that theory.

The RX-EVOL was the concept to the production RX-8

That's crazy, the hood on my shorty's 89 BMW 5-series opens like that, that evolv is so hot, so it 's just a concept car def. not for sale?

i've always thought that that hood would in fact be more useful. since the engine is so far back and down i think this style hood would ease acces when working in the engine bay. the regular hood might be confining as you are probably going to be working close to the lowest part of the hood when it is open.

correct, it is the original concept that the production rx-8 derived from.

Definetly the cost. If you look carefully you see it is actually two hoods. The main clamshell hood and a smaller one covering the actual engine. It would have been damn cool though.

I found this pic from while back. It gives you a better idea of what I am talking about.

the reason is cost as the others have said, but it is REPAIR cost. the Viper's clam shell hood was ditched because the entire thing had to be replaced from even the slightest damage. Same thing for the 8, i am assuming.

but you know when when you "ASSUME"...from the Bad News Bears movie.
